How do you know which engine is in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 1978?
A 78 Trans Am was available from the factory with three different engines. Two different versions of the Pontiac 400 cubic inch. both of them are denoted by a 'Z' in the 5th place in the VIN. The other engine that was available was an Oldsmobile supplied 403 cubic inch. This engine is identified by a 'K' in the fifth digit in the VIN. If the car has a manual trans it does NOT have the 403, if an auto trans it could have any of the three engines. The 403 was the only choice for a car sold new in CA or high altitudes.
94 Pontiac firebird air conditioner drain?
The air conditioner is filled (or drained) with R134a refrigerant via an inlet on the top of the motor (passenger side). If one were to follow a silver metal tube from the condenser along toward the front of the car, one would find a capped inlet with a nozzle similar to a bike tire, yet threaded on the inside rather than out. The black cap inlet is the low pressure side, and the red cap inlet, located nearer to the radiator is the high pressure side of the system. Filling is done on the low pressure side, with the engine running and all computer codes cleared.
It is, of course, illegal to "drain" an air conditioner without a capture device in the United States and Canada.
Is there a starting relay on a 1988 Pontiac Firebird and if so where is it located?
Does it have a coded key? If so, the resistor wires may be broken inside column. To bypass, you can take your key to a stereo shop and have the resistance in the key measured and purchase a resistor. Very cheap. Place the resistor in between the two wires in the orange wrapping coming out of the steering column. If this doesn't fix the problem, look into the neutral safety switch.

NO! the Montana is a front wheel drive minivan and the firebird is a rear wheel drive, even if they were both rear wheel drive for some reason, the firebird engine would shred the wimpy minivan trans and it would be just wrong to put a minivan trans in a firebird.
Yes you can change them out. You will need new motor mounts and alot of other stuff just google search it to find out what all you will need.

How do you adjust the brake pedal travel 1969 PONTIAC Firebird?
pedal travel is dependent on several things. first, check brake fluid level. then,i would remove the wheels and drums and look at the brake shoes. if they are worn, replace. also ched adjustment of emergency brake. low e brake can cause low pedal and is also an indicator of worn rear shoes. after replacing shoes, orif no worn shoes are found, wheel cylinders may need bleeding. bleed right rear, front left, left rear and right front in that order. do NOT adjust pedal travel at master cylinder since this may cause brake binding due to fluid return restrictions.
