putting a 305 in a ford probe would be more expensive that buying a car that would outrun it in the end. ford probe is front wheel drive and the body and frame (unibody) will not come close to taking the weight or abuse that the v8 will expose it to. as far as modifications they would be MAJOR. into the thousands of dollars. dont waste your time. get an SHO motor from a probe and put it in there. it will run with most v8s comfortanly and at a huge savings to your wallet.

I can answer this because a buddy of mine did it. A distributor from a 305 will fit a 350, however it will not perform as well. Loss of horse power and you won't be able to get the timing set perfectly, because of this you will need to adjust the carburator. to the timing. It's a headache, my buddy bought his that way and didn't know it. He fought with it for two years before he figured it out. Once he put the right distributor in, it made a world of difference on the speed. Hope this helps.

sorry mait but your wrong the distributor will work fine in a 350 the one your buddy had must of had bad points or a bad cap or bad advance.

You need to have the carburetor rebuilt by someone that knows carburetors real good. There is 2 well plugs in the bottom of the fuel bowl that are leaking fuel stright into the intake. They need to be resealed, and not just anyone no's how to do that.

ARE you can just by another Carburetor. That is if you have a Quadrajet Carburetor.

If you have a HOLLY carb. on it then the Float level is to high or the Jets are to big and the POWER VALVE is probley leaking are blown. REBUILD CARB.

They are all good for their intended purpose. The 700R4 has overdrive, so it can help with gas mileage, but can't withstand as much torque as a 350. The 350 is economical to rebuild, and can take a lot of abuse, but the 400 is the heaviest duty of the three. It can handle big, high performance engines with a lot of torque, but consumes more of the engine's horsepower because of it's higher reciprocating mass.

if it's an external leak you spray it clean with brake cleaner or something similer and drive it for a few day's then you recheck it,if it's an internal leak you take it to a transmission mechanic and have them take it out and take it apart and see where it's leaking whether it be from the torque convertor seal,pump seal or a massive internal leak due to a bad valve body gasket or a bad apply piston seal among other things,the common external leaks are the pan gasket (bolts slacked off due to vibration of engine),rear output seal (located at the very back of the transmission,where the driveshaft slips in it),the transmission lines will rot out and leak and sometimes the coolers will develop a leak

The distributor is off a tooth or two. You can pull the distributor out and turn the rotor a little and put it back in. Then re-time the engine.

No need to pull the timing chain. Remove drive belt and then remove the crankshaft pulley. use a screwdriver with a piece of cloth wrapped around the tip so you don't damage the seal bore. place the new seal square with the bore and use block of wood or a socket smaller diameter than the seal and a rubber mallet to insert the seal flush with the crankshaft bore. put back on the pulley and tighten according to torque specs in your shop manual then reinstall the drive belt and run engine to check for leaks.
