How much should a brake job cost 4 new pad and 2 front rotors on aMazda protege?
It should be a round 300 dollars. Brake bads for this car are about 20 each and rotors should cost about the same. Plus rotor rotation and replacing calipers. I may be over-shooting the price a tad but that seems about right. Just stay away from Just Brakes, they'll make you think even your tires need replacing...

There are a few reasons why a 1994 Mazda Protege won't start, but does crank. A couple of reasons could be the air flow sensor or a problem in the fuel lines.

Where is the thermostat for the radiator fan on Mazda 323 1985 - 1989?
I believe you are refering to the thermal switch for the electric fan. The switch is located on the bottom tank of the radiator on the driver's side (left-hand drive), just above the drain plug. This switch is a thread-in type with two round prongs where the wires connect. To remove/replace, drain the radiator first, then using a 21 mm socket or wrench, unthreadd the switch from the radiator. There is a second switch which threads into the thermostat housing loacted on the back on the engine head. This switch is part of the emmission control system and also controls the electric fan. Before you remove or replace the radiator switch, disconnect the wire from the thermostat housing switch first, to test the rad switch and electric fan. (I had to do this job just last weekend). Loosen the alternator bolt and lean it forward to relief the tension there. Find the lock bolt on the front end of the assembly (just follow the belts) and you need to unscrew the locking bolt and then unscrew the tensioniner....it's near impossible to explain this without pictures.

If you open the fuse panel (to the left under the steering wheel), is is the upper most left fuse. It's a yellow one (20), but it also controls your stop lights so be careful. Hope that helps!

that could be almost anything. perhaps vacuum leak ,an egr valve stuck open,bad fule pressure regulator,ect.
A vacuum leak will usually cause it to idle fast. If the check engine light is on it may be the IAC motor which stands for Idle Air Control. Or the TPS or Throttle Position Sensor

of course you do!, a standard transmission is just like any other, depending on the driver, a standard may require more frequent draining (grinding gears) which comes out as metal shavings making transmission oil look silvery,
to change it there is a drain plug on the bottom but no pan, drain it then on the side there is another larger plug to fill, fill until it barely trickles out and seal, DO NOT overfill

How do you replace a wter pump on a 2003 Mazda Protege 5?
Well, to replace the timing belt on these things is a pain! so prices usually go up into 800 bucks. The water pump is right in between that.
You have to take off the following
-valve cover
-both drive belts
-timing cover
-drain coolant
Once you take off the timing cover(black plastic along side of engine) you'll see the timing belt and youll see the water pump from there there should be just bolts that you take off.
Once off, replace it along with the gasket screwing the bolts opposite to each other. I think you can run the engine without the timing cover back on not sure so you can see if there are any leaks. once you put it on everything just placed in reverse order

It means there is something wrong. I have not been able to get a reason yet but will post when I find out. If you restart your car it will go back to normal.

This question can refer to emergency engine shut down or standard ignition turn-off procedures. If the vehicle has to be shut-off while driving or while parked it can be accomplished by turning the ignition to the off position. How many miles should a Mazda Protege get?
Well my 2002 Protege lx is at 187,000 miles & still going. I feel that I could easily get 200,000-250,000....possibly up to 300,000. I have had to replace some parts this year for pretty much the 1st time since I 1st bought it new. Did the EGR,all 4fuel injectors,warm-up CAT,1 coil set,radiator, & water pump. It was worth it though. It still gets amazing gas mileage. A/C still works great, haven't done shocks/struts yet but is needed,power steering pump leaks so I will be doing that soon also. Other than every few yeasr doing motor mounts & 2 times on timing belt it has been pretty good on repairs. I always keep up on oil/trans fluid/radiator flushes/power steering flushes. Tune ups are a must to keep her smooth(every couple years). The over drive button & cruise control stopped working a few years ago along with my back door auto-locks. Doesn't really affect the functionality of my car though. It is a great car that I have enjoyed since the day I got it. Highly recommended!
