How to replace a heater core for a 1992 Grand Am?

Unless your coolant has spilled into the driver/passenger compartment first you must drain the coolant out of the hoses and then you must remove the shifter console, Directly behind the console just below the radio you should see a square shape plastic box wich contanis the heater core you must open the box by unscrewing or unsnapping the fasteners be patient it's going to get a little tight but you can do it without having to remove the entire dash, pay attention to how it's set up inside the box and just diconnect the old unit and replace it with the new, remember to retrace you steps when putting it all back together, it should take you about 1-2 hrs. Don't forget refill your coolant and in most cases you have to have your A/C unit recharged after doing a heater core replacement. I did my own vehicle and my heater is working perfect. Call your local auto-parts store and verify the A/C unit having to be recharged only if your vehicle comes with an A/C unit installed(good luck). Why does your 2002 grand am squeek so bad?

Usually this is caused by worn out brake pads. There are 'squealers' on them that begin to make contact with your rotors after the pads are almost worn out, causing them to make a very unpleasant noise. Continue to drive the vehicle for very long after it squeaks and you'll begin to do expensive damage to your rotors. You can replace them yourself for about $60 in parts if you know what you're doing in about 20 minutes, or take it to a shop and be charged a few hundred dollars.

How do you clean or replace the plastic cover in front of the headlights of a 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager?

You don't have to replace them or even take off the plastic lens go to headlightsolution.net you can clean them from the outside they will look great, we had a 1999 caravan with the same problem but not any more. Good luck. Many of the plastic covers on headlights and taillights become damaged by UV light from the Sun. The clouding on the lenses is usually damage. About the only REAl way to solve the problem is to replace the lense. You do NOT have to replace the lens. I use a product called CrystaLenz, it really works and is easy to use. For more info see their website crystalenz.com

Your 2001.5 passat temp gauge goes up to 190 then after alittle drops down then goes up to 190 Could this be a thermostat or head gasket?

the rise to 190 is normal. the reason for the drop in temp. is the cooling fan is doing its job, i wouldn't worry about that unless it overheates.

You have a 93 Grand Am 5 speed manaul and it will go into 1st2nd gear but then it gets stuck and will not go into 34or 5th gear what could the problem be?

i actually bought my GA with this problem with intentions of fixing it which i did. The proble is as follows: you're shift linkage is 2 cables, 1 to control forward action and 1 to control side to side on the shifter. Pontiac didn't do a good job making bellows to cover the the rods at the ends of the shifter cables. Therefore dirt a water get in the cable and ceases the motion of the cable. Wwhen i went to the dealer each cable is around $80. Ilive in Pa by the world class junk yard harrys u pull it and ended up get both cables and a shifter for $15.

The cylinders at the back of the engine are numbered 1-3-5 left to right and 2-4-6 left to right at the front. The wires at the coil are connected to cylinders 1-4-6-3-2-5 also left to right. Match 'em up.

Anti-theft reset code on a Pontiac sunfire?

If you mean the radio reset code, you need to contact the dealer if you don't have it. There is no way around it unless you have someone with a connection to a dealership. No one can just give you this unless you have the two series of codes that are specific to the radio, which are retrieved by pressing certain radio buttons in sequence (sometimes it tells you how to do this in the manual).

How do you reset secondary piston in timing chain tensioner on 2.4 1998 cavalier?

This is for the timing chain tensioner that does not have the shoe attached to it. To reset the tensioner, push the inner piston all of the way down inside of the outer piston that it sits in. This may take a little work since the inner piston will be filled with oil and is spring loaded. Just work it a little at a time until you can push the inner piston all of the way in and it locks in place. Now check and see if the inner piston will spring out properly. Push in on the inner piston hard and release it quickly. Try to keep your hand over it just in case it pops out all of the way. I haven't seen it happen, but have heard about it. It kind of works like a "click" pen. It should pop out all of the way where you can see little holes around the inner piston. If it catches anywhere in between it's travel, reset it a few times to try and get it working smoothly. If it keeps on catching, it is recommended to purchase a new one since it will not set properly when it is installed. It cost me around $38.00 for a new one and is a lot less of a headache than tearing the side of the motor apart again if the old one does not set properly.

To install it into the motor, push the inner piston all of the way in until it locks in place. If you purchase a new one, pop the innner piston in and out a few times. New tensioners like to stick a little since they have been locked in place for a while. With the inner piston all of the way in, bolt the tensioner in place with the shoe already installed. With a small pry bar or screwdriver, push down the inner piston. You can use the shoe as a leverage point, but be careful not to twist it too much so that it breaks. This will have to be done as quickly as you can just like when you were pushing it in by hand. It may take a couple of times, but should pop out.

I personally like to put the bolt for the harmonic balancer in place and slowly turn the crank shaft in a clockwise motion to try and get some of the slack out of the timing chain.

This should take care of it and hopefully there won't be a timing chain rattle.

How do you repair or replace the heater blower resistor on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am?

The resistor assembly will be located in the evaporator's box. But, they rarely go bad. You probably have a switch, or a motor that has gone bad. It could still be under warranty.

#2First, find a dwarf or contortionist or any combination thereof to do it for you. Alternately, the job can be made easier (and you're less likely to wrench your back out) by removing the passenger front seat. (If possible.) Remove the panels under the passenger side dash. (There should be 2.) You may also need to slide the computer module off of its clip so you can move it aside for easier access. Then unplug the blower motor. Then remove the blower motor. (Because it obstructs the blower motor resistor.) Then unplug the resistor as well. Then unscrew the screws that hold it on. (A bad blower motor resistor module will be obvious, the resistor elements will be blown out and/or there may be flaking of the whole circuit board.) Installation should be as simple as reversing the steps.

#2 Add-on

Once you remove the glove compartment (remember to unplug light before pulling), you will be able to see the blower motor. I left the blower motor in, and removed the panels underneath to get access. It was a major feat and tested my flexibility. I'm 6ft, I reclined the seat, unrolled the window and stuck one leg out the window, that was the most comfortable position. The back hex screw took about 10 minutes to unscrew with some breaks since my back was begging for mercy. I would recommend unscrewing the back screw first since if you remove it last the resistor board will drop and make visibility difficult if it wasn't nearly impossible already. I had a tough time screwing them back in and ended up leaving out the back screw...figured in 3 years I'll burn this one up anyway. The resistor board is located right where toes would hit if you kept sliding them up the floor toward the engine. Buenos Suerte.

What is the procedure for removing the heater core of a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am Se 3100 V6 with automatic transmission?

i did mine myself and you do not need to remove the dash board all you do is remove middle console and it is underneath the bottom of the dash and it took me less than 2 hrs to do the hardest part is the 2 heater hoses on the engine side were the rack and pinion is it is behind the square plastic box in the center of the care its easy to do I had this done to my 1996 Grand Am. My mechanic had to remove the dash board and go into the engine that way. It took him 5-6 hours. Good Luck R. Williams S.C.
