The most famous speech that Patrick Henry gave, that includes the words, "Give me liberty or give me death," was given before the Virginia Provincial Convention, in 1775. Henry was urging that the Virginia militia be armed for the defense of the colony against England.

One of his most Famous Speeches was "I Have a Dream" but he has TONS of speeches.
The most famous speech of Martin Luther King's is the "I Have a Dream" speech, given in front of the Lincoln Memorial during the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

The speech focused on his "dream" that one day racism would end and the United States would be a free nation for all of its citizens.

The original name of this speech was "Free at Last." This is also the finals words of the speech. King thought that since they were the final words they would be remembered most and thus chose to name the speech that. Because the general public remembers "I have a dream," this is what the speech has come to be known as many years later. In my honest opinion it is a disservice to everything that King fought for to keep referring to his speech by the wrong name.

One of Abraham Lincoln's most famous speeches is his second inaugural address. Another was, of course, the Gettysburg Address. An earlier speech of note is his House Divided against itself cannot stand.

Is it Nelson Mandela? I knew that Nelson Mandela is the first black president. Nelson Mandela became a leader because of his touching speech. He suffered imprisonment in a deep cause. "We are met on a great battlefield of that war (the Civil War). We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation (the USA) might live."

Mostly, yes, according to Time Magazine, but he passes them around for comments, especially from Obama's speechwriter Jon Favreau.

"When you're working with Senator Obama the main player on a speech is Senator Obama," Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist, said. "He is the best speechwriter in the group and he knows what he wants to say and he generally says it better than anybody else would."

When campaigning for the Presidency, and as a Senator, this was true. Now, as President, Obama has very little time to devote to speechwriting, and the large quantity of speeches he is required to make demand a speechwriting staff handle the vast majority of work around speeches. This is no different than any other modern President - speechwriting is staffed out, with the President usually giving final editorial input, but the "message" and the language are almost always that of someone else.

Frankly, only a very important occasion would be cause for Obama to write even a portion of a speech, as there simply is far better use of his time now as President.

Although racism certainly existed, and in various forms continues to exist throughout the US and the world, the concern of the Civil Rights movement at the time of King's famous speech was the institutionalized racism of the southern states. You did not find such things as "Whites Only" restaurants in the north.

There are a lot. One I can think of right now is "A house divided against itself will not stand." He said this in regards to the civil war and the split between the north and south about the slavery issue. The quote is originally from the bible: Mathew chapter 12 verse 25.

The phrase is adapted from the first English translation of the Bible by John Wycliffe and is included in the General Prologue to the Bible translation of 1384. The statement was made is, "This Bible is for the Government of the People, by the People, and for the People." A paraphrase of this was made by Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address.

Neither. Those are not the words you should use to define a group of people.
