How do you replace the heater core on a 1988 Ford Thunderbird?

it is alot of work. you will have to empty your a/c system as well so if you have working a/c it will have to be recharged when you are done. 1)discharge refrigerant gas. 2) dissconnct the negative battery cable. 2)drain the radiator. 3)remove the dash. 4)disconnect the a/c lines going through the firewall.(cap all open ends to keep dirt out). 5)disconnect heater hoses that go through firewall under hood. 6) under hood, remove the screw attaching the air inlet duct and blower housing support brace to the cowel top panel. ( 7)disconnect the black vacuum supply hose from the inline check valve under the hood. 8)disconnect the blower motor wiring. 9)under the hood remove the 2 nuts holding the evaporator case to the dash panel. 10)in passenger area remove the screw attatching the evap. case support bracket to the cowl top panel. 11)remove the nut holding the bracket below the evap. case to dash panelpull evap. case away from dash panel and remove the evap case assembly. 12)remove the 5 screws from the heater core access panel and pull the cover. 13)lift out the heater core and seals from evap. case. its going to be a pain i have a blown heater core in my 88 also ,so i will have to do the same thing.

Install ignition lock 1990 Ford Thunderbird?

This requires the removal of upper and lower covers- 3 phillips screws- on steering colum- tilt the wheel down to remove upper plastic cover. Have key in ignition, look for small pin underside of steering colum, when you find pin push said pin in useing small tool that will push pin all the way in. Move key switch to align pin, (ie) turn key switch, and then the switch will just come out. Slide new one back in, nothing to it. Hard part will be to get plastic covers back in place and screws (3 phillips) to re thread. If you are also changeing ignition switch because of the large amount of play in switch then you must lower steering colum, to access 2 screws to which you won't have the tool to unscrew because it looks like a phillips screw. So if you have access to a cutting wheel make these screws into slotted screws, cut a line in center of screw and remove. You also have to remove plastic cover below colum. You do not have to remove colum all the way just enough to access the two screw, there are 4 nuts holding colum in place, may look hard but this project is simple to others you wil be doing in the future on your 1990 super coupe.

How do you convert your 390 classic car engine that uses regular gas over so it can take unleaded?

The problem with no-lead is higher cylinder head temperatures. Such high temps are known to warp the thin valve stems of lead burning motors. The fix is to remove the cyl. heads and have them rebuilt using the thicker stemed sodium filled valves. This requires drilling out and redoing the valve guides and purchasing all new valves, seals and a VG gasket set.

As such means a valve job any way, you might get away with not doing anything as many have and just do a valve job after ,and if ,the damage occurs.

Just replaced head gaskets on 96 tbird 6-cylinder now you get no fire to plugs but your coil reads 11 volts when cranking engine any sugestions?

Sounds like the coil. The high side of the coil should be 35~70 kilo volts. 11 volts will not jump the spark gap. http://www.marksatterfield.com
