What are some similarities between hinduism and islam?
Similarities Between Hinduism and Islam:
The Islamic scientist and mathematician al-khowarizmi is credited with coining what word?
Al-jabr - the Arabic phrase we Anglicise to Algebra. He didn't invent the word itself, but the use of it.
The subcontinent was divided into separate countries by religion.
India was formed from the areas where the majority of the population was Hindu.
Pakistan (and West Pakistan, later Bangladesh) was designated as a Muslim nation, and many Muslims from India relocated there. Some were compelled by violence to do so. Concurrently, many Hindus who lived in Pakistan also fled across the border to the new Indian nation.
The independence of the region was acknowledged by the Indian Independence Act of 1947, ending British rule of the region. Areas where the majority of residents were considered Muslims were incorporated into East and West Pakistan, separated completely by the intervening Hindu majority areas (India). In 1971, West Pakistan gained independence as Bangladesh.
Conflicts and territorial disputes continued into the 21st Century between the neighboring countries. This was worrisome as both India and Pakistan became nuclear powers.
Modern India
Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims live peacefully together in Delhi, for example, and this is primarily because most Hindus are peace-loving people who will go to any length not to fight. It is very difficult to fight someone who simply will not fight you for any reason. Also, Muslims follow the Koran very closely, and there is nothing in their book which says anything about the Hindu religion.
What is forbidden in Islamic art?
Nudity mostly. But it is a gray area. Some say all life forms are forbidden, others say that it is ok as long as it is not respected as the Qura'an or as if they are worshiped.

Mohamed told his wife not to make a pillow with a representation of a bird on it because to do so would be competing with God. By strictest interpretation, Muslims are forbidden to represent any life in art; people, animals, or even plants, although it is has been observed with varying degrees of strictness from country to country. One benefit of this rule is the ornate geometric patterns seen in Muslim art, because depicting life is forbidden.
What are the similarities between Christianity Islam and Hinduism?
3 major religons, Islam, Christianity and Judaism all preached the same concept of One god. However they later got distorted by the rulers and corrupt priests. However Islam is different as its Gods miracle to keep the Noble Koran/Quran unchanged to this day. Even if all the copies of Quran were drowned in a sea, it can be re written from scratch in the clone copy of when it was revealed - as another miracle is that God keeps in memorised in millions of peoples minds.
Jesus never told his followers that they were Christians, only decades later they were given this name! Moses didn't tell his followers that they were Jews, its only a hundred years later they were called this! They all practised Islam - and submitted to the One true God. Hence even Abraham was a muslim and Noah and all other prophets.
Its best for you to study all 3 religons and hopefully with logic you will understand the one that has NO contradiction, the Quran is a book of signs and is definately worth a read.
Peace to you
What are the main celebrations of Islam?
There are two Muslim feasts: Eid-al-Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice, which is celebrated during the Hajj, and Eid-al-Fitr, the Feast of Breaking the Fast, which comes immediately after the end of Ramadan.
How do Muslims treat the environment?
Muslims are required by Islam religion to take care of the environment, maintain its cleanliness, and not to spoil the land, water, and air. Muslims are required to be kind to animals. They are required not to cut a tree and required to spread green area.
Quran says:
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ قَالُوا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ ﴿١١﴾
(Meaning English translation):
"... Do not cause corruption on the earth, ..." [Quran, chapter 2, verse 11]
and says:
"And when he goes away, he strives throughout the land to cause corruption therein and destroy crops and animals. And Allah does not like corruption. (205)"
(Quran, chapter 2, verse 205)
and says:
"That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous. (83)"
(Quran, chapter 28, verse 83)
Muslims are even required to be kind to animals and are forbidden to hurt them.
Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) said: {A woman was punished because she imprisoned a cat until it died. On account of this, she was doomed to Hell. While she imprisoned it, she did not give the cat food or drink, nor did she free it to eat the insects of the earth.}
He also said that a man gave a very thirsty dog a drink, so God forgave his sins for this action. The Prophet was asked, "Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?" He said: {There is a reward for kindness to every living animal or human.}
They explicitly commanded in Quran and taught by prophet Muhammad (PBUH) not to spoil the evironment, water, air, or soild. They are commanded not to cut a tree (at no urgent potential reason) or poison water.
Is the photography prohibited in Islam?
Whilst there is a difference of opinion on the matter of photography, the dominant opinion of the modern Scholars of High Knowledge is that photography is permissible as long as they are of benefit and not for any harmful or prohibited purposes, and that photographs of humans and animals not be displayed. As such, photographs kept in an album, drawer, computer or disk would be considered acceptable. However, photographs of humans and animals should not be displayed on walls and the like. In other words, simply stated, they are not to be left open for display. It can be viewed but not left for display on frames on desks and walls, for example.
The Scholars have also mentioned caution on the matter that photography should never be frivolous and indulgent, but for genuinely good reasons. Celebration of a wedding is well known as an Islamic Tradition, and so taking videos and photography would be permissible. Indulgence and frivolous photography/videoing includes the modern trends of the youth to take photos of each other in poses, etc, where there is no real essence other than social posing, and the like.
The additional issue arising is that of indulgence in costs for photography in weddings. That being a separate issues, and problem, does lead to many Scholars frowning upon the indulgence in photography where costs are exuberant. Exuberance is usually defined as what exceeds the norms of a society under normal circumstances.
Finally, the matter is a simple one with complicated issues attached to it. As practical advice, avoid photography and videoing unless there are good reasons for it in terms of promoting good, Islamic events, awareness and the like and either minimise or eliminate it for portraiture and posing.
As is the clear principle in Islamic Juridical Science, all valid differences of opinion on a matter amongst qualified body of Scholars should be respected and what one person therefore follows should do so with his or her own conscience, but never criticising others if they take a different valid opinion.
Insha Allah that is of help

Are Muslim men allowed to dance?
yes they can!
The question is not clear. Of course, people may go out with other people. There is nothing to be asked.
If the question is using "go out with" as a euphemism for dating, as opposed to merely meeting people outside of the home, then there is some discussion to be had. More stringent Muslims believe that dating is not an acceptable practice. Center-line Muslims may date, but will only do so for the purpose of marriage (as opposed to general enjoyment), more lax Muslims date just like anyone else. So, it depends more on the person.
How did religion affect Islamic art?
Muslims are still creating art!
You will see a wide variety of artistic styles often influenced by the styles of neighboring cultures and the pre-Islamic culture of the region. Therefore,a Muslim artist in France will be influenced in ways different from a Muslim artist in Indonesia.
You will indeed see much calligraphic art, often verses from the Qu'ran, because learning the words of this book is important in Islamic culture and religion. This is similar to some Hebrew calligraphic art and is not unlike the Christian custom of putting Bible verses with inspiring images.
You will also see repeating geometric, vegetal or floral elements in much Islamic art, called an arabesque. The arabesque often used to symbolize the transcendent and infinite nature of God. Mistakes in repetitions may be intentionally included as a show of humility by artists who believe that only God can produce perfection, similar to such mistakes seen in the repeating patterns of Amish quilts.
What you will rarely see is a representation of the human form, which many Muslims consider to be idolatry.

What do Muslims do when someone dies?
They wash his body. Wrap it in three new white sheets of cloth, offer Death Prayer and request Almighty God to forgive his sins and be Merciful to Him. Then they bury the body in a grave. His relatives pray to Almighty Allah to forgive him. They may recite holy Qur'an and do charity for the salvation of the departed soul. Crying and beating chest is prohibited in Islam, yet one may weep silently. Feelings of grief are common to humane humans. It is better to be patient.
Is it possible to be arrested in France for wearing a hijab since the law came into place?
No of course not! There isn't actually a law against wearing hijab in France. However there is a law that bans all religious symbols from schools. This includes Jewish Kippahs, Sikh turbans large Christian crosses..and Muslim hijab. If a girl wears hijab in school she won't be arrested. She will just not be able to attend. She is then excluded from school after a process of 'mediation'. Muslim girls can attend private schools.

Why do Muslims face one direction when praying?
During praying, Muslims face the direction of Kaaba (if close to it or if residing in Mecca city) or the direction of Mecca (Makkah) city that is currently located in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia (if located outside Mecca) or the direction of Saudi Arabia (if located much far away from Saudi Arabia).
My textbook is in front of me, and one of the Fiver Pillars of Muslim is Prayer. In the pillar of Prayer it says "five times a day, Muslims face toward Mecca to pray."
Should take the direction of Makkah (or Mecca) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Sunita Williams (born September 19, 1965 in Euclid, Ohio) is a United States Naval officer and a NASA astronaut. She was assigned to the International Space Station as a member of Expedition 14 and then joined Expedition 15. Williams is the second woman of Indian heritage to have been selected by NASA for a space mission after Kalpana Chawla and the second astronaut of Slovenian heritage after Ronald M. Sega. She holds three records for female space travelers: longest spaceflight (195 days), number of space walks (four), and total time spent on spacewalks (29 hours and 17 minutes).
She is married to Michael J. Williams, she is Indian-Slovenian American and has a pet Jack Russell Terrier named Gorby. Her recreational interests include running, swimming, biking, triathlons, windsurfing, snowboarding and bow hunting. She is an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Her parents are Deepak Pandya and Bonnie Pandya, who reside in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Dr. Deepak Pandya is a famous neuroanatomist. Williams' roots on her father's side go back to Gujarat in India and she has been to India to visit her father's family. She is of Slovenian descent from her mother's side.
Among the personal items Williams took with her to the International Space Station (ISS) are a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, a small figurine of Ganesha and some samosas.
After launching aboard Discovery, Williams arranged to donate her pony tail to Locks of Love. The haircut by fellow astronaut Joan Higginbotham occurred aboard the International Space Station and the ponytail was brought back to earth with the STS-116 crew.
In early March 2007 she received a tube of wasabi in a Progress spacecraft resupply mission in response to her request for more spicy food. Opening the tube, which was packaged at one atmospheric pressure, the gel-like paste was forced out in the lower-pressure of the ISS. In the free-fall environment, the spicy geyser was difficult to contain.
On April 16, 2007, she ran the first marathon by an astronaut in orbit. Williams finished the Boston Marathon in four hours and 24 minutes . The other crew members reportedly cheered her on and gave her oranges during the race. Williams' sister, Dina Pandya, and fellow astronaut Karen L. Nyberg ran the marathon on Earth, and Williams received updates on their progress from Mission Control.
Like many of the other astronauts and cosmonauts she is a licensed amateur radio operator having passed the technician class license exam in 2001 and was issued the call sign KD5PLB by the Federal Communications Commission on 13 Aug 2001.

How many Muslims are there in New Zealand?

What does Islam say about war?
Like Christianity, Islam permits fighting in self-defense, in defense of religion, or on the part of those who have been expelled forcibly from their homes. It lays down strict rules of combat that include prohibitions against harming civilians and against destroying crops, trees and livestock. As Muslims see it, injustice would be triumphant in the world if good people were not prepared to risk their lives in a righteous cause. One reads in the Qur'an: "Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not transgress limits. God does not love transgressors." (Qur'an 2:190) "If they seek peace, then you seek peace. And trust in God for He is the One that hears and konws all things." (Qur'an 8:61) War is therefore the last resort, and is subject to the rigorous conditions laid down by the sacred law. The often misunderstood and overused term jihad literally means "struggle" and not "holy war" (a term not found anywhere in the Qur'an). Jihad, as an Islamic concept, can be on a personal level - inner struggle against evil within oneself; struggle for decency and goodness on the social level; and struggle on the battlefield, if and when necessary. The term Holy War was never mentioned in The Quran. For further explanation see:
"What are the ethics of war in Islam?"
What are some Islamic words that begin with the letter o?
Islam is a religion not a language. Muslims; who are the followers of Islam religion; are spread all over the world and speak their home country languages. The language of Quran revelation by Allah (God in English and same God in Judaism and Christianity) to prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel (or Jibril) was in Arabic language (not in English).
More importantly, perhaps, no language (other than English) uses the "x" as a "ks" sound if it is used at all. Therefore, "Islamic Words" which would primarily come from Arabic would not have "x"s in them.
Punishment for listening to music after death Islamic?
Music in Islam is forbidden, and there are many quranic ayahs to show that Allah highly dislikes music. The one who listened to music in this world shall have hot metal poured into his/her ears. We should refrain from listening to music as it diverts us away from the rememberance of Allah. May Allah guide us and protect us from such fitna, Ameeb. :)
What country is islam located?
Islam is not restricted to any particular area. It is a universal Religion spread over the whole world. But Asia and Africa have more number of Muslims than other parts of the world.
What was the reason of the martial domination of Muslims in India?
Social Factors:
The reasons for the Muslims' martial prowess in India can be explained on the basis of the social system of the conquerors and the conquered. The Hindu social system was based on the caste system; while the Muslims were united, socially and spiritually, as one unit. The sectarian system of Hindu community made them prone to disputes and internal controversies, which is fatal for a nation.
Organization of Military:
Another reason was the organization of army of Muslims. In the Hindu kingdoms, the forces were not fully under the control of the Rajah but were relayed to him by nobles from the whole kingdom. On the other hand, the Muslim army of a specific ruler was under his command only and united as a single unit. The very same reason caused the victory of Alexander of Macedonia in India.
Beliefs of the conquerors:
One of the major factors was the Muslims' set of beliefs. They were somewhat fanatic and their religion made them ruthless and effective. They only saw two ends: Glory of Victory, or Glory of Death. It was their basic belief that a Ghazi i.e. a slayer of infidels, If killed himself, will go directly to the paradise and also gain fame as a martyr ("How will you defeat an enemy that looks at your blade and sees the reflection of paradise in it?") The courage of the Muslim hordes was also enhanced by the fact that there was no retreat possible for them. They had to dominate or perish trying.
Suitable Incentives:
The presence of uncountable riches and luxury was one of the greatest stimulants for their desire to rule the subcontinent. Ironically, these luxurious surroundings later made them lethargic and slothful, thus rendering them ineffective in the battle field.
Strategic expertise:
The most important reason for the dominance of Muslims was the fact that their strategies and tactics were far superior to the Hindu armies. They were capable of fighting in small bands and employing shock tactics. The cavalry of Muslims was a cut above the Hindu cavalry. The Hindus placed an excessive emphasis on the use of elephants, which was quite handy against the infantry, was quite useless in front of boldly directed cavalry charges.
Nutritional differences:
From a nutritional point of view, it can be said that the flesh-based diet of Muslims provided them far greater amount of energy and sustenance as compared to the strictly vegetarian diet of the orthodox Hindus.
These were the reasons due to which the Muslims, sparse as they were, dominated the millions of natives and kept them under their dominion for centuries.
