Can you play a double layer DVD in any DVD player?
Unless you have an old, old DVD player, most likely you'll be just fine, since most commercial DVD's on the market are double layer disks. Give it a try. If it doesn't, then it doesn't, but I'd be willing to bet a donut that it will.
Can you fix power surge damage?
The simple answer is "Yes", but that answer also depends on exactly what happened to the hardware at the time of the power surge.
In many cases, replacing the power supply might be enough to bring everything else back up. However, if the surge was enough to send power beyond the breakers in the power supply, then the extra power might have gone through the devices connected to the supply, including the main system board, hard drives, etc.

Why are you getting a poor picture with an HDMI connection?
There are several possibilities. One is a bad HDMI cable and the the second is possibly the HDMI connector on the TV/DVD player end is loose.
Other possible causes are that a lot of TV's use a separate HDMI input module and those will frequently go bad. That will require a replacement.
Another possibility (especially on some model Samsung sets where the HDMI cable plugs in, is that the HDMI connector in the TV actually breaks itself loose from the circuit board. That too, will require a replacement "main board" in the TV. Big if you don't have an extended warranty plan.
How do you fix a broken Mazda Miata power antenna?
This answer is applicable to all Miatas from 1990-2005. The power antenna is controlled by a motor that pushes and pulles a nylon, ribbed "cord". It is common that the nubs on the rope will wear down so the motor can't grab it.
You need to determine if the actual motor is broken, or if just the mast is broken.
Look very closely at the black, plastic ring around the antenna. You will see two small holes. The ring is simply screwed in, but you'll need to purchase some cheap, snap-ring pliers (about $7 USD) to remove it. This will allow you to remove the entire trim ring and work.
If you only need to change the mastOnce the ring is off, power the radio on, so the motor is "pushing" the antenna up. You can then pull up on the mast and pull the hole antenna out, including the nylon cord.
There is a metal sheath around the base of the antenna. You'll need to remove this and replace it on your new antenna.
Stick the new antenna with nylon cord into the antenna hole. Have a friend turn off the radio, while you gently bob the antenna cord, to "fish" for the power antenna's gear. This may take a few tries. Be prepared to carefully install the mast once you find it's pulling!
Once it is in, replace the trim ring.

What is the difference between electronic band and subband in solid state physics?
When energy is quantized, each of the levels corresponds to one band. But each level can depend upon the total velocity or position. If one energy level depends on each of coordinates, each coordinate can give a contribution to the total energy. This represents a subband.
How long can an optical audio cable be?
I'm a theatre and stage technician who primary works in the area of sound design. We commonly use optical cables in the theatre to send as many as 8 full audio streams at a time down the line using something known as ADAT. While professional optical cables are identical to consumer cables, except that they're often much less expensive, they are sometimes used in runs that can go extremely far, as much as 100 feet or more. That said, the technical specification from Toshiba, who invented the cables, is 32.8 feet.
Can you convert a 308 rifle to a 338 rifle?
Rifles can be rechambered, if the rounds are the same caliber. You'd do this to change cartridges of the same caliber. Rifles can also be rebarreled. You'd do this to change calibers and cartridges. You can also replace the action in a rifle to change the action length. The cost of rebarreling(new caliber and cartridge) and replacing the action(new action length) would be prohibitive. It would be cheaper and easier to sell the 308 and buy a 338 magnum.
Do HD DVDs only play on HD DVD players or PS3s?
Let me elaborate a little more than a simple "yes". HD DVDs will, as of November, 2007, only play on a device that has the "HD DVD" logo somewhere on the device. Currently, Toshiba is the biggest manufacturer of HD DVD players; also, the XBOX 360 has a separate, external HD DVD drive that can be purchased for around $180.
PS3s will NOT play HD DVDs. The PS3 is made by Sony, which is devoted to the main competing high definition format to HD DVD, and that is BLU RAY. Unlike the XBOX, the PS3 comes with the Blu-Ray player already installed. Just as Blu-Ray players will not play HD DVDs, the same goes for HD DVD players; they won't play BLU-Ray disks. However, the comany LG has released a dual-format player on the market which will play both HD DVDs and Blu-Rays, and Samsung plans to release their new dual-format players by January of 2008. The LG and Samsung players will each cost around $1000.
One more thing: Both Blu-Ray and HD DVD players WILL play standard DVDs and use an "upconvert" feature to polish the appearance of your standard definition movies so they look almost as good as High definition movies. Music CDs can also be played in MOST high definition players, at least the newer ones. Check with the retailer or manufacturer if CD playback is really important to you.
Does a television picture tube emit noxious chemicals when failing?
No. A Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) is a sealed glass tube that is evacuted during manufacture to insure that a vacumn exists inside. So no fumes can be emitted by one. If some of the high voltage is arcing you may smell ozone, but a CRT is sealed and essentially a vacuum. On the other hand, if other components are failing they can certainly smell bad.
What is an outdated computer worth?
The question here is very vague. An outdated computer could be a computer that you could buy today... However I assume this question is targeted towards a computer that is a few years old in which case the value of the computer is based off of the hardware. Generally if you paid a few thousand dollars for the unit 5 years ago it may have some worth but not to much as you can buy a new computer for 200-300 dollars. But once again without the hardware makeup it is hard to say its actual worth.
As technology continues to advance at such a rapid rate. Most computers are generally outdated in a matter of 3 years. After 3 years, your computer is worth zero to most resellers or buyers. Your best option is to take it to electronics recycling place and recoup $5-$20 depending on how much you are recycling. Or try to sell any individual components or upgrades that may still hold some value.
It can be a "cold solder connection", a flaky switch, a dirty connector somewhere or a transistor can be getting ready to fail.
Where is the antenna in your car?
If you do not see an external antenna, then it is in either the front or rear windshield. Look closely and you will see the tiny wires that make up the antenna.
