Hey John==Make sure the alternator belt is tight. GoodluckJoe A Bad Diode in the Alternator will cause the light 2 stay on & still charge the bttery.
Camshaft sensor? Not if you have a distributor. Losing spark on acceleration is easy though. On acceleration, you increase pressure in the cylinders and thus increase the resistance across the plug gap. This, in addition to the resistance is too much resistance for the maximum output voltage produced by the coil, so you've got the following possibilities:
1- worn plugs
2- old plug wires
3- weak ignition coil
4- but less likely, eroded distributor cap and rotor
All of these parts will be replaced during a proper tune-up, so just do a tune-up and you'll be OK.
If a 2000 Escalade turns over but does not start what could be the problem?
There are two possible causes. One is lack of spark and the other is lack of fuel. You will need to determine which one you don't have. To check spark all you really need to do is remove one of the spark plug wires from a spark plug and using a plastic pair of pliers or something equivalent, have someone crank the engine and watch for spark. If there is no spark at the plug, you could have a few different things wrong like a crankshaft sensor bad. I am not sure what engine you have but I will assume that you have the 5.3 or 6.0L engine. These engines do not have a distributor. If you have a 5.7L it does have a distributor and a single ignition coil. If you have a single coil then you can remove the coil wire and check for spark at the coil in the same way that you did at the spark plug. To check fuel pressure you will need a fuel pressure gauge and it will hook to the schrader valve located on the passenger side of the intake manifold just below the engine cover. Has the fuel filter been replaced lately or atleast checked? If it is plugged that may be your problem. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge you could remove the fuel filter and crank the engine to see if you have fuel coming out. If no fuel comes out you may have a bad fuel pump or no power to the fuel pump. Make sure to check the fuel pump fuse which will be located in the electrical junction block under the hood on the driver side. Also check the ECM "B" fuse. An electric fuel pump is good for about 100,000 miles give or take. If you have close to this mileage on your vehicle it is a safe bet that your fuel pump has gone out on you. I hope this helps and good luck.

How often should you change a vapor canister on a 1979 Oldsmobile cutlass?
I don't know that there is really any set replacement time for these. If you're smelling gas fumes and have ruled out everything else, the vapor canister could be the cause. These can also be "rebuilt". You can empty out and replace the charcoal and put a new filter in the bottom of it. That's pretty much it.
What could cause a 1997 Cadillac Catera to turn over but not start?
Timing belt has slipped or broken. This happened to my Cat just last week after having put a replacement engine in the month before. I am also being told that the engine is "short throw" and could mean that since the timing belt was thrown, the valves may be bent which means the heads need to be pulled. One repair shop has informed me that in order to test if a valve has bent, they will put compressed air to each cylinder to see if they get pressure loss. If they do the valves are not sealing and are bent. Replacing the timing belt does not guarantee that the engine will run! Just another couple feet dug into this money pit!
