I just finished replacing the front cat on my 2002 3.0L escape. It took me about 4 hours. Part of that time was driving to the store two bolts and for a new O2 sensor (peace of mind).

First you need to remove the bottom plastic engine covers, both sides. Disconnect the battery. This will reset the computer and remove the "check engine light". Next to make room for your hands and tools, you need to remove the radiator. I know it sucks, but you just can't get tools in with it there.

Drain the radiator and disconnect all the hoses and electrical connections. I plugged the transmission coolant hose with a golf tee. Pull the radiator out. This will take the most time of the whole project.

You can now gain access to the 6 nuts that need to be removed from the block. Use a 13 mm deep socket to remove them. You will need to remove the top O2 sensor to gain access to one of the nuts.

With those out, remove the two nuts holding the cat on the exhaust. This is on the bottom of the cat. You will be able to remove the cat as this time. Remove the old gasket on the block.

Reassemble in reverse order.

Cost: I bought a BOSAL front catalytic converter on line for $311 at RockAuto. The price ranged from $1200 (repair shop est) to about $450 local auto parts shop. Gasket cost about $7. You will need antifreeze and maybe two bolts($2 Home Depot) to bolt on to the exhaust.(my Bosal didn't include them)

Not hard, but does take some time. Radiator removal does take the majority of time. If your code was a p0430, then the O2 sensors should be good. The sensors run about $45 each if you want to replace them anyhow.

Ford Motor Company reports that the company's switch from recommending 5W-30 viscosity motor oil to 5W-20 viscosity motor oil has saved 700 million gallons of gasoline since 2001. By reducing load and internal friction, lighter viscosity 5W-20 motor oils reportedly increase fuel economy by a half mile per gallon. In addition, Ford reports its use of 5W-20 oils has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by about one million metric tons a year. AMSOIL Synthetic 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil (ASM) and XL 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil (XLM) deliver outstanding fuel efficiency and superior wear protection over competing synthetic and conventional motor oils.

Ford Motor Company recently extended its recommended motor oil change interval from 5,000 to 7,500 miles under normal service conditions. The change applies to select 2007 models and all 2008 models. According to Ford fuels and lubricants engineering supervisor Pete Misangyi, Ford based its decision on the improved quality of engine oils and engines. "Severe duty was also upped to 5,000," said Misangyi. "So that one went up from 3,000 as part of the same change." Last year, Ford increased its recommended oil change interval for diesel engines operating under normal service from 7,500 to 10,000 miles.

About 2" but because the rear driveshaft is so short I have seen ppl experience problems with just 2" of lift.

I have a bad sqeak in the front end of my 2001 Escape. I have not found what is causing this issue. But it appears to be something with the power steering. This annoying squeak only happens when I turn the steering. If you find out anything else on this issue it would be a great help.

On a 2005 Ford Escape , with the 3.0 liter Duratec V6 engine :

The pistons are running in the cylinders of the engine, so when the rpm of the engine rises, the pistons quickley build up speed. It is this rapid acceleration of the pistons that casue the car to shake.

Cylinder misfire. Possibly failed or failing engine mounts.

may be able to take the inside door panel off without damageing it. May be able to roll the window down and see the lock and use a hanger or similar to unlatch it.

Remove inner door panel for access

Some parts stores will scan your vehicle for free. Advance auto for one.
