What could cause my BMW to overheat?

BMW models before the mid-1990s typically overheated because of failing fan clutches. The fan clutch is in the hub of the engine driven fan . It uses thick silicone oil and a bimetal strip controlling a internal valve to allow the fan to slip more when cold. Over time a poor seal allows the silicone oil to leak out, resulting in a fan that appears to be working but spins too slowly to cool the engine when hot. Models after the mid-1990s improved the fan clutch seal, but many engines were shipped with water pumps that fail without external symptoms. BMW changed from a metal impeller to a lighter, more accurately shaped, non-corroding plastic composite impeller. With long exposure to hot BMW-specified antifreeze this composite would degrade, eventually breaking apart into the engine. Once the impeller breaks the engine rapidly overheats. Combined with the computer-controlled engine temperature indicator that holds the needle in the middle position until the engine starts to overheat, the driver has very little warning before the engine is dangerously overheated.

How do you adjust the air fuel mixture on a 2003 yz250f?

Two ways:

1. Get a small carburetor screwdriver (about $20 at Cycle Gear, I think). Its only about 1" long and has a couple flat head attachments and a Phillips attachment. You slip the screwdriver head into the bottom of the carb, where the air fuel mixture screw is. You adjust in til it starts to die out, then back out little by little (1/16 turn at a time) til it's at its highest idle. It take a bit of time. Be in a quiet place, lean your head against the seat and close your eyes (sounds corny, but I'm serious). You feel/hear the idle speed more exactly this way.

2. Get an aftermarket screw for this bike. It's longer and has a knurled end so you can turn it with your fingers while the bike is running. I think it's about $20.00. Also - go to Thumpertalk.com they are a great resource for 4 stroke dirtbikes, and alot of people have the Yam 250f because it's a great bike. Not sure if I can do a link, but here's a link that discuss this carburetor. '

here's a link to "Zip Ty " brand fuel screw, but there are alot of other brands. Check your local moto shop.

Why would your airbag light come on in a 2005 dodge ram 1500?

There are pages of codes for the airbag system. You need to have it checked for codes by a qualified mechanic as airbag systems are not a do it yourself system.

What is the speaker size in a 1998 dodge ram 1500?

There are 2 types of speaker systems in 1998 Dodge Rams:

If you have an older 1998 model, the speaker grilles in the front doors are oval-shaped. If you have a 1998.5 model, the speaker grilles in the front doors are circular-shaped.

Both the speakers in the standard and Infinity Gold premium speaker system are the same size for both the older and 1998.5 models:

Older 1998 Models:

-Front Doors: 6X9"

-Front Door Tweeters: Tweeter (Only if you have the Infinity Gold premium speaker system)

-Rear Side Panels: 5X 1/4"

-Amplifier: Under Rear Bench Seat, or Behind Front Seats (Only if you have the Infinity Gold premium speaker system)

1998.5 Models:

-Front Doors: 5X 1/4"

-Front Door Tweeters: Tweeter (Only if you have the Infinity Gold premium speaker system)

-Rear Side Panels/Rear Quad Cab Doors: 5X 1/4"

-Amplifier: Under Rear Bench Seat or Behind Front Seats (Only if you have the Infinity Gold premium speaker system)

Hope this helps! Thanks!

94 dodge ram with 318 when on going down the road oil pressure is about 30 to 35 in 5th gear at 50mph when i let off the gas it goes up to about 45 to 50 psi new oil pump as been installed?

It sounds to me like either the new pump may be too strong pumping oil out of the pan faster than it can flow back down to it or you have blockage not allowing enough oil to flow freely enough back down to the pan. When you let off it doesn't pump as much up at one time so it kind of catches up and the oil pressure rises. I would have the engine checked for blockage and if there's no blockage I would see about getting a little deeper oil pan that'll allow you to have more fluid in it.

How do you replace a transmission solenoid in a 1990 Chevrolet Corsica?

I replaced one a few years back but can not remember if i dropped the pan or there was an access panel on the tranny. I do remember i asked the chevyparts person to look at the picture when i bought the part. He was helpfuland he told me exactlly where it was. I had the 2.8 v6 89 corsica. It wasn'ttoo bad but you need to have a good set of needle nose pliers to put the wireconnectors back onto the terminals. I recall there was limited access for your fingers to get the wire bent the right way and still get the connector on. If you do have to drop the pan, the you may want to have a new filter and gasket ready. Any good Chevy house willhelp you get through the repair. Just talk to the parts person or ask them to ask their coworkers. Don't waste you time trying to get the info from the service writer. When all else fails visit your local autozone, they wont have the part but someone in the store may know. Only replace this part if your car is bucking like mad when you come to a stop or press on the brake pedal getting ready for a stop light. I had the problem for 2 years thinking it was erg related. Someone out on the intenet has probably just replace one complete with pictures. Try a few more car repair sites. If you don't mind some trannyfluid in your hair you should not have much trouble if you take your time. CAr manuals usually are of little help. Tranny shops will replace it, but get your old part back. Some mechanics will disconnect it to keep you on the road, butyou loose you overdrive operation and your gas mileage.

The solenoid controlling the lock up operation of the torque convertor is under the side cover of the trans. The trans is a 125C. A dealer gets around $45 for the wiring harness with the solenoid attached. This is a common problem!Dan

I have a '92 Lumina EuroCoupe with a faulty torque converter clutch solenoid. It sometimes locks up after coming off of the highway. The solenoid keeps pressure applied to the clutch and doesn't let the torque converter slip as it should at lower speeds. I've been running around with it disconnected until I can get it fixed, but I get lower gas mileage. It's a major undertaking to replace it on my car.

I found the procedure on www.alldatadiy.com. It's a pay site, but a year's subscription for about 25 bucks isn't too bad considering the wealth of knowledge and diagrams on the site. Lot's of troubleshooting and testing procedures too. A second vehicle or an annual renewal is about $15. Just don't let it lapse, or you'll be paying the $25 again.

Where is the oil pressure sending unit locatedand is there a diagram or picture you could see of it on a 1995 cummins?

Just a guess, but most likely it is located right near the oil filter, it has threads on it and taps into the block and probably has 2 wires going to it. additional info: on my 95 GC it is located on the block itself not far from the oil filter. It does have 2 wires leading to it and it is a plastic/metal assembly that screws into the block. If the plastic part is broken it will leak a large amount of oil on the ground and cause your oil pressure guage to malfunction...as well as drain the oil from your jeep leading to the engine seizing up eventually. This is a cheap part and easy to find and replace and could also allow a dishonest repair shop to try to sell you an expensive rear main seal repair job.

1993 - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee (1992 - 1996 Cherokee, 1992 - 1995 Wrangler, 1992 Comanche)

Oil Pressure Sending Unit (Sensor, Switch) On the Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 5.2L, it is located behind the engine, near the firewall next to the distributor on the passenger side and sits vertically, at a right angle to the engine. This is a single wire sensor with a plastic pin to help align it with the unit's socket (two wires are present, but the unit gets its ground from the engine block). It is very difficult to see, even with a mirror. Follow the wire, which runs behind the distributor, down to the unit which has a snap fit lock on the side nearest the firewall. Use a small screwdriver to open the snap lock. Be sure to keep the oval rubber seal which you will need to put inside the wire socket on the new unit to ensure an oil-proof seal.

The unit is much easier to replace if you remove the passenger side spark plug and coil wires at the distributor. Be sure to make a diagram to ensure proper reinstallation order. The metal fitting is 1-1/16" in diameter, but is about ¼" deeper than a normal deep socket. Poor design as there is plenty of room for the guts inside the unit and it could easily have been designed for a normal deep socket. Neither Advance Auto nor Auto Zone, etc. had a socket which fit perfectly, not even the Great Neck socket which was labeled for an oil pressure sending unit.

Snap-On Tools undoubtedly has the correct socket if you want to spend the bucks for use on a sending unit which can last well over 200,000 miles (running low on oil and allowing the engine to overheat will shorten its life). However, the GN socket will engage at least two of the unit's faces and, with care, the unit can be gentled out and replaced. It does not have to be screwed in all the way, just snug it up. Do not force as it is easy to break the plastic housing. With luck, you'll never have to do this more than once.

Where is the turn signal flasher relay on a 1993 Plymouth Sundance Duster?

it is behind the plastic panel right below the steering wheel. I believe it is the only noticable one behind this panel. It is a cylindrical plastic item and can be various colors. It should pull out sort of like a power plug. I had to change mine when I got my car. .

Why does a 2001 dodge ram have 8 wires running to the trailer plug when only 7 are needed?

Answer

Is there an extra connection for a rear power outlet? I think so.

The extra hot wire in your trailer plug is for your camper if your towing one. This charges the camper battery while your driving and can discharge your truck battery if you leave it connected and are drawing on your camper electrical system. I found this out the while I was switching my trailer plug and found I had an extra hot wire. The fuse for this is either in the fuse box with the others or if it was added after production is in line at the left front fender corner.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 2001 Alero 2.4 L having taken the lid off where do you find the plugs and how to you take them out?

removing the lid (module tower): remove the bolts and pull up gently to separate the spark plug boots,(boots are connected and a part of the module) from the plugs below. Remove the four plugs below with a standard spark plug socket with a long extention and ratchet. probably should use 1/2 " drive.

When putting the tower back over the plugs, be carefull that you possition the boots evenly(making sure they slide on the plugs straight), while pushing down on the module.

There is a problem with the SRS. Not a DIY repair. Take it to a professional.

Why would the low and high beams not be working with the light switch on 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4?

Check fuse and headlight switch itself. The switch and its plug are probably melted.
