What would cause the rear-window defogger to quit in a 2006 Chevy Impala?
Without doing a "hands on troubleshooting" of your rear window defogger circuit, NO ONE can tell you for certain what is the specific cause of the failure.
However, the most probable cause is what is called an "open circuit" condition.
Regardless of what causes it, an open circuit condition is the equivalent of turning a switch to the OFF positon. It opens the circuit, cutting off the flow of electricity.
Altough there are probably some causes I haven't thought of at the moment, here are some of the more common causes:
- The fuse for the circuit has "blown" out,
- A connector, or connectors, anywhere in the circuit has become disconnected [unplugged],
- Corrosion has built up on the metal contacts inside of one or more connectors,
- A conductor [wire] in the circuit has been broken or cut,
- The defroster grid glued on the rear window is conductive [like the wires inside of an electric blanket] and are very delicate, and IF only one is broken or damaged, it too will open the circuit.
Find the fault/flaw causing the open circuit, correct it, and the rear window defogger will work again.

the evap system is designed to allow un burned fuel vapor to be purged into the intake while driving also when fuel tank pressure reach to high for example hot day outside most common cause is the vent control solenoid located in the upper rear quarter you can see it underneath. it could be also a kink in a vapor hose or even the fuel tank pressure senor

327 is a Small block. 265 thru 400 were small blocks but to confuse you more the 396 thru 454 were big blocks.

I have a 2005 Impala as well.....I bought a code scanner when my check engine light came on....2 codes came up on the scanner...P0420 and P0420PD.....'catalyst below efficiency'....My car has 115,000 miles on it and it was time for annual safety/emissions inspection so I took it in to a shop.....The catalytic converter had gone bad and had to be replaced.....which was the reason for the P0420 code....

Try a pair of long thin needle nose pliers, or go to almost any Auto Parts store and purchase a telescoping magnet. There is one that is about the size of the end of a cigarette and will telescope out to 18". Use it to retrieve the broken dipstick.

no. you have to lift it and cut it. if its the older style like a 92-99 you'll have to cut the buper and roll the fender. if its the newer bonneville you'll have to cut inside the wheel well and take out the plastic in the wheel well. GOOD LUCK you'll need it!
