You can test this by measuring the voltage from the battery with a multimeter. With the car running the volts should be around 14 or more on a 12 volt battery. Try it with the lights on too.

Hmmm, you're asking the question about several different vehicles all with different combinations of cam/crank. The general purpose answer is, the factory gears all have marks on them (unless, for some crazy reason, someone has ground them off). If you've replaced them with something from the aftermarket, you should contact the maker/supplier of the gear (hard to imagine no marks though). For the Solara (this forum) to set cam timing without marks you'd have to be absolutely certain #1 cylinder was at TDC. You'd set the cam to have both valves closed (but you could easily be off by a tooth). You'd do the same with the crank turned precisely 180 degrees and, after determining which cylinder is now at TDC set that cam so both valves are closed. It would be a frustrating exercise that you'd probably have to do more than once. For the Fords with overhead valves it's a little simpler, just do the first cam procedure (you can still be off by several degrees so a cam timing wheel would be really handy). Frankly, I'd just get a new set of chain drive gears from Toyota or Ford and have done with it. Cheers

If yours is a 2L, 4 cylinger engine, it is locate on the drivers ise of the engine or your RH side looking into the engine compartment.. I is underneath the air intake hosing - so they will need to be move out of the way. Follow the upper radiator hose to a hosing on the right side of the engine- the thermostat is in ther. Note this hosing is not metal so be certain not to overtighten or cross thread the mounint hardware.

about the only way to know for sure is to take a sample and use your senses, sight and smell, please dont taste. (LOL) But if you still dont know, you may be able to take the sample to your local department of agriculture. Most states will test the fuel for free. They cannot check for stuff like sugar, if you think you've been sabotaged, but they can check for octane content, water contamination, and if the fuel is too old to run in the car. Unless your from Pennsylvania. They do not monitor fuel quality only quantity. Of course if your from one of the 47 states that do have a fuel quality program, you could ask them to test it. My car wouldn't start one hour after I got gas. It will crank but not turn over - iss this bad gas?

you could check out the fuel injectors to male sure they are not clogged or geta fuel injector cleaner, if that doesn't help then check the spark plugs and timing. also a bad catalytic converter might be to blame.

Depending on what fuse, but on the left side of the dash, when you open the driver door, is a lift off panel that will expose your fuses.

There are a couple of reasons why a 1999 Ford Contour may misfire. The spark plugs may need changed or the coil pack may be bad.

There is no carb on a contour. All contours were fuel injected, so the fuel and air is mixed in the engine, the carb is not needed.

Just took my 1998 Contour SE to the dealer for the same problem.. apparently there is a short, two wire rubbing together. This is costing me about $300 + tax, to replace a $33 fuse and repair the wiring. also check underneath the wiper casing mine caught fire

I'm not sure about the dash, but for the taillights you need to open the trunk and remove the plastic fasterners that hold the lining up(the fasteners are roughly behind the taillights) Once the lining is pulled down you just need to twist the plastic piece holding the bulb(turn it to the left) and pull it out. Replace the bulb with a #1157 bulb found at any auto parts store.

If both you dash and break lights are out, you probably have a blown fuse, I would check these before I changed any bulbs.

also u can check the wire on the driver side under the hood theres a red wire that's for the dashlights and tail lights mine caught fire and knocked it all out its part of the harness it runs up the wiper wire

If you look right above where you head lights are there are some star screws and a level.Make sure you are on level ground the adjust the screws to where the level says level and you should be good. Hope that helps Jill

position number one piston at tdc on the compression stroke, match up timing marks on all 3 timing belt pulleys with their respective stationary alignment marks, for the 2 cam pulleys they are notches on the rear timing belt cover, and the mark for the crankshaft pulley is on the oil pump housing. loosen locknut on belt tensioner and using an Allen wrench turn it clockwise for belt clearance and temporarily tighten to hold it in place. align white marks on new belt with punch marks on all 3 pulleys, if there is an arrow on the belt it should face out. loosen locking nut on tensioner while holding tensioner in place with Allen, place a 0.0138 in. feeler guage adjacent to the tensioner pulley and slowly turn crankshaft clockwise until guage is between belt and pulley, then holding the tensioner steady with Allen, tighten locking nut. turn crankshaft to remove feeler. return number one piston to tdc. check deflection in belt by applying 22 lbs of force midway between camshaft pulleys, the belt should deflect 0.512 to 0.571 inch. readjust if necessary.

If you look at the EGR Control Valve (The circular thing with the skinny vaccuum line), it is underneath that and a bit to the left (if you are facing the car dead on from the front. You will have to move the thick hose that comes off the air intake, it's just a screw clamp. It will be have an electrical connector and vaccuum lines. It looks like the rest of the engine on my dad's car, I just did his tonight, but if it has already been replaced it might be black.

Had same problem in my 2000 contour. The problem was with a bad wire on my fuel pump. Every time i turned a sharp corner car would stall. I replaced fuel pump and no probs since.
