How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1989 Honda CRX?

Suck on itok, the thermo is not that hard to change, i managed to do it on my 87 crx si without issue. The thing that got me was the thermostat is located at the lower radiator hose not the top. Remove the lower rad hose from its engine fitting, undo the two 10mm bolts that hold the thermostat housing into the engine and pull off the thermostat housing. the thermostat will be facing you so just grab and pull. The gasket is usually re-usable and costs 14$ at Canadian tire. Re-attach the gasket to the new thermo and use gasket sealant to put it back in the hole. reattach the thermo housing bolts then open the air valve to bleed the system. Close the air valve once water comes out and refill the rad.

Youve just redone the thermostat

Just a note: I had a buddy who wanted to help. so he tightened the thermostat housing and cracked it. the torque specs for my '90 was 13 ft/lbs or so. It should be around the same for the 89. Just don't reef on the housing bolts.

Hello,

Here is a simple walk-through on replacing the master cylinder on a '90 CRX:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and disable the SRS system (if equipped.) At the top of the clutch pedal, remove the cotter pin and pull the pedal pin out of the yoke.

  2. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the clutch master cylinder and remove the cylinder from the engine compartment.

  3. Disconnect and plug the hydraulic lines from the master cylinder.

  4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system.

How are crx si engine cylinder sleeves removed?

To remove the cylinder sleeves from a CRX Si engine, first, the engine must be disassembled, including removing the cylinder head and other components. Once access to the cylinders is achieved, the sleeves can be pulled out using a sleeve puller or a similar tool, applying even pressure to avoid damage. It's important to heat the block gently to expand the metal, which may help in loosening the sleeves. Finally, ensure all surfaces are clean and free of debris before installing new sleeves.
