you can start by buying from any automotive parts store an user/repair manual for about $20. Haynes is a good brand manual, and it has almost everything you need for your contour. I replaced my belts, and you need to take everything off the engine, the air intake, the engine mount on the top passenger, the belt cover, the main surpintine belt, the pulleys, the alternator, its a mess of a job, remember how you took it all off, so you can put it all back on, and mark on the cranshaft where you took the belt off, so you can put the new one in the same location, this is not an easy do it yourself job, if its not something you have done before. I spent the better part of my Saturday taking the car apart. Buy the repair manual, it will have pictures, and step by step instructions, better than I can describe on here. Good luck, and have fun.

in order to take the mirrow off first you have to open the door and on the front of the inside door where the mirrow is there's a screw remove it and remove the plastic housing which is held down by the screw then you should be able to see the electrical plug which operates the mirrow disconnect it by pulling out the retainer clip also you should be able to see three more screws these hold the mirrow in place unscrew them now you should be able to pull the mirrow out from the outside. hope this helps. butkus.

Ford uses a transponder-type Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) integrated into the car's computer. The computer uses an antenna coil around the ignition key cylinder to detect an electronic transponder chip (not a simple resistor) molded into the plastic head of the key. There is no way to disconnect it. It can be bypassed in any of several ways, ranging from crude to sophisticated.

Probably the simplest way to bypass the system is to remove the steering column shroud, remove the antenna coil from around the key cylinder, and affix a spare key to it in such a way that it will allow the car to be started with a non-transponder key. This rather crude technique has a number of drawbacks, not the least of which is, it is not always 100% successful.

Some companies that sell remote starter systems manufacture and sell electronic devices that will give a little more refinement to this method. They still use a spare key that has a transponder chip inside it, though: there is no way to avoid this.

If you are looking at the underside of the car it is more towards the back/middle of the car than the oil drain plug. You can often check out a book from the library on your type of car with photos and everything you need to know. Actually I was wrong the drain plug is more under the driver side of the engine... As to how hard it is, well, it depends what you could possibly want to do to it. Unlike some Mustang's, removing the runner on the Duratec offers no benefit to high end performance, while reducing low end torque.

It's on the bottom of the transmission. If you remove the transmission pan, it'll be there. Make sure you have a large enough catch pan under the transmission to catch all the fluid when you loosen the bolts!

When you buy the new filter, it should come with a new gasket for the pan. If it doesn't, make sure you get one.

you can change the fluid, but not the filter. drain the fluid from the drain plug on the bottom of the transmission and refill from the dipstick. the filter is only accessable by overhauling the transmission

Depends on the model - if it's the 4 cylinder the main fuse block is under the hood on the drivers' side. It's black with a black plastic lid and a white diagram inside showing the purpose, amperage, and location of each fuse. These are plug in (also known as spade type) fuses and are readily available at your local auto parts store off the rack. Check with your local mechanic if you have to.
