How do you change the odometer reading if you change the instrument cluster?

It is against the law for you to change the odometer reading. Ask the State Police (Highway Patrol) in your area what the procedure is. Be careful, there's something like a $10,000 fine for changing one.

----It is only illegal if the car is less than 10 years old and only if it is done with the intent of misleading someone to the actual mileage of the car. If you are changing the mileage on a replacement instrument panel to accurately show the actual mileage, it is perfectly legal.

As to how to do it? There are some videos on you tube that show how.

How do you replace the digital odometer light bulb on a '99 Saturn SL2?

THE ODOMETER IS BACK LIT. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND REPLACE THE BULB. IT INVOLVES REMOVING THE DASH COVER.

A dealer would charge a little over a hundred dollars. The light bulb would cost about $5.

My Saturn dealer told me it is $160.00 to change, because of dash removal, (as of 1/15/06) and most people wait until multiple lights go out. It can still be seen with a flashlight when needed.

How do you change odometer from kilometers to miles dodge caravan?

in any vehicle the odometer itself will always remain constant. What you need to aquire is either one of two things. There are after market dials that you retro fit to the dial so that the odometer is also now pointing to miles per hour. The other way is to know what the kilometers per hour are in mph. For example, 50 kph is roughly 30 mph, 96 kph is 60mph.

How do you measure meters using your car odometer?

If your car odo uses a metric odo, then the last digit of the trip odo will most likely be in 1/10 of a kilometer = 100 meters. So watch the last digit while driving fairly slowly and count the numbers.

How do you correct odometer?

Depends on what you want to do, and what type it is.

If you've changed wheel size or gearing, and wants the odo to measure correctly, you need to have it calibrated. If it's a mechanical unit, this means that you'll have to change a tiny cogwheel somewhere to one with another tooth count. If it's an electronic odo, you need to use a gadget called a pulse divider, which is quite tricky.

If it's an electronic one, and you've replaced the instrument cluster, and/or the odo, and want the new one to display properly, an authorized dealer workshop should be able to reprogram it for you.

If it's a mechanical one it'll basically have to be disassembled and reassembled to matche the old number, although really old versions can be manipulated by spinning the odo cable with an electric drill.

If you're looking to remove a few miles to get a better price when selling the car - well, that's illegal.

Do Korean odometers measure miles or kilometers?

The odometer being Korean has nothing to do with anything. Odometers use the required distance measurement of the country of sale. So, for example, all Korean cars (and other cars) sold in the US will have a display in miles, since that is the US requirement. However, all US cars (and other cars) sold in Korea will have a display in kilometers since Korea uses kilometers.

1996 ford ranger Odometer and Trip gauge don't work but Speedometer works. How can I fix this Thanks?

Speedometer is ran by electronic sensor on rear end. Odometer is ran from speedometer. If both don't work problem is sensor. If speedometer works sensor is okay. If speedometer works and odometer does not problem is in mechanical parts (gears) of of odometer and has to be replaced. Can get used from eBay (search for speedometer or odometer, is one unit) or take to dealer.

Why does your speedo still work on your ea falcon but not the odometer?

It is a common fault with the EA, EB and ED falcons as well as some Holden Commodore and Nissan models which share the same speedo components. The problem usually occurs when they get to about 200,000kms. What the problem is there is a very small cog inside your speedo which drives the odometer mechanism. This cog loks like something you would find in a toy. What you will find has happened is one of the teeth has broken off it and it can no longer drive the odometer. Because it is a common problem the part to fix it is available just ring around or try ebay. To fix the problem yourself pull out the instrument cluster then undo the screws that hold the front panel (4 fairly short ones on the side and 4 very long ones on the back), remove front panel. Then undo the four centre screws which hold in the speedo. Once you pull it out remove the trip meter plunger and then the needle by turning it carefully in a counter clockwise direcvtion several times until it comes out. Then remove the screws that hold on the faceplate and remove same. The whole assembly will come away. Then undo the two screws that hold on the circuit board and when that comes away you will see the small cog. You will be suprised how small it is. If you have your part then replace it and screw it all back together. When you replace the needle turn it in a clockwise direction and be sure to set the needle on zero.

How do you fix the speedometer on a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo?

I have the same problem with my 1995 Rodeo. I lost the speedometer and had a bit of a learning curve. I replace the speedometer gear and it work well for a few days and went out again. It cost about 45 dollars, (For the Gear) I was kicked out of a Isuzu dealer when I went back and talked to a mechanic about the problem. Luckily I managed to get the answer before I was asked to leave.

He mentioned that the gear housing also need to be replace at the same time as the new gear. The reason being that it creates it's own type of wear in the housing. Being that the housing was metal I was bracing for the worst. I was shocked when the metal housing was 22 bucks. The other shocker was that I changed it out just out side the dealership. Its very easy to do, one bolt and it drops right down. I placed the new gear in and then the metal housing and was back on the road in less than 10 min.

So the answer to the question is you need to replace the housing and gear at the same time! I was shocked that it worked fine after I replaced the metal housing that holds the gear in place. I hope this works well for you, it worked fine for me.

PS. I tried a junk yard part first and had problems, buy new its cheaper. Best of luck Paul.
