How can you change the shift solenoid on your 2003 Lincoln ls?

Drop the transmission pan, then the transmission filter. It should be staring at you. The ls takes 11.9 quarts of trans fluid V6 or v8 (same transmission). Most of the fluid will be in your torque converter so you get about 40% out and then only have to put 4-5 back in. As you know you do not have a Trans dipstick for this car. You will instead need to fill it back up with a small fluid pump. You can search this step on google. Don't forget to change the filter. Might as well you're taking it off any way, plus they come with the transmission pan gasket you need to put the pan back on. Also check your torque specs for the pan, and don't bend it. It's quite a costly woops. Good luck.

Do you have any suggestions regarding the power steering on my 2002 Lincoln LS - it was making a sound so I changed the pump and line but it won't start leaking - any ideas?

I assume you mean that it won't STOP leaking. If the leak is coming from the parts you replaced, then there is a defect, or you cross-threaded or failed to tighten something. But the leak may be coming from the rack (the part between the front wheels that the lines go to). THAT is a major job to replace. It could also be coming from a cracked fluid reservoir.

How many ignition coils does a LS have?

There is an ignition coil connected to the top of each spark plug...so if you have a 6 cylinder motor, you have 6 plugs and 6 coils.

What causes damp passenger floor board on 2000 Lincoln ls?

I would check around windshield for leaks, door frames and the weatherstripping, feel up under dash to see where it`s wet or if wet at all,if not feel how wet it is closer to door, most likely weather stripping and such.Hope it helps. I had the tube for the sun room come disconnected from mine, and everything kept getting wet. What you do is take the o-darn handle off, pull the front pillar cover off, usually a snap fit component, and the seat belt cover (snap fit as well) be careful not to be to agressive. After you pull the roofliner down only on the side you are working on. You should see a small 1/8" tube that is disconnected from a drain barb. hook it up and enjoy a water free environment. Special note. on mine it just seems the hose shrank over time. It may happen again, but at least I put it back on there. It was a bummer in a down pour I could see water coming in the car driving down the road and the front piller was wet.

P0305 , engine cylinder # 5 misfire detected

Why won't 2000 Lincoln ls shift into overdrive?

I'm not a mechanic, but you should check your transmission fluid level first, then take it to someone to check the clutch either automatic or manual.

How do you fix the cylinder head overtemp protection active prob on your 2000 Lincoln ls?

Fix the coolant leak.
Chances are the water pump has a problem. They were known for having a leak and with no coolant you have no cooling.

But you may have a coolant leak elsewhere also. Your cooling system will need to be checked out.

What kind of transmission fluid does a 1996 Lincoln Continental use?

What is A TAILshaft housing for a 2000 Lincoln LS?

Tail shaft housing is the rear end of the transmission where the drive line bolts up. On the Lincoln LS it is also where you fill up the transmission with Mercon V (transmission fluid)

If there is a loud humming noise from beneath the car and have been told this is a wheel bearing problem how do you find out which wheel bearing needs changing and how easy is it to do yourself?

The only way to know for sure is to remove the wheel bearing and carefully inspect the bearing and rac. A humming noise does not sound like a wheel bearing. This sounds more like tire noise. Inspect your tires first. If you are unfamiliar with how to remove, inspect, repack or replace wheel bearing and/or race, purchase for around $12, a repair manual for your car at most auto parts sores.

AnswerIt isn't the wheel bearing at all. If this is happening to you on hard left turns and it is a humming/ breaky-poundy sound (like metal on metal) it is your exhaust. There is a rubber mount for the exhaust to hook onto behind the axel and if it has come undone it will make this sound. The sound also happens with it on sometimes also, its just the exhaust hitting off of the firewall. Try taking it to a muffler specialist and getting it attacted premanently so it can not move. AnswerI bought after market frt wheel brgs for $41 Cdn each side. SPECIAL TOOLS NEEDED: 30mm 12 pt socket 7mm hex Allen key 13mm socket for lower ball joint bolts 18mm socket & wrench for lower strut mount Remove wheels, brake caliper, rotor, splash shield, x3 ball joint bolts. Remove bolt for strut mount. Pull assembly away from CV axle, tap out steering knuckle from strut assy. USE CAUTION WHEN PRESSING BRGS...take to VW dealer for 1 hr labour charge. Make sure you torque axle nuts. AnswerBad tires are noisy, but stay noisy when slightly swerving. A wheel bearing will get quieter when you swerve slightly. A bad left wheel bearing will get quiet when you swerve to the right, & the weight is on that bearing visa-versa for the right side. It may also get quieter on the highway. A bad tire(broken belt) will be noisy, 'till you change the tire. With the car on the ground you can grab the suspected wheel at the top & rock the tire back & forth. A bearing that is bad will feel like the wheel isn't quite bolted on right, a little 'clunking' as you pull back/forth...your VW is going to last, so get a good replacement, quality bearing. Cheap bearings are for someone selling the car, who doesn't care that it will be bad again in 50K. AnswerOMG: good luck with such advice. Case: 1995 Saturn: symptom: humming from front left. Driving Test: Changes pitch and gets louder when forced turns load the wheel...less volume when straight or turning opposite way at speed (45mph or higher speed). On the Lift Test#1 : trans in neutral. with secured wheel and in absence of loose tie rod ends or ball joints, grab wheel and feel for any play. Some will be noted if wheel bearing is worn. It may be only miniscule with this static test. On the Lift Test#2: put your hand on the coil spring and spin the wheel. You will definitely feel vibration in the spring.

Tires are easy to check. Just swap tires or put on a spare on the suspected offending axle. Troubleshootin: logical process of elimination without untested assumptions.

Answer by PayDayBill

Don't just replace the bearing itself. You need to press out the bearing races and replace those as well or you will risk damaging your new bearings. There is an outer bearing as well as an inner bearing - Replace both. It is a good idea that if you replace one side of the axle, you should also do the other side.

A wheel bearing hum is quite distinctive. The rumbling sound will increase in pitch as you increase speed and will decrease as you decelerate. To determine if it is bearing noise or engine noise that you are hearing, while at Highway speed take your foot off the accelerator and carefully shift the transmission into neutral. As the engine idles down, the bearing rumble will not change in pitch and will be consistent with the speed that you are running.

What does LS after signature mean?

L.S. is the abbreviation for the Latinism "locus sigilli", meaning the place reserved for the signatory's unique seal. Most U.S. states have abolished the need for a seal to authenticate the signature. Older documents can be found with a wax wafer melted onto the L.S., impressed with a corporate, government, or private insignia (the seal), perhaps with color-coded ribbons or strings also embedded in the wax under the seal.

How many liters of antifreeze for a 2000 Lincoln ls?

11.9 quarts, whatever that is in liters on 3.9 v-8

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's the engine cooling system capacity for the 3.9 liter V8

(mixing antifreeze with preferably distilled water to have a 50 / 50 mix

would take 5.95 U.S. quarts / or * 5.65 liters * )

If you have the 3.0 liter V6 engine , which has an engine cooling system

capacity of 10.6 liters , to have a 50 / 50 mix you would require * 5.3 liters *

)

What kind of gas should you put in your 2002 Lincoln ls v8?

According to the 2002 Lincoln LS Owner Guide :

Should you drive your 2006 Lincoln ls in D5 or D4?

Normally on a 2006 Lincoln LS you would drive in " D5 "

That allows the transmission to use all 5 gears

If you are in " D4 " the transmission uses the first 4 gears and doesn't use the

overdrive

How the car react when a Cylinder does not work?

The LS is prone to coil failure which leads to a misfire in the affected cylinder. A misfire due to a failing coil usually happens when the engine is warm and under load (low RPMs, accelerating or going uphill). The misfire may feel like a transmission problem because it causes the car to buck and stutter as though the gears were skipping or getting stuck briefly. The worse the misfire gets, the harder it will be to accellerate. Sometimes the misfire condition can be overcome by applying more RPMs or reducing the load on the engine. See my post about the valve cover leaking issues contributing to this issue.
