What car bench seat will fit in a 1980 El Camino?

To fit a bench seat in a 1980 El Camino, you can use a seat from a 1978-1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo or a similar GM A-body model, as they share similar dimensions and mounting points. Additionally, aftermarket bench seats designed for classic cars can also be a great choice for customization. It's essential to ensure that the seat's width and mounting brackets align properly for a secure fit. Always consider the seat's condition and fabric for comfort and aesthetics.

How do you change 1972 El Camino motor mounts?

To change the motor mounts on a 1972 El Camino, first ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported. Disconnect the battery, then remove any components obstructing access to the mounts, such as the air cleaner or exhaust components. With the distributor cap off have some one turn the engine over. If the rotor doesn't turn you broke the cam or a timing gear.

How old is a Monark El Camino bicycle?

I think they were only made in 1962 the huffy sister bike was a galaxy. like ford is to mercuy.

ANSWER:

NOT true. Monark El Camino was made other years. It is impossible to make accurate responses in this case without (A.) first seeing the bicycle in question... and (B.) seeing the serial stampings on the frame. Only then can it be determined what year, etc. NBHAA has ALL Monark information.

How do you pull the ignition lock out of a 1971 Chevelle ss without the ignition key to turn the tumbler to the run position?

The lock is accessible by removing the steering wheel and the signal switch underneath. You have to depress the spring loaded catch that is visible from above with the tip of a flat blade screwdriver and it will pop out.

Would turning a 66 El Camino body into a 64 be a simple matter of bolting 64 fenders hood and grill onto the 66?

If I remember correctly the 64 had tail light lenses that were kind of triangle shaped looking down at them, looking straight at them they were higher in the middle, and the 66 were kind of curved, with the outside edge being higher. The tailgates are different as well the top of the 66 gate is concaved for about 6 or 7 inches from the top then it's convexed all the way to the bottom, they have different emblems too. My 2cents worth: I think you are going to have trouble. '64 and '65 parts should be interchangeable, understanding that the grill and headlghts are different between theses years. When you get inside, the gauge cluster bezel and the console, if so equiped, are also different, although interchangeable. I think the tail lights are the same, and I know all the stainless / chrome bed trim is identical. When you get to '66 and '67, they share a comon body, and you could change out front end sheet metal, grill and headlights with each other, but not with '64 / '65. Most of the bed trim is the same '64 through '67. The taillights are different, and the interiors are way different. Similarly '68 and '69 share a body style, as do '70, '71 and '72. The girlls and headlights changed almost every year. I'm not sure about '71 and '72. On interesting tid bit, the '70 through '72 fenders from a car won't work on an El Camino of the same year, unless it is a station wagon. Check out the web sites for ACES, the American Chevelle Enthusiast's Scociety, or Chevelle Talk and you can find a wealth of information.

You purched a used car 3 months ago and the transmission is going out who do you contact?

Well unfortunately, even if you purchased the vehicle from a dealership, unless there was a specific extended warranty purchased from said dealership, you are most likely going to have to pay for the issue out of pocket. If you did indeed purchase an extended warranty (or the factory warranty still applies) for the vehicle from a used car dealer, you should contact them. In most cases, the work can be performed at any dealer that sells (or sold) your make and model, but will often have a higher deductible than if the work is done at the original point of purchase. If you purchased the vehicle from a private party, then again, unfortunately, It's coming out of your pocket, Caveat Emptor. (May the buyer beware)

Where can you find the build sheet in a 1971 El Camino?

Your build sheets can be found:

  1. On top of your gas tank
  2. Behind Door Panel
  3. Inside the seat
  4. Behind the glovebox

Of course no one elaborates on EXACTLY where it was found!

For bench check the seat bottom and for buckets the seat back.

Apparently the govebox liner must be removed to find that one.

I would also check:

  • Under the carpet
  • behind the front interior A-pillars
  • under the headliner.

There can be up to four build sheets located 1 through 4 above and the body inspection sheet sometimes found in the A-pillar.

I found only a partial sheet on the top driver side of my gas tank.

It was in the same groove as the tank strap except for the fact that it is on the top side of the tank. The straps only hold the tank from the bottom, while the same two channels molded on the upper side fit into the frame.

Unfortunately, there is some kind of tar paper strip they put between the tank and the frame for vibration so much of mine was ruined before I was even born!

So from the top there was body, frame, tar strip, build sheet, and then tank.

The writing was facing up and covered in fine dust a good huff cleared off.

I pried up the scrap that was there and rechecked for any fragments still stuck to the car but there was only a corner with no printing.

You may want to have an assistant peek in as you drop the tank in case half of it gets hung up. Also in case pieces start blowing away down the street.

While searching the net for ways to try to salvage what I have left I found your question. If they can read burnt manuscripts from ancient Rome why can't they clean this up for me?

There are great sources out there like chevelles.com and .net not to mention your local El Camino clubs with old times that might know a great deal but may not be into the whole computer thing.

I have found info in unlikely places. The Buick GS forum for example is full of guys who found build sheets to other cars in their cars or sheets a number or two behind them in the assemblyline. Sometimes several sheets at a time from every car but their own. If twelve cars on the line were ordered with black bench seats, all cars got bench seats but to the line worker it may not have mattered if the seats were mixed up during installation. At least that's how I understand it.

Hopefully you have something worth all the trouble. Those slick flip out razor knives from the local home improvement store make quick work of seats and headliners!

Remember to take photos before you trash everything and before you remove any build sheets as insurance.

Good luck,

What is the best way to go about removing smog equipment from an 87 el camino 305 also what are the repercussions?

I've been the "smog" guy for 23 years in Denver. Your best bet is to replace the stuff with better stuff. A free flowing catalytic converter and a 'chamber' type muffler fromSummitt ($100 for both) will help free up power. Y the exhaust into one 3" tube, a 3" converter and a 3" muffler, then split into two 2 1/2" pipes. Same or MORE power than an open exhaust. Next, if its got an air-pump, just unhook the belt. Headers with built in air tubes are available, but a little pricey. Playing with computer chips for increased 'pulse width' is best left to the pros and gets 'spensive quick!!!

Technically, any removal of 'Smog-Equipment" is illegal. But.............

How do you remove ignition lock from 79 El camino column if you lost the key?

Pull the steering wheel. Now be careful when you get to the wires and remember how to put it back together. There should be a button you can push to release the switch. It is about the size of a pin head. If that does not appeal to you I have drilled my ignitions out with a 1/2 inch drill. But if you go to far you can ruin the steering column. You dont want to go to deep no more than 3/4 inch. If you have another ignition look at it and see how far you can go. I then work at removing the metal til you can turn the ignition. It is just taking your time and not being in to big of a hurry. BE CAREFUL AND YOU SHOULD GET IT OUT OK AND BE ABLE TO DROP ANOTHER IGNITION RIGHT IN. Kathy
