Norway, and Finland are the only two of these with are a above the arctic circle. Norway, however, stretches hundreds of miles further north. Ukrain is by far the furthest south.

There was no king of Iceland at the time Leif went on his journey. Iceland was at the time, what can only be described as a federation, which was formally founded when the parliament, the assembly that ruled Iceland at the time, the Alþingi (Althing) was founded in the year 930. The head of the parliament, the lawspeaker had no formal power, and therefore wasn't really the head of state. Iceland had no king and no ruler; Iceland was a commonwealth ruled by no one; ruled by everyone.

Iceland kind of hung neutral in World War II. They did not have any sizable Jewish population ( unlike some of the mainland Scandinavian lands_) the Danish Nuclear scientist Niels Bohr was smuggled out of Denmark in an RAF bomber during the war.I do not think Iceland was DIRECTLY affected by the Holocaust, unless this was a local nickname for a volcanic eruption- indeed a real hazard in the (Outlaw) regions of this frigid but internally warm, country.

Going due west from Ireland you cross the Atlantic and there is nothing there until you reach Canada, not even Reykjavik. Even by air, which would have a route further north, would still not cross Reykjavik. So there are no cities between Ireland and Canada.

Strictly speaking, Scandinavia only refers to Norway and Sweden because Denmark, Finland and Iceland are not on the Peninsula. However, Iceland and Denmark are considered Scandinavian because they are culturally, linguistically and ethnically Scandinavian. Finland has more Russian history than Scandinavian, but is also considered Scandinavian due to the fact that they are in a region called Fennoscandia (Fenno-Scandinavia), which is Norway, Sweden and Finland.

As a result, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland (Faroe Islands too, since Denmark governs them) are all a part of Scandinavia.
