DANGEROUS CHEMICAL NOTICE REGARDING GLYCOL BASED COOLANT: WASH DOWN THE WORK AREA COMPLETELY WITH WATER REMOVING ALL TRACES OF COOLANT. ANIMALS AND SMALL CHILDREN LIKE THE TASTE OF COOLANT AND IT IS FATAL- REPEAT- FATAL, THIS COULD BE YOUR CHILD OR PET. DISPOSE OF COOLANT PROPERLY, CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL GARAGE OR AUTO PARTS STORE. Viewing the engine from the front of the car, there is a plastic cover between the FWD cylinder bank and the front frame. Remove the 3x screws w/ 7mm; there is the WP on the right hand side at the bottom of the belt. WITH THE ENGINE DEAD (overnight) COLD REMOVE the battery completely, 10mm wrench for clamps, deep 10mm for hold-down nuts. Place a nice size (3gal) tub under the car and loosen the coolant cap- left side, looking aft. Remove the clamps on the short rubber hose between the forward metal pipe that runs under the fwd cyl, bank and the thermostat assembly; remove the short rubber hose. Below the thermostat is an electrical connector (MTX), push down on the tab, pull back out of the way. bag it if you're paranoid or just use a good contact cleaner upon re-assembly Undo the 1 in diam. coolant hose just aft of the thermostat assembly; that's why there's a coupler there. Remove the FWD of the thermostat assembly, 2 x 8mm, remove T-stat an crushed O-ring, replace both upon re-assembly... about $12.00 On the top left side of the belt tensioner, there's a notch for a screwdriver blade. Push the tensioner back and remove the belt. Remove the tensioner assembly 1x 8mm. Remove all bolts holding the WP, (Long and short 8mm and 1/4 in flex drive is really nice) start at the thru-bolt nearest the top and lay out in sequence of removal on the plastic trim piece in front of the front windscreen (96) Look down from the top of the WP and you will see an area where you can place a large screwdriver blade and GENTLY torque off the right side of the WP. Scrape off the old gasket material on the engine side, look for debris and trouble. NOT IN THE MANUAL! Affix the new WP gasket to the WP with a THIN coating of #2 NON-hardening Permatex; do NOT use on the engine side. Align all holes on the gasket, remove excess, set by gently warming with a hair dryer. Make sure it's tacky enough that the gasket doesn't move around Replace WP, replace bolts in sequence with a final cross-pattern torquing of ONE finger's torque on the wrench. Replace tensioner. Replace new thermostat vent rivet to the top, O-ring goes on the outside of the assy. connect front of assembly 2x 8mm Clean electrical connector with spray contact cleaner that IS SAFE for plastic, DO NOT use brake-kleen. Check to make sure it's locked down. Replace WP drive belt per decal on front frame. Replace short connector hose and clamps . Re-connect 1" coolant line Replace a few quarts of coolant and check for leaks, engine off (Don't ask me why)NO LEAKS? Proceed. Replace front cover, 3x 7mm Install battery, fire up, check for leaks WASH DOWN THE WORK AREA COMPLETELY WITH WATER REMOVING ALL TRACES OF COOLANT. How do you replace the fuel filter located on a 2000 Ford Contour?
For the 2000, the fuel filter is on the passenger's side towars the rear. Look under the car at the rear jack point. The filter is tucked up just inside the frame member. It's held in place by a hose clamp type strap. The lines are held on by plastic "U" clips - new ones should come with the new filter. All you need is a couple of screwdrivers - one to back off the clamp and a small one to help remove the plastic clips.
Before starting the job, open the under hood fuse box and pull the 15 amp fuse to the fuel pump. Start it up, and let the moter die from fuel starvation. This gets the fule pressure off the line.

Some of the edges of the Upper Intake Manifold (UIM) are sharp, so be careful during install don't let the wires get damaged. The best plugs for these cars appear to be the Autolite APP764 double platinum plugs. Other plugs, including all of the fancy expensive ones I've heard of, generally become useless after only 30k miles or sooner.

You first have to take the battery out of car. Then remove the airfilter assembly and all the hoses that are in the way to get to the starter which is on top of transmission. You then have to get a 13 millimeter crows foot because you can not get to the bolts on the starter any other way without striping them. remove starter. Then you need to drop the transmission which is not a hard job if you have the rite tools. Its a 13 milimeter for the transaxle assembley as well I believe if you have a strut spring tool it would be easier just to unbolt subframe gives you more working room. the slave cylinder is the last part in the housing of the transaxle you have to remove the flywheel which has a dowel pin through it then the clutch plate the pressure plate and there you are making sure you mark all componant the putting lines on these can make them line up the rite way. If your going to change the slave cylinder you my as well do the clutch and pressure plate as well. Will save alot of time and money in the future. You also have to remove left front wheel. To be able to get to some of the bolts as well. If you lived close I would do it for you cheap. Like 100 dollars. Could be airlocked in the heater core.what you need to do is loosen off the rad cap so it will stay with the car and drive to a hill. Point it upwards and let it idle to circulate the antifreeze. You should notice that the antifreeze level has gone down. Top it up and replace rad cap. had the very same problem, answer might surprise. make sure your battery cables on the plus side are in excellent shape. replaced mine overhaeting problem gone, radiator fan (electric) was not running at full speed. secondary check that both fans are kicking in as the temp goes up. i think there was a recall on those fans.

But if yours is older and its behind the rear window take the plastic cover off usually it has one or two screws holding it in place unscrew it pull it back or up being easy with it and you can now change the bulb and now when your done put the cover back in place put the screws in place and snug the screws tight Warning do not over tighten because the plastic will break or crack very easily and now your done . This should take you less than 5 minutes to do and its that easy.
