What were some of James K. Polk failures as president?
He settled for less than 54-40 for the Oregon boundary, contrary to his campaign slogan of "54-40 or fight." This might not be considered a failure, since he avoided war with Britain and made what seems a reasonable compromise. Many have found fault with the war with Mexico, as being a war of aggression, but few call it a failure.

Who are Kalna and Ilmuth in the literature on UFO incidents?
The previous answer contains some mistakes. I will set the record straight.
In "Flying Saucers Have Landed" (1953), George Adamski related encountering a gentleman from a flying saucer who described himself as from planet Venus and who was very concerned about our nuclear-bomb tests.
In "Inside the Spaceships" (1955), Adamski described his return and names him Orthon, and does likewise for some other Space People. Orthon of Venus is accompanied by two other Space Brothers, Firkon of Mars and Ramu of Saturn, and they go in their saucer scoutship to their mothership. Adamski meets several others of both sexes, including Space Sisters Kalna of Venus and Ilmuth of Mars. Those two women wore flowing pastel-colored ankle-length dresses with broad jeweled belts, though they changed into jumpsuits for such work as pilot duty.
They didn't go to Venus, though they did go to the far side of the Moon, where they saw mountains and trees and lakes and a small animal scurrying by. They also expounded on their beliefs, a mixture of quasi-Christian and New-Age ones. Jesus Christ was one of them, and they did not fear death because they expect to be reincarnated.
But UFOlogist Desmond Leslie wrote in a foreword to "Inside the Spaceships" about what the planets are like that "really the only way to be quite sure is for us to travel to the other planets for ourselves and find out firsthand." The United States and the Soviet Union started doing that by automated-spacecraft proxy in the last years of Adamski's life, and what they discovered was most embarrassing for Adamski's claimed journeys. The Moon's far side is much like its near side. Venus is a hellhole of a planet, and Kalna and Orthon would get quickly fried to a crisp. Mars is a cold, dusty, rocky desert with very thin air, and Ilmuth and Firkon wouldn't last long there either. It's not surprising that later contactees, like Billy Meier, have claimed to be contacted by people from outside our Solar System.
Why did Osama bin Laden declare a holy war on the United States?
Although he claimed that it was the domination of the world's economy and resources by the US and the West, the real reason was that the US represented a secular society. He saw that the political influence of the US had a greater impact than the spread of Islam, even financed by oil-rich countries like his native Saudi Arabia. In a pluralistic culture, theocracies such as Iran lose the support of their people.

Is civil disobedience ever a justified form of political participation?
The bearing of personal, political, and religious convictions against state and social coercion is a fundamental and natural human right. By definition civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance are inherently forms of political participation because they force action and due process on those of conviction. One of the primary objectives of civil disobedience and nonviolence is can compel society and the oppressing parties into a mirror capturing the injustice of their actions. These were precisely the reasonings behind Gandhi and Martin Luther King's movements. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson wrote on numerous occasions that citizenry have the moral duty to disobey illegal laws, forming a core political ideology behind the American Revolution and American political philosophy. Lastly, civil disobedience took on deeper connotations as a result of the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal. It was concluded that following illegal orders is not a valid defence. The implication there is that government officers, servicemen, and citizens have a duty and right to defy illegal orders.
