Why do socks always disappear?

Humorously: Unfortunately the combination of heat and rotation of the dryer drum creates a vortex that allows the socks to be stolen by one-footed aliens from another galaxy. It is a myth that dryers eat socks, as they can't have that much fiber. Another explanation: Because of the evil sock-stealing Gnomes! A sock troll comes into the house at night and steals them from either the sock drawer or the dryer.

Alternate explanation: The dryer opens a time-space distortion similar to that found in women's purses. Like keys in a purse, the socks are kicked forward to next Tuesday, at which time they will re-appear. Since we are more apt to be looking for keys next Tuesday than socks, their return is less often noted, but the fact that lost keys inevitably turn up in the same purse from which they disappeared is proof of the phenomenon.

Factually : They gather static in the dryer and then stick to other items like shirts. If you go through your closet and look inside shirts/pants that were in the dryer, you will find your socks.

You hear a gurgling in your bathroom tub when the washing machine drains or other toilet flushes?

I had this happen to me then eventually my toilet started overflowing the contents of my septic tank. SUCH FUN TO CLEAN! If you on a septic tank and this is happening you may need to have it pumped or have your drain line checked. what happened to me was my drain line was pinched and couldn't disperse my gray water, so my septic filled way too fast and eventually burped. I now use RidX once a month and it keeps the gurgles at bay.

If you are not on a septic system, CALL A PLUMBER ASAP, it could be a back up but having the sewer come back in on you would likely be way worse!

Why exactly do certain liquids stain clothing?

Certain liquids stain because the clothes absorb the entire liquid, and when the stain dries the water evaporates and the dye remains trapped in the clothes. Liquids like coffee or washable ink don't get trapped as far into the clothing as liquids like kool-aid. Other liquids like milk are proteins, once they are heated their chemical structure changes and can get tangled with the fabric. Other

If water does not flow fast enough to fill your gravity feed to the washing machine will increasing the out pipe to three quarters fix the problem?

Increasing the size of the outflow pipe will only help in cases where the outflow pipe is restricting flow. In this case, there does not appear to be any restriction resulting from the size of the outflow pipe. So your answer is: No. Suggestions are: 1) increase the inflow pressure by using a steeper grade angle 2) try using pressurized water storage tank in lieu of gravity feed 3) try increasing the size of the inflow pipe if there are any restrictions to flow on the incoming pipe

How do you remove gum from clothes?

Start by pulling off the biggest pieces. Most material will do okay if you apply an ice cube (or put the clothing in a plastic bag, folded with the gum section UP and not touching the bag and then put the bag in the freezer for 12-24 hours). After freezing, the gum should lift off. Then, wait a few hours so the remaining gum softens and, using a sponge of any type and soap, try washing off the rest of the gum.

How do you get a rusted washing machine hose off the plumbing pipe?

AnswerI just removed the very same thing from my 25 year old washer yesterday, and it was very uneventfull because of a few tricks I use from when I rapaired cars. I'll give you the answer in order: 1 - Hose down each connection thoroughly with Penetrating Oil. I prefer to use the kind that foams and bubbles. Cooking oil can be used with very light heat from a torch or paint strip gun. 2 - Repeat the process 2 more times over about 3 hours. 3 - Get your tool of choice (channel lock, monkey, or Vice Grip) Make sure the grooves of the biting surfaces are clean. 4 - TURN OFF THE WATER!! Most shut offs at the washer are siezed, So turn off the main supply.Open other taps in the line to drain the system at the lowest point. 5 - Wipe the hose fittings with strong soap and water to remove the oil where your tools will be working. 6 - The method to remove a seized, threaded part is only done 1 way, and that is a quick "snap" or pulse from the user. Make sure your tool isn't too tight, crushing the cup and threads. Washing machines typically have plastic (brittle)fittings, and if you apply gradual pressure you risk breaking the plastic. 7 - Ensure you are loosening the coupler, not tightening it. LEFTY LOOSEY ----- RIGHTY TIGHTY Take a moment to consider this when you're not facing the fitting. 8 - All the hoses should come off. 9 - If this doesn't work, apply more Penetration Oil and repeat. 10 - Clean the threads with steel wool or a soapy stiff toothbrush. Use Plumbers'thread Seal tape when installing the new hose, Remember to wrap the tape clockwise or it will unravel. Try to put the new hose on HAND tight - snug and no leaks. Ensure the new hoses are not chaffing against anything, string them up in a sensible way(no kinks)for longer life. Answerget a bigger wrench! AnswerSometimes you have to replace the valve.
