What is the age and value of a JC Higgins shotgun?

The J.C. Higgins trade name was used by Sears, Roebuck & Company of Chicago from 1946 to 1962 on firearms and other sporting goods.

Arms bearing this tradename were manufactured by a variety of American gunmakers.

The 16 gauge was made by Marlin, the .410 by Harrington & Richardson. The .22 by Savage/Stevens. Assuming all guns are fully functional but not in like-new condition, they are worth about $80, $150, and $100.

583 on a Sears Roebuck gun means it was manufactured by Hi Standard. Bolt action shotguns aren't very popular, so I would say it is worth no more than $100.

A single shot bolt action 20 gauge might be worth around 65-75 dollars in good shape.

According to SearsArchives.com answering "Was J.C. Higgins a real person?":

"As a matter of fact, he was. John Higgins began his career at Sears in 1898. He worked his way up the corporate ladder to take charge of the headquarters office bookkeepers before retiring in 1930. He died in 1950. During discussions of possible brand names for a new line of Sears sporting goods, Higgins name was proposed. He gave his consent and, because he had no middle name, the "C" was added for effect. As far as we can determine, the J.C. Higgins name first appeared on baseballs and gloves in the 1908 catalog." some one is mistaken the 583 code on jc Higgins House brand every one seems to think it means High standard taht is simply not the case all of the JC Higgins guns made buy Sears at that time Sears owned High standard how Ever all ot shotguns 583 1 to 583 12 were made by Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. For Sears /High standard Sears had bought the right to the gun from H&R That is why you will not see the model 10 bolt action in the sears catalog till 1949 The model 10 is even listed by High standard collectors as a High standard model How Ever it was not It was a Sears model sears owned in fact it was one only hand full of orphan guns that are actually real sears guns So back to 583 That originally meant sears and roebuck house brand product made in house all other guns were vender gun and had vender ID 103 meant marlin 101 meant savage /Stevens Vendors sold Sears the same product they sold for them selves with exception that every thing they sold Sears had the Sears name on it But with High standard they were not allowed to sell their shotguns some of there hand guns to any body but Sears Sears controled some of the product it was not until the late 50s and early 60s that high standard ability to sell their own shotguns and 22 rifles Here is Sears answer on old product manuals: http://www.searsarchives.com/products/questions/manuals.htm

What is the age and value of a JC Higgins Model 29 22cal semi-automatic rifle Pat 2552429 number 583.79?

auction priceI just paid 150 for one with a scope, in very good condition

(12/23/09) I just bought one, 95% condition from a local gun store with no scope. $99 + tax. I think I got a great deal, so I'd figure 100 - 150 as a good estimate.

Value of jc higgens model 50 30-6?

I have a JC Higgins model 60 in pristine condition, and it it worth, supposedly, around $150. But, it is a GREAT gun, and to me, worth a whole lot more. It was the first gas-operated semi-auto shotgun on the market, and kicks a lot less than a newer gas-operated Remington semi-auto than I've got. I'll never part with it. Al In good to excellent con . 125 to 200 dollars these guns came out in 1956 and when they first were introduced they were one of the most advanced semi autos out there they are still nice guns and have some value

What is the age and value of a J C Higgins model 45 lever action 30 30 and who was the manufacturer?

I also have a mod. 45, Lever action 30-30. I have the original owners manual but it does not give any clue to these questions. I have been told by a very knowledgeable person that they are somewhat rare, were made by Winchester and pretty valuable. I have not been able to confirm.

AnswerNo, that is incorrect. The JC Higgins Model 45 was originally made by Marlin Firearms, and is a variant of the Marlin Glenfield 30A. Marlin made these guns for Sears during the late 1950's through the early 1960's. I have one made in 1961. A very well-made rifle. They will bring about 15% less than a Marlin 336 from the same period (so, $150-$180).

AnswerMy data converts this gun to a Marlin 336 C and says it was manufactured from late sixties to eighty three or so. I question the dates as the gun appears older. J

What age is a Jc Higgins 1011 12 gauge?

I believe you have a JC Higgins model 101.1 This should be a single shot 12 ga. It was made by Savage as the Savage model 94. They were made between 1926 and 1945

Why won't my bolt action close on a mauser 98 when i have a bullit chambered?

Maybe you are trying to load the wrong cal. bullet! The Mauser is desigend to only feed from the internal magazine. The extractor claw catches the rim of the cartridge as it rides upward from the magazine. If a bullet is in the chamber, the claw of the extractor will not go over the rim of the cartridge thus not letting the bolt not to close. Trying to force the bolt close in this situation will cause damage to the extractor.

Where can you find the year manufactured value or any other information on a JC Higgins model 20 5832004?

It appears that this is a High Standard Flight King (1960-63) or Sport King (1964-73). Blue Book lists the value for this gun with the High Standard name from $100 with 60% original finish up to $156 with 100%. The Sears trade name will deduct about 25% from the value.

Answerwww.histandard.info

Probably in the late 1950's before High Standard made shotugns with the High Stadanrd name. Teh Flite King shotgun did evolve frm the Model 20's and 21's I don't believve there eas a Sport King brabded High Standard shotgun.

How can the value of a j c Higgins 22 cal pellet pisol 12619380 be found?

What is the difference between the 12 gauge JC Higgins Models 583.17 and 583.20?

Good question. The Blue Book Store Brand Cross Over List says the 583.20 is a High Standard Flight King and 583.17 a High Standard but no model name or number is given. A range of Sears ID numbers will often be the same gun sold in a different year, but in this case there is a .18 and .2 between these models and they are Harrington & Richardson guns. I'd still bet that both these guns are the Flight King. actually 583 17 &583 20 Were made by high standard They are the known as the sears model 10 bolt action repeating shotgun the 583 17 was made in 1949 the 583 20 series was made in 1952 both gun are almost identical the 583 20 has some minor improvements in any case both gun are based on the the H&R 120 and have nothing to do whats so ever with High Standard model 200 flighte king pump shotgun

How old and what is the value is a JC Higgins 22 rifle made by sears rusty barrel bolt action Only no 126.19311?

I believe you are asking about a Sears, JC Higgins C02 Air Rifle. If so, it was made by Crosman (model 180) for sears under the JC Higgins name, It has a wood stock. Mfg first in 1956-59 and then again with a die cast trigger housing from 1962-67.

In Prime 100% condition it is worth $180 but from what you say it's more like 20% condition at about $55.

Where can you find information about a 20 gauge JC Higgins Model 583.22?

Your shotgun 583 .22 was made in 1952 by High Standard Manufacturing for Sears. These are very good shotguns it is worth about 100 to 150 dollars depending on condition and who's buying it.

How much for a new stock for a JC Higgins Model 583.13?

These guns have been out of production for many years, and finding NEW stock will be a mtter of luck. Numrich (gunpartscorp) has the .410 stocks (used) for about $70, but is sold out of other gauges. Sorry.
