If it is a V6 you need to remove the passenger side tire, 3 pieces of wheel well cover, drive shaft, and exhaust at the "Y" after the manifold. There are 3 bolts (13MM, as I recall) the hardest is the top bolt as 2 bolts bolt from the engine towards the wheel. The 3rd bolt attaches the alternator to a bracket. In short took us 8 hrs to remove the old one and 40 mins to install the new one and a few more hours to re-install the exhaust system, drive shaft, wheel well pieces, and the tire. What a crappy design flaw by FORD as i have changed alternators in a parking lot in less than an hour without air or a torch to heat the rusted bolts to get the exhaust loose.

It is possible the antenna is bad but it is probably the receiver that has gone out. The receiver is under the dash, above the gas pedal, behind the ash tray. It is silver with wires and the antenna plugged into it. They are getting harder to find for a reasonable price.

YES I HAVE THE ANSWER...REPLACE THE TEMP GUAGE. ITS NOT AS HARD AS YOU WOULD THINK...ABOUT A 20 MIN. JOB ------------------------------------------------

I tried replacing the temp gauge but that wasn't the problem for me. On top of the engine is a temp sender that is all so easy to get to but it is for the engine computer. The temp sender for the gauge is under the water pump. My temp sender went bad because the water pump started leaking. It is like the engine is headed for a major problem of over heating but it disables the temp sender which warns the driver of over heating.

It is not easy to change the temp sender but it is doable if you pull off the thermostat housing. Don't put the old thermostat back in. Also, don't get an aftermarket temp sender, I got one and it reads 3/4 hot all the time. It only cost me $5 but I wish I had have bought from the dealer what ever it cost.

the valet switch is feature of an alarm system that is not factory...the installer may have placed the button just about anywhere...within reach of the driver usually...good luck..:)

Is your problem with the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) (encoded key) or the Anti theft alarm system?

If you're talking about the PATS system, the answer to your question is NO. The PCM must get the PATS signal or it does not allow the engine to start. It would not be much of a theft deterent if it could be bypassed.

For the Anti-Theft Alarm System, do the following:

1. Insert the key into the door lock on the driver's side front door.

2. Turn the key counterclockwise and then return it to the starting position.

3. Remove the key from the lock.

4. Open the door and insert the key into the ignition.

5. Turn the key clockwise to the "On" position to disarm the alarm.

Osiliscope or a scanner. You need to see the wave pattern to check it properly.

A ford contour holds approximately 4 quarts of oil. Add about 3.5 quarts of oil, then add slowly until the dipstick reads full.

The transmission is a 4 speed computer controlled model. If your transmission starts shifting erratic or not at all, then make sure you or a shop run a scanner on the vehicle. You want to see if you have a sensor that has gone bad, causing your problems. The vehicle speed and transmission range sensors like to go bad on vehicles with these transmissions in them.

first there may be a Philips screws under a tab just behind inside door latch.

then there may be 2 Philips screws under panel, also 2 on side of panel. (outside, not by hinge)

there may also be 1 Philips screw on side of panel (inside, by hinge)

unhook window switch which should pop out.

panel should be able to be lifted STRAIGHT UP at that point.

double check before pulling real hard!

Its similar to the 97 pulley however some advances were made primarily in the metallurgy processes during manufacture, it still retains the tension capability however at an increased pulley factor.

I believe on the car you need a special tool that inserts into the back of the cams to hold them in place. So if your question is "how do I reset the timing after I change gears, belt, or cams," the answer is make sure you get that tool first. Second check to see if there is a spout connector on the car, if there is disconnect that. If you don't know what a spout connecter is, look at the vehic. identifacation sticker, it should give you some info on timing. There it will say if there is a spout connector. When the connector is taken off timing should be as normal marks on the dampner pully with the correct mark of degree. The correct mark of degree is also on the vehic. identifacation sticker.

there is no spout connector you just put a flat bar in the end of the cams to hold them in place and then there are two marks on the crank pulley and you line up the one on the right to the mark below it(on the oil pan).

Either at the bottom or the rear lower section of radiator

You remove the heater blower by removing the bottom cover of the Glove Compartment. Then you will see The heater blower housing. Then you will see like a black clip you need to lift. Then You simply turn clockwise and bingo its off. To install just do the same thing except in reverse mode. Good Luck!!
