Where is the engine computer on a 2000 impala?

Does a Chevy Malibu have a crankshaft sensor instead of a camshaft sensor?

Yes, it does. I know, because mine is faulty on my Chevy Malibu and it was just replaced. My car would shut off at stop lights and even when driving down the road. It felt as if it was something electrical, or even a fuel issue. Two months of car repairs, which included tune-up, new fuel filter, and trip to the dealer (who couldn't figure out the problem), the mechanic did a google search and found that the crankshaft sensor goes out pretty frequently in Chevys. Hope this helps.

Actually the answer to the original question is NO, the camshaft sensor does not replace the crankshaft sensor. On my 98 Malibu I have a camshaft sensor, a 7x crank sensor and a 24x crank sensor. My Malibu is not starting, we've tested the crank sensor and replaced the computer and still no fire to the plugs. The ignition module has been tested and it's good. There have been a lot of discussion about the Passlock system, but I reset that, now I'm turning towards the camshaft sensor which is suppose to control the fuel and the tach, but there may be other interactions with the computer that keeps it from firing the ignition system. The only indication the camshaft sensor is bad is I get no reading from the tach no the dash or from my OBDII computer reader. My book says the computer uses both crank and camshaft sensor when firing the injectors, but if the plugs don't fire, the injectors aren't the problem and I sprayed starting fluid in the intake and no joy.

What causes a loud knocking noise in the engine?

Usually, knocking indicates bad bearings on the crankshaft. You are going to have to budget for a rebuild on the bottom end of the engine. If the engine has extreme mileage, you would be better off with a remanufactured engine.

your best bet is to get a used motor or if you have the money then buy a new one but either way they are kind of spendy. the cheapest motor i have found was used and priced at $500

Why does your car smell like burning oil?

A smeel of burning oil can be two ways- A leak that runs down the engine and heated up - Cooking the residue off- clean the engine -could be some small amounts of smoke like a light fog around compartment and engine at stop, The other smell of oil can come from burning internally - you would have white to blue smoke out of tail pipe- you've seen trucks and some busses do this . you smell it too - it's harder to breath than the small oil leak on the engine block - you may have other fluids spewing on engine to burn off as well - oil is brown/ clear - transmission is red . If unsure what fluid =put paper or cardboard down to catch leaks - it will also let you concentrate on a specific area if it is not clearly visible.

How do you replace coolant level sensor?

It is in the passenger side coolant tank on the radiator. If the light is on and the coolant is at the proper level then the sensor is defective. To replace it you will have to drain the radiator. Disconnect the wire and remove the clip and remove the sensor.

What is the taping noise of your 1983 Chevy impala 305 Chevy small block engine?

Could be several things, however, it is probably an exhaust leak, or in the valve trane. I would start by checking the oil, however, as this is a warning sign, of it being low.

Yes, if you have the correct tires. You can either do a 275/25/24 or a 275/30/24. I have 24x9s in the front with a 255/30/24 and 24x10s with a 275/30/24 on the back and they fit with no lifting or rubbing at all.
