Under the hood, on the firewall,on top of the a/c evaporator case is a thermal grid resistor assy. It has two plug in wire plugs. Unplug the larger one. if the fan stops. the resistor assy. ( you just unplugged it ) is shorted. Replace it.

Attemting to change the alternator in a 2008 Chevy Impala. Have everything loose but the the rear bolt hits the firewall and will not come out. The other bolt to the rear that holds the alternator and also a wire bundle is lose, but I didn't take it out because the housing is slotted. Do I need to take it out also? I have the side bolt out (next to the fender). There are two lines over the alternator. What do I do with those? Can't see the the elctric terminal enough to figure out how to release it. Any ideas ?

There is not much you can do with a bad balancer other than replace it with a new one.

Check for blown fuses. If the fuses are good, check the relay, usually in a box under the hood. You may need a volt meter, and possibly a 9 volt battery to do this.

If it is anything like the 01 it is located under the glove box. Remove plastic cover panel by pushing in on the two clips and dropping it down. On my 01 there was a plastic clip back towards the motor a little. Just pull down and it should release. I also removed the door to the glove box to add visibility. There is three screws holding to the shroud. There was also a wiring harness clip that I just broke off to get out the way. Better if you can unclip it. It is a pain to access when you weigh 350 and try to get in there.

Thermostat.

Remove bottom of the license plate cover by slowly pulling outwards. It is glued with a HEAVY 3m tape. The top of the cover is different it has 3 hidden tabs across the top. Slide a flathead screwdriver down from the top of the cover and slowly work each tab out of its slot. There is on the upper left and right and one in the middle.
