This can be any number of things from bad spark plugs to catalytic converter, crank or cam sensors to map sensor. Have it scanned, find out what code is stored and that will tell you the problem.

reset the ecu and it will start do this by disconnecting the battery and unplug the ecu and wait an half hour so the ecu can discharge then reconnect and it should start what you may find the the car has a service limit ie so many miles before service after that it goes in to limp mode and then all stop. its an old trick but it does work.

If it flasehes when you turn the ignition on, and continues to flash, then i know on my astra, this is the immobilizer kicking in. Try a different key. if not, see your local garage

if the light is flashing then the system is not finding the "chip" in the key, has the key been dropped and broken recently, is it a new key? if it has broken recently then look for what looks like a chip of dark coloured stone and refit into key if you cannot find this then a main dealer should keep them on the shelf, but you will need the vehicle security number.

As said above, a flashing "engine management light" during cranking means the immobilizer system in the car does not recognise the immobilizer chip in the key, or does not detect a chip at all. The chip is about 5mm long, 3 wide, and 2 deep. In other words "Freaking Tiny". It's very common for them to fall out of the key if dropped, or when the key is opened to change the bulb/battery in the "torch".

It's also possible that there has been a failure in either the Fuel injection system, or in the Immobiliser system, but it's more common for the chips to fall out of the keys, as the chips are so small, most people don't notice them on the ground when they drop the keys.

Depends on the problem, it could mean anything from a new spark plug to needing a new cylinder head and anything inbetween.

If your check engine light is blinking that means a cylinder misfire has been detected

Drive in a moderate fashion ( no fast acceleration / decelleration ) and have the

vehicle scanned for any trouble code(s) to diagnose and repair the problem

"EVAP emission system - very small leak

Probable cause

1. Faulty fuel cap

2. Leakage in emission system

3. Faulty vent solenoid

It means "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)" What that means is a tiny leak in the fuel evap system, most likely the gas cap. Remove and reinstall the gas cap (past the clicks) and clear the code. If the code comes right back, check the hoses leading to the charcoal canister near the gas tank under the truck for wear. My '99 Durango throws this code about twice a year, I just clear it and it's good to go for about 6 months. This code will never affect the drivability of the truck, It's just there for pollution purposes, like most OBD-II codes. Good Luck! When the hold light is flashing, it means there is a problem with the transmission system. The problem can be various things including the transmission is locked in a gear and can be caused by overheating or a speed sensor problem.

Turn on the ignition but do not start the car, press the button on the end of the wiper arm until the "miles to next service" is displayed on the odometer. Then press and hold the trip reset button until the display resets to 18000. This should also turn out the service and stop light. Turn off the ignition then restart the car.

If your car has serv (amber ) and stop (red) lights showing it could the immobiliser.

My 1996 Laguna lights come on and car won't start. Car needs to be started within a certain time period of doors being unlocked.

Using key lock all doors then re-open this should reset system.

Oxygen Sensor There are actually (4) O2 sensors on your truck. If you look inside the wheel wells behind the fender liner, right about where the frame is one O2 sensor, the other is underneath the truck about half way back in relation to the transmission. If you see where the exhaust joints together, you went about 6" too far.

When you start looking at the O2 sensors, they are normally numbered something like "Bank 1 Sensor 1" Bank 1 is on the passenger side; Bank 2 is on the driver's side. Sensor 1 is the upstream sensor (near the frame, between the block and the cat) and Sensor 2 is near the Y-pipe (downstream of the cat).

Normally it is the upstream sensors (sensor 1) that go first. They see the harshest conditions. You will need; Oxygen Sensor Socket Anti-Seized Penetrating Oil Sometimes it will take 15 minutes or take a few hours it depends on your luck…

The light is on for a reason. To start with, have your local auto parts store read the diagnostic trouble codes. Then post the results here with a new question.

Have the cars cooling system tested at a reputable shop . The test you want to have done is a LEAK DOWN test which will give you a good idea where this problem is. Often this problem is due to a leaking head gasket.

I am having sort of the same problem. My coolant light comes on after I've been driving for a while or if my car has been idling. I have checked all of my fluids and the car doesn't seem to be over heating or running hot. Any suggestions on what might cause this? My dad seems to think there is a short in the wire or the sending unit.

The low coolant sensor is a poor design and prone to failure. Get this - you have to buy the bottle to replace it, as the sensor cannot be purchased separately. The good news is, just unplug it. The light will go out and no codes will be generated. Just check your coolant level from time to time, like we all should do anyways when we check other fluids.

somethings wrong still if you light is on most likely has to to do with the EGR valve or a Vacuum leak

Start by draining some of the oil out. I f you don't pan gasket or main bearing seals may start leaking due to high oil level.

According to something recent, I think at the VW dealer, overfilling can damage the catalitic converter. According to my old-school-Dad, excess oil would be blown out the "breather tube"; better a quart low than a quart high (he would tell me.) Those were the days before the California Cat Converters existed, yet I know not if such a tube still exists, where it discharges, or why they would permit the expensive cat converter to be damaged by overfilling.

Tangent; leaky fuel injector, and other things, can cause gas (or antifreeze) into the oil supply, raising the level while also reducing lubication due to thinned out oil.

This is out of the haynes code book. Disconect the negative battery cable for thirty seconds.

Simply removing the negative terminal from the battery for a couple minute and put it back. that should work

If light keeps on apperaring, you should replace the oxygen sensor located on the headers.

Get Auto Zone or Advanced to pull the codes for you first for free, then take action and fix it.

Sorry for the redundancy, but disconnecting the battery will reset the system. If the check engine light comes on, the most common problem is a bad oxygen sensor. That is why it was suggested that you replace them. If they are bad, you will be getting reduced fuel economy. There are 2 sensors: one before the catalytic converter and one right after the it. They are easily accessible, so replacement is easy.
