Dodge Stratus

Let me first say this: There is a lot of conflicting answers on the internet as to whether a 2006 dodge stratus is an interference motor so I had to write this. I just got a call from my trusted mechanic after my timing belt broke on my 2006 2.4 litre, 4 cylinder, 16 valve engine and there WAS damage to the valves. I happen to be going 60 mile per hour when the belt gave. He said that if I was just idling or going slow I might of had a chance at not damaging the valves (I think this is where the confusion stems from)

So, sorry to deliver the bad news. I was hoping and praying that the people who said that this was an interference motor were wrong but I can tell you they are not.

If you have a good mechanic in the family you might be in luck because this is a LABOR intensive job. If you have someone do it make sure they change the water pump while they are already in there.

If you are going to go to the dealer I can tell you that you are looking at about a $2,500-3000 job all said and done. They cant determine if there is valve damage until the timing belt is back on, so that is $1,200 to find out. Then if there is valve damage (which there probably is if you were driving fast) now your looking at another $1,500 (ball park). As soon as I heard that I had to shell out $1,200 with no guarantees I took it to my mechanic and got the answer (the only reason I went to the dealer is because I was out of state when that happened and I did not want to tow it that far, I then rented a uhaul tow to take it to my mechanic after I realized the kind of numbers I would have to contend with)

Bottom line: If your stratus has over a 130k miles on it with very limited options its probably not even worth it if you have the dealer fix it. My 2cents. It is worth noting that is specifically for a 2006 dodge stratus with 2.4 litre engine, 4 cylinders and 16 valves. I know there is a v6 version out there which may be different. For people who have the v6 you MIGHT be in luck because I heard that they might have done something different with the larger engines (not sure), good luck and hopefully it turns out better for you than the people who bought the 4 cylinder version.

You have to unscrew the drain plug. The drain plug is located right under the front bumper in the bottom right corner of the radiator. once you unscrew this (i sprayed some pb buster on it) it screwed right off.. from there drain the fluid that's in there. flush it with some water. and replace the antifreeze

Where is the crank sensor on a 2003 dodge stratus 4 door 2.4 L DOHC?

On the 97 s series trucks with the hvs, The camshaft sensor is located inside of the distributor.

haha, I had the same problem. If someone has jacked your car up, they placed the jack in the wrong spot and cracked the body weld. pull your carpet back and seal with some silicone or something like that.

Any name brand 5w30 or 10w30.

*5w30 is intended for lower temperature use, and 10w30 for higher temperatures.

If you live somewhere that gets quite cold (as low as -30 C) you'll be best off using 5w30. For more temperate climates, 10w30 is a good choice.

It would help if you stated what type of vehicle it is. There are several 2.7 engines in different vehicle types.

turn your key on. if u'd see ABS light on, before they all will go out then u do.

The Dodge dealer wants $40.00 for the key and programming it.

You have to remove the oil pan to drain the fluid.

The battery is in the driver's front fender in front of the wheel. It is directly below where the (+) and (-) terminals are in your engine bay. You will need to remove the wheel and the wheel cover to access it.

Automatic Transmission Fluid. When you change your transmission fluid, always use the recommended (listed in the manual) fluid. (1989-91 owners, ignore the manual and use ATF+3). Don't just assume your mechanic or dealer knows what fluid to use. Ask them what they will use and make sure it's the right one. (Some people recommend watching the mechanic pour it in, and for good reason! We have been told about mechanics who said they were using ATF+3 when they were not. Is your transmission worth the $10 you save on a cheaper fluid?) All Chrysler four-speed automatic transmissions* are very sensitive to the quality of the transmission fluid. Only use the ATF+[3 or 4] in these transmissions. Do not use Dexron or Mercon.

No, there is only one fuel pump. It is accessed through the removable plate inside the trunk.

Ignition off, hook a battery charger to the battery post and let it charge. Black - Red + Disconnect the charger before starting the vehicle. You do not have to remove the cables nor take the battery out of the vehicle. Batteries are constantly being charged on the vehicle with the alternator. That is just unnecessary work for nothing.

Since the battery is in the fender, you hook the battery charger to the jump start posts under the hood.

Follow the hose at the bottom of the radiator down to the alternator right below that are two bolts to remove to gain access to the thermostat. Remove the old one and install the new one.

Trouble code P0645 means:A/C clutch relay control circuit
