Crankcases and PCV Valves

Basically, a crankcase is the casing for the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. Combustion produces pressure within the crankcase. Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valves regulate the vapor pressure within the engine and recycle it back into the engine.

Where is the PCV on a 04 5.4 e350?

It is located on the passenger side valve cover. It is plastic and blue in color and about 2" long. You need to twist it 90 degrees to remove it. I bought mine at the dealer for $21 and some change. All the auto parts stores gave me the little steel one which doesn't come close to fitting. The parts guy at the dealership was scratching his head too. The one they show on the internet sights is not the one for this truck.

What is a PVC elbow?

PVC is a type of plumbing pipe generally used for sprinkler systems. The pipe is usually white but can come in other colors. The elbow is used to allow the pipe to change directions.

On the other hand, if you're referring to a PCVelbow, that's something altogether different.

The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve pulls gasses out of the crankcase and runs them through the intake. The PCV valve connects to the engine vacuum through a series of tubes, hoses and even elbows. The PCV Elbow allows the vacuum line to be routed more conveniently. If you can't find a replacement elbow at your local auto parts store you MAY need to go to the dealer.

The PCV test determines the ratio of what?

The PCV (packed cell volume) test determines the ratio of red blood cells to the total volume of blood. It is typically expressed as a percentage and is used to assess the blood's ability to carry oxygen, diagnose anemia, and evaluate hydration status. A higher or lower than normal PCV can indicate various medical conditions.

Why is the exhaust valve bigger than the inlet valve?

The intake valve is always bigger than the exhaust valve because there is more volume going in to the cylinder than coming out.

How do you keep a 1989 caravan from burning oil?

If it's a V6 its probably the valve guides leaking , have them replaced, or add a oil supplement like STP or Hi-tach to temporarily slow the oil burning . I used Hi-tach in my own voyager for over 2 years with no problems 1/2 quart per oil change worked for me.

Could a plugged PVC make the engine blow oil at highway speeds?

Yes it could. I'm fixing a 1st gen Neon 95-99 right now. The PCV valve, redundant I kn ow, is old and stopped up. The blowby overpressure pushed out the camshaft seal. New PCV, little RTV on the old seal, should be good as new.

PS My sisters car was losing maybe 2 quarts a day, only when running.

Where is the PCV valve located on a 1998 Grand Prix GT?

It is not like most cars that I have had where you simply pull off a hose and pull out the valve. It is inside a housing that you remove two bolts and take off the cover which has a heavy duty spring under it so take it off slowly. Then remove the spring and I used some needle-nose pliers to grab the nipple of the valve and it pulled right out. I then replaced it with a new valve and put it back together the same way I took it off.

Where is the PCV valve for a 1990 LeSabre?

The elusive PCV valve does not leap out at you on the '90 LaSabre. Since, if your engine and it's spark plug wiring wiring is configured the same as mine, and hopefully it is for the sake of this answer, the PCV valve is hidden beneath those wires and, mostly, is further camouflaged by oil. Anyway, here's how you find the little sucker: As you stand next to your left tire, looking into the engine compartment, follow the 3 rear spark wires, from rear to front, ABOUT 3 inches PAST the REAR rocker arm cover. Pull the wires aside and look down a bit. There, at what might be called the south-west cornor of the rectangle engine block, if you consider the way you are facing to be "north", is the PCV valve. It's real close to the engine block. It fits stright down into its gromet with the hose the conects to the top/plactic part of the valve being only an inch long.

How do you replace the PCV valve on a 1992 Toyota Corolla?

You need the right tools to start with. Look by the manifold intake and remove a piece that looks like a valve next to the manifold intake. then put the new one on and hope it fits nicely. After you install the PCV Valve jump up and down with joy and kick your butt.
