I just replaced this myself on my '90 SC. It's above the gas pedal & a rather large black box (about 2" square) & a pain to remove. I had to order mine from the local ford dealer for about $50, got it popped it right in & the intermittent flashers worked just like they should. It may say hazard unit on it, I can't remember exactly.
Why would the transmission in a 1996 Lincoln continental not shift into overdrive?
I have a 1987 that is doing the same thing.
The computer systems chip is fried. The car runs fine and most everything works.
But, lately, the suspension won't charge while driving and will fault until the car is restarted.
The odometer also does not display mileage, just the word "error" where the reading would be.
My sub-questions to this issue is;
Does this systems chip control the transmission shifting to overdrive?
And the suspension system?
And is it the same performance chip that I see advertised for $69.00?
I recently took thebuzzer box out of my 93 Continental cause it was annoying me with my "Check DCL" light. The box is located just under the steering columb. If you remove the piece of carpeting that is right above your gas and brake pedals. You will see a box off to the right hand side that will have 3 holes in it and a wiring harness with several wires comming out of it. You can disconnect this and that will take care of the buzzer for your "Check Engine" and any other warning lights that come on. It will also disable the buzzer that goes off when you leave your lights on and when your door is ajar. If you do this just make sure to keep a close eye on when you have any warning lights come on.

Can you replace Lincoln Town Car air spring with a coil spring?
Lincoln Town Cars are built on the same platform as the Ford Crown Victoria (the Panther Platform). To convert your Lincoln from air springs to coil springs, simply replace the Lincoln air aprings with the coil springs for a Ford Crown Victoria. (Depending on the ride you want, you can choose to either install the standard coil springs from a civilian-equiped Crown Victoria or you can install the coil springs used on the Police Interceptor version of the Crown Vic.) In addition to the coil springs, you will also need to purchase the rubber insulators to install between the car's frame and the coil spring.
Simply remove your Lincoln's air spring system and install the new rubber insulators and coil springs. Many websites have detailed instructions and most "shade tree" mechanics can do the job themselves. The cost of the parts should cost no more than $125.00.

How do you disconnect the alarm system of a 1997 Lincoln Continental and still have the car turn on?
You may not want to disconnect the alarm system. It is connected to many other area's within the vehicle for thieft protection. If your alarm goes off when the car is not in use at various times during the day then that is another issue. I visited the dealer today and prodded the mechanic with a bunch of questions. The main reason for the alarm to trigger in most cases is the sensor in the trunk lid. You have to take off the covering on the inside of the trunk lid. There should be two wires. One should be for the trunk lid to open electronically the other for the alarm system. (Sorry I don't know which wire is for what function). If it is possible to disconnect one at a time to determine it's functionality, then try that. If you like to take chances, disconnect both wires. The only real problem you would encounter is that you would have to use your key to open the trunk instead of opening it with the FOB. I haven't tried any of this yet but I will be giving it a try real soon. If you choose not to go this route the cost of running dionostics and getting it repaired is about $85 at the dealership.

Can you use regular gas in a 2001 Lincoln Continental?
Don't see why not. I have used regular for years in my 1998 Continental with no problems. The Continentals, like many modern American vehicles, have automatic spark advance that adjusts to the octane rating in the vehicle. At least that is what my manual says. In any event, works fine. More than likely a 2001 is equally able to make the adjustments.
How do you change the ignition coils in your 1999 Discovery II?
there are no ignition coils per say, there is an injector loom under the tappet cover that has connectors going to the injectors. to change that remove the plastic engine cover (3 bolts, 2 on left side 1 on the right). remove the hose from the top of the tappet cover it has a spring clamp. remove 8mm bolts on tappet cover, remove tappet cover and the injector loom is the long plastic harness on the right side. you will have to replace the gasket and seal the half moon at the rear with high temp silicone. sorry i was thinking TD5 engine. there are 4 bolts 8mm bolts attaching the coil to the rear of the engine, they are difficult to access. remove the leads from coil pack, you will have to remove the plenum chamber as well to manouver the coil out.
