No It may cause engine idle and hesitation problems but not smoking. If you are not experiencing oil consumption problems check the head gasket. Lastly a turbo unit that is Twenty-Three years old may also be due for replacement/rebuild. J

1. Pull the serpentine belt using a half inch breaker bar to release the tensioner. 2. Pull crankshaft dampener pulley (22 mm socket)- use an impact wrench, if this will not loosen the bolt, use a breaker bar, resting it on the lower control arm, disconnecting the coil wire, and bumping the motor over. 3.Remove the AC belt by loosening the nut on the front of the tensioner pulley then the bolt on top of the tensioner pulley. 4. Remove the tensioner pulley (15 mm socket) 3 bolts. 5.Remove AC compressor (15 mm socket) 2 bolts and 2 nuts. 6. Remove AC compressor bracket (15 mm socket) 3 bolts 2 on top and one under the compressor. 7. Place a jack under the motor and remove the engine support plate from the block (14 mm socket) 4 bolts. 8. Remove the power steering pump bolts through the access hole in the front of the pulley (15 mm socket) 2 bolts - loosen the nut on the back of the power steering pump (15 mm socket). 9. Remove motor mount from the passenger side fender (12 mm) socket and pull entire engine support plate out. 10. Remove 3 plastic timing belt covers (10 mm socket) 8-10 bolts. With covers removed you will be able to see the 2 cam gears and the crank gear. The timing arrows on the cams will allign with the lines on the belt cover backs and the notch on the crank gear will allign with the line on the oil pump. The rear cam gear is tricky to allign because of the lobe of the cam. 11. Loosen the belt tensioner pulley bolt (12 mm socket), With a screw driver release the tension on the timing belt and retighten the bolt. Remove timing belt. 12. Yes that is your water pump that runs off the timing belt and I recommend you change it now instead of having to go through all this again if it goes out. There is one bolt that goes into the top of the water pump that is tricky to get out, but with a little brute force on the bracket you can get it out without pulling the intake manifold. I did not repace this bolt when I reassembled. 13. Replace timing belt loosen and retighten belt tensioner. Spin motor a few revolutions and recheck timing marks so you are sure it stays correct, you dont want to put this all back together and find out it jumped a tooth. 14. Reverse all to finish and good luck.

The Automatic Shut Down relay, as such, does not exist on 87 Lebaron. It is incorporated within the power control computer module. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, this computer module is located behind and under the battery tray INSIDE AND ENTIRELY WITHIN THE FRESH AIR DUCT !! This air duct runs from in front of the left front wheel at the grill, collecting fresh air, to under and behind the battery tray, exits into a 2 1/2" flex tube, which hooks onto the air cleaner. The local Chrysler garage could not even answer this question. This was my own question posed a couple of days ago, which I solved myself. Judging from the amount of similar questions I read, this may be the case in Chrysler products from the 80's up through 2000; I don't know. But the local parts stores do have the ASD relay in question listed for my 87 Lebaron. Hope this info helps someone besides me.

I wish I could help, but I have change fluid and filter 3 times now and it still is giving me shifting problems. Sorry Make sure you used the right fluid... ATF+3, #7176 specially formulated for the Chrysler A604 (41TE) 4 spd automatic. I just returned from the transmission shop who repaired leaks in my tranny. They put in the wrong fluid and the car searched to shift and "bump shifted" into 1st when stopping. I made them put the correct fluid in... and within an hour, the problem was gone. the A604 also has a electronic shift solenoid which has been a bit of problem on these transmissions, which will cause it to shutter between shifts and down shift very hard, if it gets to severe the computer will only let the trans. stay in first gear, until the computer can have the code reset or flashed by the service shop. but this will repeat itself if the shift solenoid is faulty.

The timing should be set to 12 degrees. First you must fully warm up the engine and then disconnect the coolant temp sensor in the thermostat housing. On the back of the engine (Drivers Side) you will see a rectangular hole to see the timing marks. The hole will have 0 near the front of the car (towards the radiator, and 20 near the back of the car ( towards the firewall).

Now loosen the bolt at the base of the distributor (13mm) and rotate the dist. slowly until the groove in the window on the fly wheel reaches the 12 degree mark. Tighten the distributor back down, and reconnect the coolant temp sensor.

Disconnect the negative cable on the battery to erase the codes set by disconnecting the coolant temp sensor.

You should be good to go now! Hope this helps.

To set the clock on a 1988 Chrysler Lebaron you start by pressing the "set" button while the radio is on and push the volume knob in. Once you see the hour number flashing on the screen, adjust by using "seek" and press the volume knob in once you set the hour and then it will go to minutes. Adjust the minutes using the same "seek" button and press the volume knob in and the time will be set.

the only thing to tighten is the spindle nut and i think that was 125 ft/lbs.

It is under the housing where the upper radiator hose hooks to the engine.

Located at the rear jamb about half way up on each door. One Phillips screw attaches it to the body. Remove screw and pull wire out and unplug the wire connector. Replace with new button switch and screw back in place on the jamb.

take it apart and look for the problem. depending on whats broken you might be able to fix it but you might also need to troubleshoot it, it could be the computer not sending info to the speedometer.

Just put a little PB Blaster on it. And sewing machine oil. Also make sure you properly lube all of the moving parts in the top. This can make a huge difference.

It should have a cap that has a upside down triangle with rounded top that also has a line going through it. It's typically in the front and usually black and yellow.

Depending on what you mean by terrible suspension, I cannot tell you exactly what the problem is. But, you must keep in mind that the Chrysler lebaron is a sports car, with sports car suspension. The suspension on a sports car is hard, and stiff. Obviously if you live an area with bumpy roads, your ging to get thrown around. In fact the effect will be the same as a Porsche 911 or a Mustang. My friend has a mustang that is the same year as my Lebaron and their suspension is tuned almost identically. Your lebaron is design to stick to the ground so it will take every bump hard. If you took your lebaron on a track, you would stick to the road like glue, and be able to hit the turns and corners faster than a town car. that's just a slight little lesson on the appliance of suspension.

I have been having a similar problem with my 94 Lebaron convertible. The alarm goes off intermittenly for no reason when you close the door. The factory book says to use the key and "lock and unlock" either the driver's door of the passenger's door. Sometimes this will work with many tries and sometimes it just goes off by itself.I read on a webpage that one person had disconnected the electric door locks because this is what activates the alarm.I don't know if that works or not. I am trying it today. I just removed the door handle cover and "unplugged" the electric door lock switches.I guess I will find out soon if this works.

The light bulbs for the icon-displays (seatbelts, check engine, etc.) can be easily replaced after removing the instrument cluster bezel (4 screws after cluster removed from vehicle). However, if you are talking about the "digital display" such as speedometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature, oil pressure, etc., that is all tied into the electronic circuitry behind the display and would need the services of a professional that repairs digital instrument clusters. Check Hemmings for those that do that type of work. Your only other option would be to try and obtain a "used" instrument cluster that works properly from recyclers or on the Internet. Good luck, they haven't been made in over 25 years and anything that works will probably be at at premium. Plus, usually no guarantee on used parts.

You can open a hood on a 1995 Chrysler LeBaron convertible gtc from the outside if your lever is broken. All you have to do is get a pair of vise grips and pull the cable which will release the hood.

It stays on when the computer detects a malfunction and sets a trouble code.
