Where is the sensor which regulates shifting through forward gears on a 1999 Dodge Stratus?

assuming it's automatic. it's inside the transmission. and it's not a sensor really. it's hydraulic pressure that builds in a planetary gear system. if it won't shift, then your inner tranny seals are toast and it's gonna cost you about $600 to have fixed. whatever you do, do not try to repair the tranny yourself. it's ugly, nasty, and scary in there with hundreds of little springs, fittings, and seals that just love to run, jump, and play where you can't find them. There is more than one sensor that regulates shifting. The one I'm familiar with is the input speed sensor. What happen to my car was the check engine light came on the first day but the car seemed fine. On the 2nd day it got stuck in 2nd gear but I found out if I shut the car off and restarted it, the transmission would go thru the gears twice but on the third time it would stay in 2nd gear. I took it to the shop to have them put it on the computer and the tech said the input sensor was bad he suggested changing the output speed sensor also because his experience was they are bad for going out also. The shop wanted $100.00 for putting them in so I just bought the parts and put them in myself. It took me about 2 hrs and after changing the sensors the check engine light went off and the car shifts fine. The transmission is a automatic.

How do you change a camshaft position sensor on a 2006 dodge stratus?

For a 2.7 litre six cylinder engine, the camshaft position sensor is located in the front or on the right side of the front engine head. Be sure the engine is cool before you start to remove it. It's fairly easy to change, just in an awkward spot to get to. You can see the connector on the front of the head just right under the top radiator hose. The sensor is held in with a 13mm bolt that has a wiring support tab attached to the top. Remove the wire support tab and then remove the bolt. After the bolt is out, just pull the sensor out with you fingers. A new sensor from the dealer will run around $55.00. I installed one from Autozone and it didn't work. It caused another error to show up. The other error cleared when I put the old sensor back in. Best to get the sensor from the dealer and you wont have to deal with more problems. What error code did the car give you. A PO340 is normal for "Intermittent signal from camshaft sensor to PCM". You can check this on your dash odometer readout by turning the ignition key to the ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON, not starting the engine, then your dash tone will sound five times, then the odometer will readout the codes, one code at a time, like "0340" for the camshaft sensor error. After reading the codes, the odometer will say "DONE". Here is a site to help read the codes: http://www.iequus.com/support/obd2_definitions.php

Will a v8 fit in a dodge dynasty?

It is pretty vague to say something like, "will a V8 fit in...", and it's simply unanswerable, just because that's only the number of cylinders and their configuration, it doesn't tell you how big it is. If you asked, "Will a Chrysler 340 V8 fit in a Dodge Dynasty," I would have to say that it would with modification. You'll have to weld together your own engine mounts by cutting Dynasty mounts in half for any Dynasty regardless of what engine it goes to, cutting 340 V8 mounts in half regardless of what vehicle they go to, and welding them together. You'll have to get some piping , mufflers, and aq catalytic converter to make your own exhaust system, too. Once you do that, make something to mount the exhaust pipes to the bottom of the car and put it all together. I almost forgot, you'll have to get a transmission that'll fit the 340 and the car, get a drive shaft that fits, a front suspension that fits (since a Dynasty would be front wheel drive), and a rear differential that fits. That's all you'll need, but I'd recommend that you, considering you have time on your hands and the proper tools and will power, remove the body of the car and do it all on the bare chassis; it's a lot less of a pain. That's it.

Where is the thermostat located on a 2001 Dodge Stratus?

4 cylinder it is under the housing that the upper radiator hose hooks to.

Why would the ignition starter fuse in a 97 Dodge Stratus blow everytime you start the car?

your wiring to the fuse box has been loosend or broken. make sure it is pushed all the way in and try again. if that doesnt work than you have break (shortage) in the wiring itself!!!

EDIT:More likely than the idea above, if your starter is over 10yrs. old it may be going bad. a bad starter can actually draw to many amps of electricity as it starts to break down. A bad starter can easily be checked at most auto parts stores by being "bench tested" and measuring the starters draw of amperage. another possibility is the Ignition Switch in your steering column, as you turn your key and activate the switch which in turn sends power to the starter, over thousands of cycles throughout the years it can just wear out. any electrical switch that wears out creates resistance in the line and draws more current. This current spike can cause the fuse to blow. On a good note, both of these items can be replaced by most people with common hand tools (metric socket set, car jack, screwdrivers etc.)at home fairly easily. Just invest in a Chilton or Hayes manual to guide you through the steps.

Whatever you do... NEVER replace the blown fuse with a higher amp fuse as the next weakest link in the chain will be the cars wiring harness itself, and THAT can easily start a fire.!!!!! Start with a new starter.

What is code 1255 95 dodge stratus?

On Pre-OBDII cars - Chrysler use 2 digit codes.

So I believe you have 2 separate codes "12" and "55".

"12" is the battery has been disconnected recently

"55" is end of stored codes

Purpose of a tcm fuse on a dodge stratus?

The fuse protects the circuit that powers the transmission control module.

How do you change the transmission filter on a 2002 Dodge Stratus SE?

Again, mine is a 2000. You gotta "drop" the pan from the bottom of the transmission. You may have to remove a plastic cover or two if it's stock. Oh, get a drip pan for your tranny fluid to go into. prepare to get real messy if it doesn't have a drain plug

How do you change the rear main seal on a 1995 Chevrolet Z71 4x4 with a 350 motor?

THE MAIN SEAL IS A TWO PIECE SEAL LOCATED AT THE BACK OF THE BLOCK. YOU NEED TO DROP THE TORQUE CONVERITOR COVER. REMOVE THE THREE BOLTS HOLDING THE TORQUE CONVERITOR TO THE FLYWHEEL. THEN REMOVE THE SIX BOLTS HOLDING THE FLYWHEEL ON. NEXT REMOVE THE TWO 13MM REAR CORNER PAN BOLTSAND THE STUDS. AFTER REMOVING THE FLYWHEEL YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE A ALUMINUM RING BOLTED TO THE BACK OF THE BLOCK THAT IS THE MAIN SEAL IT IS HELDED ON BY FOUR 10MM BOLTS AND THEN THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY SHOULD SLIDE OFF. BE CAREFUL OF THE PAN GASKET BETWEEN THE RING AND PAN. (I choose to change my pan gasket and oil at the same time as I change this seal.)

How do you bleed the cooling system on your 2005 Dodge Stratus with a 2.4 motor?

Ensure that the engine is cold so that no back pressure is in the system. Remove the radiator cap and then locate the butterfly valve which is under the radiator. Place a pan under the radiator and open the valve. When the radiator is drained, close the valve and pour in fresh antifreeze, then recap. These are generic instructions which apply to pretty well any vehicle.

Why would error no bu5 come on a dodge stratus 2000?

It's a common error especially after the battery has been disconnected or gone completely dead. It usually means that the computer needs to be reset. You may need to take it to the dealer or a knowledgeable shop.

How do you set the timing on a 2000 Dodge Stratus?

You shouldn't have to - unless your on-board computer has gone bad, but then your engine shouldn't even fire.

The timing belt broke on A 2005 dodge stratus interference engine will there be more damage to the engine?

2.4 liter engine? Yes. It's an "interference" engine meaning that absent proper piston/valve timing, the pistons struck and bent the valves. Very expensive repair which sometimes equals or exceeds the value of the car.

The 2005 manual calls for replacement of the belt at 100,000 miles, which is the longest lasting belt I've heard of... 60,000 is more usual.

The design angers car owners, but the engineers design these engines to be quite high performance despite their small displacement. Personally, I'd sacrifice a few horsepower just to have the option of simply re-timing the engine and slipping on a new belt.

CODES 42 21 for a 1997 dodge stratus what do they mean?

Start with the ignition off. Within five seconds, switch the key on, off, on, off, on. (On is *not* start!) The "check engine" light will flash. Count the flashes Each code is a two digit code, so a (for example) 23 would be FLASH FLASH (pause) FLASH FLASH FLASH (long pause) It will never flash more than 9 times, watch for pauses! 55 is end of codes - it's normal. Before you call your dealer or mechanic, consider that the blink-spacing is not always perfectly uniform, so if you see 23 23, it's probably just a single 55. (Codes are not repeated.) 33 is normal on earlier models if you don't have air conditioning. IMPORTANT. Codes may be different for newer vehicles starting in the late 1990s. 11 No ignition reference signal detected during cranking (bad Hall effect) OR timing belt skipped one or more teeth; OR loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor.
