Where is the serpentine belt tensioner located on a 1999 Saturn SL1?
The tensioner for the serpentine belt on a 1999 SL-1 is located just below and forward of the power steering pump (which is close to the firewall). You will be able to see it with a good light because it has a square fitting exposed that either a 1/2" or 9/16" wrench will fit on. It is not extremely easy to reach, especially if you have big hands. When you do get a wrench on it, turn it clockwise and the belt will loosen right up. Remember, the tensioner is under spring tension, so ease the wrench off slowly.
Do blown head gaskets affect the timing chain in any way?
THe head gasket should not effect the timing chain. The coolant filling into the cylinders may have a similar effect. If the engine is an overhead cam engine there is no reason to replace the head gasket without replacing the timing chain though. Except for cost or if the timing set has recently been replaced. If the vehicle has dex-cool which is the coolant that is RED IN COLOR THE ENGINE MAY BE RUINED due to corosion caused by the RED coolant. If the coolant is green don't worry too much.
What is the location of the master relay code 43 for transmission 94 Saturn?
Relay is in underhood fuse block marked A trans
Do your 2002 Saturn SC2 have a timing belt or timing chain?
All Saturn 4 cylinder engines have an internal timing chain.
All Saturn V6 engines have a timing belt.
On many occasions the plastic inside the handle strips out and the handle just spins. There is a "C" clip holding the handle to the regulator.Push the door panel in behind the handle to see and remove the clip. Look inside the handle to see if the plastic is stripped. If not , the regulator will need to be replaced. (Note: If the handle is stripped, the window tracks are probably dry and need lubrication or the problem will happen again.)
How do you replace catalytic converter Saturn sl2?
FIRST you find out why the OLD converter failed. If it's oil fouled, a new converter won't last long and you're just waisting money if you just replace the converter.
If the converter is oil fouled, you'll need to rebuild or replace the engine first.
Other than that, it's usually best to cut the exhaust line and weld in the new converter.
How hot does the water in the radiator get after it overheats?
The cooling system is closed, and unlike NASCAR there is no fail safe way for fluid to escape if it overheats. instead the pressure will force the fluid through the weakest point in the system. Usually where the hoses meet the radiator or the block are where you will first notice the gas escaping
Where can you find a schematic for a 1999 Saturn SL1?
The best bet for generalized schematics would be a Chiltons or Haynes book, available at your local auto parts establishment. Some Saturn service centers will render assistance for more specific requirments.
Where is the starter for a 1994 Saturn SL?
If you look where the alternator is to the right you can see it. Most likely it is covered with grease but is the only gold part on the car.
well im not sure but every one else is saying the same for most cars. look under the passenger side by the exahaust mainfold and transmission.
On most S series, the sensor is located in the center, rear of the engine... by the cowl. Removal of the air cleaner and such is necessary to even see it. First check the fuses and the relay, then test the fan by either unplugging the wiring harness and running jumpers from the battery positive and negative. If the fan doesn't work when wired direct, then the fan motor is faulty. If it works and all fuses and relays have been tested, then the sensor is faulty.
The cooling fan will run when the A/C is engaged. Turning on the A/C for a second will normally activate the relay, unless the problem is more serious, and in turn switch on the cooling fan. This will help keep the engine cool until you can get the sensor replaced. Never run when hot or fill with cold water when hot. Cracked heads, block, blown gaskets can be more costly than a sensor.
what are you considering hot? because my sc2's fan doesnt kick on until the temp gauge hits the redline. (all the way up) once the needle hits it, they kick on, and they temp goes just about straight down to 1/4.
im pretty sure you just havent ran it to when the thermostat on the fans are set to turn them on...
Why does your Saturn 1999 sc2 not start sometimes?
If it doesn't start sometimes, that means something isn't working "sometimes". Your Saturn, along with all modern fuel injected vehicles, is a complex piece of equipment, and almost any engine component that could intermittently fail can result in intermittent starting.
If it is not fuel related the computer will usually find and report the problem, so have a competent mechanic scan for error codes.
If there is no error code, you probably have a problem with one of the fuel delivery components.
Where can i find Saturn sc1 backup light sockets?
The socket required for the Saturn SC1 back up lights are a non-standard size. A deep well 22mm or 23mm is required.
What is the up arrow warning light on a 97 Saturn SC2?
The up arrow indicates that you have too many engine rpms and you should shift into the next higher gear.
What might cause a alarm to go off in a Saturn SL2?
Does it happen only while the car is "off" or does it also happen while driving? If the alarm happens without any apparent reason, even while driving, you may want to check the anti-theft relay. If alarm happens while the car is off, it could be a problem with any of the various switches and sensors that sense alarm conditions.
When should you change the timing belt or chain on a Lincoln Mark VIII?
The smart answer is "before it breaks". The 4.6L-4V engine has two timing CHAINS with a tensioner driving the cams at a 2 to 1 ratio. The engine is an interference engine so if one or both of the chains break or come off the tensioner the engine is basically shot. This happened to me at 143K miles. I had the car serviced by the dealer I bought it from and there was no mention of a service interval for the timing chain, ever. I always got the recommend service depending on the miles on the Mark. Replacing the engine is expensive and Ford had a series of bad rebuilds which caused me much grief. I went through 4 engines before (1 lockup after 40 minute, 1 timing tensioner failure after 2 weeks and 1 crank failure after 3 months) I got a keeper. I have 198K on the 1995 Mark now and I still love it! Get a price to check it out and see if it's worth it. You may be able to "listen" for excessive noise in the chains using an "engine stethoscope" but you probably have not point of reference to base a decision one. 4 chains total. (2 timing chains and 2 cam chains) Replace tensioners and sprockets also.
How do you replace the alternator on a Saturn wagon?
The alternator must be removed either through the bottom of the vehicle, or threw the passanger side wheel well opening. Raise and support the vehicle. Disconnect the battery. Remove the serpentine belt by removing tention, and sliding it off. Under the car, disconnect the power wire using a 10MM socket. use a small screw driver and pry upwards on the electrical connector to remove quickly. remove both the Lower and Upper mounting bolts. in some cases, the upper bolt can be more easily accessed from under the hood. once the mounting bolts are moved, some prying, or wiggleing of the alternator may be necessary to free it from the bracket. Installation is just opposite. should take a novice around 30-45 minuites to complete the job.
How did the distance of the sensor from the electromagnet affect the reading on the sensor?
the greater the distance the lower the reading
I just bought a Reebok S 9.80 have the same problem. I contacted the Icon tech and he said the console is bad and they will send a replacement.
Where is the passenger side kick panel on a 1995 Saturn SL1?
The passenger side kick panel is the panel on the passenger's right side that covers the "wall" under the glove box and just forward of the door.
There is a product called PLUG ALIVE that has a red LED light turn on to indicate your block heater is working immediately. You can also use a meter to measure the resistance or current draw if it is working. It is not as convenience or easy to use the meter all the time especially need to stay outside in the cold temperature. However the block heater element can break or crack at anytime therefore need to check all the time. It's easier to use the PLUG ALIVE tester. Google it to find where you can buy on
There is also a product called PowerCheck. Check eBay and search for "block heater status"
What is the performance button on the 1997 Saturn sl2?
The button allows you to select between two different transmission shift patterns.
The "economy" shift pattern allows the transmission to shift a little sooner, which tends to keep the engine RPMS down a little and saves some fuel.
The "performance" shift pattern shifts a little later and results in a little higher engine RPMs at the cost of a little of the fuel economy.
In some vehicles, the "performance" pattern also disables the transmission lockup circuit. Lockup helps considerably with economy, since it bypasses the torque converter.
Where can you find a radio wiring harness diagram for a 99 mustang?
