How much oil does a 1993 grand am with a 3.3 liter engine hold?
Should be 4.5 approx litres (4-5 qts) w/filter change. Make sure you have the correct dipstick, no leaks and are on level ground when checking if this is related to the above eight qt. olf question above...
Where is the water pump on a 95 Pontiac Grand Am?
it depends on what engine you have. it's either in the timing chain casing or it's in line with your drive belt. fallow the hoses coming out of the radiator. if they lead into a unit that is driven by the belt the that is you water pump and you are in luck.
if it is a 2.4L then it is driven by the timing chain... then you have to remove you motor mount on passengers side. then you have to remove the timing chain cover on the same side as the motor mount. you will then have to completely remove the timing chain. you will see a little gear, about 3" in diameter. this is the gear for the water pump. you can unbolt it from behind the casing. but either way you will have to reline your timing chain and have the cam gears and crank gear lined up right.
if it is a 2.4l the you HAVE TO get a manual. they are only $20 bucks. it will give you a step by step. it's not easy but it's no impossible. and if you do have a manual then any time you have a question the you can just refer to it. good luck and i really hope it's not a 2.4!!
the water pump is on the side of the motor
How do you know if your turbo is broken?
Firstly, the loss of acceleration that you are used to having, and second, most likely an irritating scraping noise when it turns.
Turbo's usually last for about 150,000 miles of normal use. If the driver continually does fast accelerations every time and all the time, the life decreases by a third.
Were is the location of the crank sensor on a grand am?
depends on the motor mine is a 3.3 liter and is located behind the harmonicf balancer by the crankshaft
If you replaced the thermostat and radiator, the next step after this would be to replace your water pump, radiator pressure cap, check condition of ALL radiator lines and hoses, and replace as necessary. A hose should be replaced if it feels really soft, or if it starting to crack due to the aging rubber they are made of. Once you replace the parts described above have a certified mechanic run a pressure test on your vehicle's colling system. If you still overheat you might have an oil problem. Oil dissipates MOST engine heat but not well enough to do the whole job, which is the reason cars need cooling systems. Once your cooling system checks out see what a mechanic will tell you and I believe the most likely cause would be an oil problem. If oil is not getting to the cylinders properly the engine can overheat really fast and could possibly seize so be careful! Also note you may want to replace the timing belt as well if your car is at least 60,000 miles, or you have never replaced because on most cars the water pump is right near the timing belt. Replacing water pumps is extensive work in labor terms, so you may want to replace the timing belt because if you replace the pump and the timing belt on separate occasions, you'll have to pay the labor both times unless you have the know how to do it yourself.
How do you disable the theft system on a 1996 Pontiac grand am?
You can't. I had the exact same problem with my 96 grand am, and after changing the ignition and also the instrument cluster was the only way to get it to work. I would try to replace the ignition first cause it could not be reading the key properly and if it still gives you problems then your whole control panel will need to be changed. Either way its going to cost a pretty penny.
Actually you can. This is a common problem with grand am's. If the car does not start on the first try...the anti theft system will kick in and the car won't start for 10 minutes. Don't try to start until the security light stops flashing. I finally disabled mine by cutting the yellow wire behind the radio. If you do this the security light will always be on (steady) but at least the car will start every time.
Can you replace the rod bearings in a 1999 Pontiac grand am without pulling the engine?
Yes..you should be able to. You'll have to take off the starter, remove the front engine mount to be able to lift the engine slightly then remove the oil pan.
Do you have to pull the dash to replace heater defroster fan on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am?
Usually it is mounted on the engine side of the firewall. They are not to hard to replace. You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
Where is the oil filter on a 2.4l Pontiac?
if it is a quad 4 2.4 ltr made up to 2000 it is located in the front of the engine. it is easily accessible from under the car. On some modles there is a little plastic plate that you can pop 2 tabs out of their holes to get better access to it. the newest version of the 2.4 ltr that is designated an Ecotec engine it is under a screw cap on the front of the engine just to the right of the intake manifold. you need a 1 inch or a 1 1/8 socket to remove the cap.
Why does a 1991 Pontiac grand am stall when put into drive?
I had the same problem with my 1992 grand am after it got warmed up. Once it cooled down it would go just fine. I determined that the torque converter lockup solenoid was bad and would not disengage once the transmission got hot. It will seem like you are dropping the clutch when you put it in gear, because the trans is locked in gear.
How do you change the side mirrors on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am?
On your door there is a rectangular plastic piece, some cars it has a round little speaker in it. Remove that piece by pulling it gently, so you wont break it. There will be 3 to 4 screws with bolts attached. Remove bolts and if they are power mirrors, you will need to unplug the connector. The connector is behind the door paneling. Its not that far down.
Why would only warm air come out when the heat is turned up all the way and the coolant is full?
Two things. Check the thermostat, or change it. 2nd, air lock in the system. And, a possible 3rd, the valve that opens the air vent might be jammed.
The dashlights are connected to the taillight circuit with the same fuse so that when your tail lights go out, the dash lights will too and you will know so you won't ride around with no tail lights. Replace the fuse.
I did not find this to be a solution for my problem - fuses were not the issue. Following is my solution:
I had the lights on my dash and tail lights go out on my 1995 Grand Am 3.1 V6. After much investigation, it ended up being that the turn signal switch had gone bad. I got mine at Autozone - $79.99 for one with cruise, $69.99 for one without. SW860 for the non-cruise, SW859 for the cruise version. It is sometimes referred to as a multifunction switch - however, when I called and asked about that, it seemed as though the parts are NOT the same (MFS was much more expensive). Make sure you specify turn signal switch (that also controls the tail lights, headlights, etc).
In order to replace it, you need to remove the cover around the steering column - we couldn't get the lower part of the cover off and subsequently also had to pull the steering wheel (which also meant disabling the air bag), then remove the bad turn signal switch (which also controls the headlights, parking lights, tail lights, etc), pop in a new one, put everything back together (re-enabling the airbag) and then you can enjoy a life of dash lights and tail lights once again.

Will the obd code P0442 reset itself on a 2004 Grand Am?
P0442 is an EVAP code. Your system automatically pressurizes itself at certain times to check for leaks. If the problem is fixed try taking the car up to about 50MPH for a decent amount of time (10-20 minutes) and it should reset itself. SES (service engine soon) codes should also reset if you disconnect the battery terminals for about a minute. If none of those work you can always use an OBD2 scanner tool that has the capability of resetting SES codes to fix your problem. Just a hint, P0442 codes have been known to be associated with cracked or loose gas caps causing the system to be unable to pressurize itself. Check the cap for cracks and re-tighten it then try any or all of the above steps again. If your gas cap feels loose or weak maybe try replacing it. If none of that works you may have not fixed the problem.
