Drywall

Drywall has several common names, such as gypsum board and sheetrock. It is mainly used in the construction of walls, but also has other uses. A plaster is made of gypsum, poured flat and smooth, and then wrapped in paper. The pieces are joined with strips of paper, and cemented down with a compound known as "mud." After the mud is dry, it is sanded and the wall is finished with paint, texture, wallpaper, or a variety of other creative means.

Is drywall bad for dogs?

There is nothing at all wrong with a dog being in a room with drywall. The problem comes in when dogs with behavioral issues chew the drywall. This can actually cause a very serious digestive blockage.

What to do if your puppy eats drywall?

Plain drywall is nontoxic to dogs, and in very small amounts they are usually okay. It is made of similar materials to classroom chalk. However, it doesn't take very much to cause an intestinal blockage. If the puppy becomes lethargic, quits eating or drinking normally, or seems to have a tender belly, go ahead and take in to the vet right away. The puppy could be in danger, and the vet will need to check things out.

How much weight can one half inch drywall hold with a drywall anchor in the ceiling?

If there's any question about whether or not a drywall anchor will hold on the ceiling, the best thing to do would be to find a ceiling joist and use a long screw to go into solid wood. (Use a stud finder to locate the joist.) Hanging on a ceiling is more dangerous than hanging on a wall since things that fall can fall on people or pets.

If you HAVE to hang just in drywall, use the strongest anchor you can get (i.e. one that expands like a butterfly after insertion, or the type that flares out like a flower when you tighten it). Your local hardware store can help with what's a reasonable weight limit.

Will eating drywall hurt a guinea pig?

If its fecal matter turns purple, which drywall has a 98% chance of causing, it means a fatal liver chemichal has been released. Make sure your guinea pig has untainted water and extra food. Clean its cage very well, and hope for no purple poop.

Why is gypsum used for drywall?

Does an independent contractor in the drywall business need to carry workmen's comp?

Your General Contractors (or clients, if you go direct) may be liable for your Work Comp coverage if you don't carry it because many states are "ladder states." If you work with a GC, ask them if they can include you on their coverage and adjust your pay accordingly. If you carry your own Comp, you may find you can compete better for jobs. If you have employees, YES, please carry Comp - you're liable even if the law says you're exempt because of your company size or employee type.

How much does sheetrock cost?

Sheetrock cost will varry with the location. I live in semi rural Utah and pay 20 to 30 cents a square foot depending on supply scource, time of year and local demand. If you live in an area where supply is short, demand is high or product must be brought in from a far off or mabey there is a local producer, these will all have an effect on the price. What is the average cost to replace particle or chip board internal walls in a home?

"Chip board" otherwise known as "oriented Strand Board" or more commonly (for short) OSB is for external sheating or floor sheathing only. All interior walls and ceilings should have sheetrock applied to them. This is a Strict fire code in every state I can think of. If you like the look of wood on your walls or ceilings, first apply sheetrock, 1/2 inch on the walls and 5/8 inch on ceilings, then apply chosen wood product over the sheetrock. Particle board resembles " glued together saw dust". It is used mainly in cabinetry work or innexpensive furniture, sometimes on stair treads. In my opinion particle board is not a good structural material. OSB fluctuates with the market anywhere from about $6.00 to$13.00 for a 4'x8' sheet. It sky rockets during hurricane season. "Sheetrock" is a brand name of gypsum board used for fire containment in most buildings, it usually runs about $5.00 to $8.00 per 4'x8' sheet.

How do you install a double sink vanity behind drywall?

Question is unclear. A double sink can use one drain, you would anchor the base to the wall the same as a single sink and the vanity is on top or in front of the drywall. If you are replacing a single sink with a double, the supply and drain could be in the vanity, you would not have to open up the wall.

What's wrong if your kitchen sink is not clogged but you have standing water underneath the sink and it appears that no visible pipes are leaking and water is draining from the back side of drywall?

Do you have a 3rd hole for the sprayer? My sink often gets a little water underneath because water trickles down the sprayer hose and underneath the sink when it isn't used properly.

There are pipes (not visible) that are inside the wall. That may be the source of your leak. You would have to cut a hole near the draining water to inspect those pipes.
