When a serpentine belt is loose it means either the belt has stretched and needs replacing, or the idler tensioner is defective and needs replacing, or both.

A blinking indicator means a malfunction has occurred. It could be electrical or mechanical. Start with checking the transmission fluid and the system for trouble codes.

It is not in the valve cover, as on other Focus engines. It is on the side of the engine, under the intake manifold, plugged into the "oil separator". It is possible to reach it from underneath, albeit blindly, if you have the car on a rack. The service manual suggests removing the intake manifold to get to it. The difficulty in reaching it may have something to do with the service schedule for replacement being set way out at 100,000 miles.

In an automatic transmission, there are many bands and fluid valves causing the vehicle to go into the proper gear. Testing the vehicle computer codes may show a problem but most likely a transmission mechanic will have to diagnose the problem.

the fan has a thermostat that is set to the manufactures specs. They usually set them pretty low, because of the increase in the use of aluminimun head. If they get to hot they can be warped. hope it helps. duboff I have the same problem - thermostat doesn't open and fans don't come on until temp gauge is at or lose to the L in normal (just before over-heating). It's in the steering colum. Remove the two screws that hold the plastic covers on the steering colum. Take off the plastic covers. The relay is on the right side of steering wheel by the turn signal lever. Sqaure black relay, pull it out and plug the new one in. Replace plastic colum covers. Done.

IF IT IS THE 2.0 ZETEC 16 VALVE DUAL OVERHEAD CAM THE TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT IS ON THE LOWER SIDE OF THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING HAS TWO SENSORS, THE ONE ON THE TOP IS THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR THAT SIGNALS THE RADIATOR FAN, AND THE ONE ON THE BOTTOM IS THE TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT THAT RUNS THE TEMP GAUGE. THE SENDING UNIT HAS A WIRE CLIP THAT MUST BE PULLED BEFORE YOU CAN PULL THE PLUG.

Replace the plugs: change the oil and filter. Check the air filter and replace if needed. Replace the fuel filter if it is more than 25,000 miles or 5 years old.

If it is a V6 you need to remove the passenger side tire, 3 pieces of wheel well cover, drive shaft, and exhaust at the "Y" after the manifold. There are 3 bolts (13MM, as I recall) the hardest is the top bolt as 2 bolts bolt from the engine towards the wheel. The 3rd bolt attaches the alternator to a bracket. In short took us 8 hrs to remove the old one and 40 mins to install the new one and a few more hours to re-install the exhaust system, drive shaft, wheel well pieces, and the tire. What a crappy design flaw by FORD as i have changed alternators in a parking lot in less than an hour without air or a torch to heat the rusted bolts to get the exhaust loose.

It is possible the antenna is bad but it is probably the receiver that has gone out. The receiver is under the dash, above the gas pedal, behind the ash tray. It is silver with wires and the antenna plugged into it. They are getting harder to find for a reasonable price.
