How do you replace the power steering pump pulley on a 95 V6 firebird?
You need to pick up a pulley puller tool ($25) from an auto parts store. Clamp it on the small flange then brace the puller so it doesn't turn and then tighten the large bolt and the pulley will be pried off.

What are the two switches on the bottom right hand side of the dash on my 1980 Trans Am Firebird?
Not seeing which switches you are talking about.....whether factory or something installed aftermarket....I'd have to say that one is for the rear window defrost and the other is for an option for the stereo. Bass boost or something to that effect.
I already answered this under spark plugs. If you cannot find it let me know david vol-dolfan@msn.com
How do you install a ignition switch on a 1980 Pontiac firebird?
You need two special tools to do this repair...A steering wheel puller and a lock plate depresser.
First, if your car has a padded 3-spoke type steering wheel, locate the screws (one at each spoke) on the back side of each spoke and remove them. Carefully pull the trim pad off and then find the wire that is plugged into the center of the column from the trim pad. Push in and twist the wire free of the column and be careful as a small plastic piece and a little spring will come out too.
Make sure the steering wheel is in the position of the car being driven straight ahead and then use the steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. Do not turn the wheel in either direction while removing it.
Next remove the round black plastic cover that has a couple of screws holding it in place.
Next attach the lock plate depresser and push the column lock plate down about 1/4 of an incch and then remove the slotted ring that is around the column that was holding the lock plate in place.
Next release the lock plate and remove it. You will see a black Phillips head OR torx head screw at about the 2 o clock position in the column which will appear to be screwed into the ignition lock. Remove that screw and the ignition lock cylinder will slide right out.
What would cause a puddle of water in just the rear passenger floorboard of a 1997 Firebird?
The drian plug for the AC Evaporator is either not installed properly or clogged. If the AC was not worked on recently get under the car, find the drain plug and clear the drain out (With a straw or pen) Do not use lots of force. In most cases you can take the car to a place like Tire Kingdom of Goodyear and they will just shoot up a little compressed air up the drain plug. This usually clears up the obstruction. If that doesn't work you will have to do some work on the evaporator housing

Not in the traditional sense. Such a car is merely a used car with no collectible value.

For a V6 Fire bird its going clockwise 1-2-3-4-5-6. And for the V8 Firebird it is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
bad thermostat or the gauge isn't reading right and you might need a new temperature sensor.
Can you convert a firebird formula into a trans am?
The Firebird Formula is one step "below" a Trans Am. At least in appearance. Throughout the years the Formula was made available with all the T/A performance but without the extra spoilers, etc. In many cases, the Formula was actually a fraction faster simply because it didn't carry the extra weight. But to answer your question, yes, you can easily convert it to look like a T/A. Just find a donor car and add the missing spoilers.
Why won't the head lights open on a 98 Pontiac Firebird?
I had the same problem with my 98 firebird. Took it to good auto repair shop and they fixed them with no problem. Not cheap but not that expensive. Can't remember the explanation of why they did this.
Is there any way to tell if the head gasket is blown without tearing apart the engine?
Yes, have a compression test run on the engine. Any good mechanic will be able through a few other tests, be able to determine if it is blown.
AnswerAlso, you can use a test kit the has chemicals which react to the presence of combustion byproducts in the cooling system. (Blue liquid turns yellow) Also, if you can smell the antifreeze "sweet" smell at back of the car when running, its a pretty good chance. If the steaming is accompanied by a miss or "dead" feeling cylinder, then that is a good sign too. High mileage would make me change head gaskets if I had any doubt at all.....................The "test kit" referred to above is called a block test kit. It has a colored liquid that'll change color when it comes into contact with Exhaust fumes. You open the radiator cap and pump the tester with it stuck against the radiator inlet. But the best way to check is by compression testing the cylinders (through spark plug holes) with the cylinder being tested at TDC (Top dead center). Make sure the crankshaft pulley doesn't move when you fill the cylinder with air. If you have a bad head gasket, usually there will be 2 or more low readings right next to each other.
Why won't 1989 Pontiac firebird trans am start?
You have to be a little more specific than that. There are many reasons a car wont start. Expecting someone to just simply tell you why your car won't start is impossible. The best I can tell you is start with the simple things. Do you have spark? Do you have fuel pressure? If there's no fuel pressure, you probably need a fuel pump. If you have no spark, it could be a whole bunch of different things. I would suggest taking it to someone who knows what they are doing.
