On a 3.8L, near the back of the engine below the power steering reservoir,

passenger side of engine. It's down in back by serpentine belt facing down & back of the vehicle. Easiest to remove the right front tire and you can easily change the filter through the wheel well.

What to use to stop a lifter tick in a 1997 Transport also how to reset the power door?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

My 97 Trans Sport with 104K miles had a BAD lifter " Tick " I did two things to cure it First I changed the oil AND THE FILTER using a really good filter Like a WIC filter with a really good anti-drainback valve .I have been told that the NAPA Gold oil filter is a good one too ...There are a lot of cheap oil filters that have a anti-drainback valve but it is not good enough to do the job in the 3.4L The 3.4 L needs a really good sealing anti-drainback valve in the oil filter ...Without a good anti drainback valve in the oil filter the engine must refill the filter, oil lines ,bearings and hydraulic lifters every time you start the engine ... The oil I used was just 3 quarts of low cost 10W30 and one quart of Mobil one ... That's what I had ... The second thing I did was dump in a can of "Engine Restore " you can get it at Wal Mart in a little silver can ... This stuff will un-stick gummed up lifters and piston rings too... This worked on my 97 Trans Sport I went on vacation recently and let it sit for 10 days when I got back I started it and it ticked for about 20 seconds at idle then was very quiet ! A little ticking at start up is normal ! Hope this helps Bob in Cassopolis Michigan

Answerthe power door reset is in the outer fuse box you have to pull the radio fuse for 30 seconds then replace it and hit your upperconsole power door lock switch to ON let the car sit without using the power door eventually it will start to work..be sur the bottom strip along the power door isn't in the way of the track these doors will have to be reset if they get jammed..i had to cut the bootom part of that strip off to get mine working but they jam up alot I did flush my 3.4 the same way you described and the problem stopped run 5w30 pennzoil and a bottle of LUCAS

How do you fix a front wiper motor in your 1997 Transport that does not return to its home resting position need help with this 5 22 06?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The reason lies in an excessive lubrication of wiper motor pinion so that movable electrical points become disconnected from base upon the surface of pinion. You should take off the whole wiper system (I did that myself with no others help so you CAN do), take off the motor cover and electronic board. Underneath it you'll see the pinion. Remove the excessive lubrication and clean two electrical contacts and two tracks with cleaning rag. That's all about it.

What causes oil to be in the throttle-body of a SPF injection GM 3800 engine?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Probably the intake manifold gasket needs replacement. Since the engine has large amount of oil under the intake manifold, and its gaskets are all that keeps the oil out of the intake manifold's vacume, that is a reasonable place to start thinking about. The PCV, ( positive crankcase valve ) could be stuck as well. That's easily checked by unplugging it from the engine and shaking it, and put your finger over the end of it with the engine idling. That valve is a very simple device, generally speaking, if it rattles when you shake it, and you can feel some vacume when you cover its engine side with your finger, it's OK. It has two manners of operation. It blocks the high engine vacume on deceleration, and allows some suction through the engine to reburn any blowby instead of allowing it to escape into the atmosphere.

Where is the transport turn signal relay on a 1993 Pontiac?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, I found it, and boy they didn't make it easy. The manual states: Under the dash, left of steering column, well that is a lot of real-estate! First of all you have to unscrew the bottom most panel under the steering wheel, then pop out the upper panel just below the steering wheel. Now you can't see the relay by looking under the dash!! You have to look through a slat in a plastic front plate in the proximity of the brake release. The relay is on top of a bracket, which shields it from view, it is actually hidden from sight if you are looking from underneath the dash :-( Wow Crazy, a $2.00 part probably would cost $60.00 to have a dealer install it. Why would the service engine light come on in a 98 Pontiac transport?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.
