How do you replace timing chain on Saturn SL2?
You need to remove the housing on the "front" of the engine (as differentiated from the traditional rear of the engine).
Once you have the front of the engine open and the pan off, the timing chain, camshafts and crankshaft should be exposed.
Turn the crankshaft to #1TDC and put a small drill bit or other small rod into the alignment holes on the camshaft sprockets to keep them in place.
Remove the timing chain tensioner rails, making sure that you retract the tensioner first (piston on a spring) then remove the bolts from the crankshaft and camshafts.
Once you get to that point, the chain and sprockets should all come off.
Reassemble in the reverse order, but use new tensioner rails, sprocket and timing chain.
Additional information:
If the engine has been properly maintained, the timing chain shouldn't need replacing until you rebuild the engine. A timing chain isn't like a timing belt; chains last a lot longer.
because the rings are fascinating and the colours are beatiful
What type of Antifreeze should you use in your 2000 Saturn Sl2?
Both kinds will work. The orange 5 year "Dex Cool" will need changing less often. Be sure to flush prior putting new anti-freeze in the system. Also consider age and condition of hoses.
Why does my clutch get stuck on my 98 Camry?
Try to be a little more specific when you describe how the clutch gets "stuck".
Do you mean that it won't dis-engage, or do you mean that it won't engage?
If it won't disengage, it could be a problem with the hydraulics, in which case you'll probably need to track down whether there is a leak in the master cylinder or slave cylinder, whether the fluid is low or if there is a mechanical problem with the hydraulic clutch system.
A clutch that won't disengage can also be caused by a damaged clutch disk, throwout bearing or pressure plate.
If it won't ENGAGE, it is probably a problem with the physical clutch disk and/or pressure plate.
What is the average miles on a Saturn motor?
It is really hard to find an "average" lifespan of any type of engine. There are so many variables that have to be taken into consideration. One of the biggest factors in engine life actually takes place within the first few thousand miles. If someone raced the engine when the car was brand new, it didn't have time to properly break in. This will severely shorten the lifespan of any engine. Also, preventative maintenance plays a big part in engine life. Changing your oil is very cheap insurance to protect your engine.
Why would one spark plug be covered with oil Saturn s-series?
Probably a leaking valve cover gasket. They are pretty simple to install and the part is about thirty dollars. Just make sure the parts dealer gives you the right gasket. Sometimes the plastic valve cover used on these models warps a little from the heat which can make the gasket stop fitting quite right causing oild to leak out. If this has happened, a "liquid gasket" type product may help improve the seal (but make sure to choose a high temperature, oil resistant product).
How do you replace the manual window regulator on a 1994 SC?
There is a c type clamp on the inside of the hand control where it meets the door. You will have to push in on the doors panel to see it, its usually copper colored. It comes out in one direction, you will need to get a flat head screwdriver and push one of the ends of the clamp (pin as its really like a "c"wire) and id should pop out and you can pull the knob off. Put the pin on the knob (but not all the way into the slot) before installing the knob. then after you slide the knob on use a screwdriver to pust the "c" pin back into place.
How much work is it to replace the alternator in a 1995 Saturn SL1?
It actually isn't that hard. Remove the front right wheel and fender liner. Use a 9/16" wrench to loosen the serpentine belt by turning the wrench clockwise. Slip the belt off the alternator. Then remove the wires and the bolts that hold the alternator to the engine. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Change the temperature sending sensor on the engine. This is literally a 25 min. job from start to finish. The sensor's new from Saturn are cheap and notoriously going bad over time. Just did one in my 97 and it was simple and cleared the same problem. The return line from the engne to the fill/overflow tank may be clogged. Take it off and clean it out.
1995 Saturn sl 1 wont start it will trun over but wont start?
If the vehicle has a security feature check the fuse under the hood. My 2001 SL1 had that problem. its like a 30 Amp fuse.
How do you fix a timing belt tensioner on 97 Saturn SC2 What is cost if mechanic does it?
A 97 SC2 does not have a timing belt, it has a timing CHAIN. The timing chain tensioner is INSIDE the engine, behind the oil pump. Replacing the timing chain tensioner is a complex process, requiring substantial engine dis-assembly, and you should replace the timing chain and sprockets at the same time.
HOWEVER...If, as I suspect, you are being told that you need to replace the serpentine belt tensioner, it's a relatively simple process, back off the old tensioner, remove the belt (may as well put on a new one when you're done), a couple bolts and the old tensioner is gone, then put the new one in it's place, tighten it up and install the new belt. Probably a 15 minute process if you have all of the tools and supplies with you.NOTE, it will be much easier if you remove the passenger side tire, pull out the inner fender liner (for access to the engine), and work on it from there.
How do you access the fuel pump of a 2001 saturn SL2?
Unless there is an access panel above the fuel pump, the fuel tank must be removed to gain access to the pump.
The correct gap is .040". Originally they said .060 but it caused to many misfire concerns so they changed it back to .040". There should have been a new emiisions label put on under the hood.
What does a flashing engine light mean?
A flashing " check engine " light means that an engine cylinder misfire has been
detected . You can drive it in for repair , just avoid any rapid acceleration or
deceleration because you can damage the catalytic converter
How do you disable anti theft on a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire?
You'll have to get a tuner to disable it through the computer. If your talking with a remote start, you can bypass it with a "passlock" which can be found at car alarm shops
Where is and what does the ignition module on a 1993 Saturn SL?
The ignition module is under the ignition coils The coils are bolted to the frt of the transmission housing. Follow the ignition wires to the coils The coils are bolted to the module underneath The module control spark to the spark plugs. It sends the required signal to the coil as to when to fire t then fires and "sends" the spark through the ignition wire to the spark plug
How do you set a timing chain for a 1996 Saturn Sl1?
You must line up the TDC marks on the cam sprocket and the crankshaft gear with the light colored links on the new timing chain. Check a Clymer or Haynes manual for specific instructions for the SOHC engine. His daughter says hi.
How do you change a crankshaft position sensor in a 98 Saturn SL2?
It's actually a relatively simple process, except that you'll probably need to remove the starter.
To get the full instructions, go to your local library and refer to a shop manual for the Saturn.
The sensor should just screw out and a new one is put in it's place. The electrical connection should be straightforward.
Does Saturn LS1 have a timing belt?
Yes it does
Now for the right answer:Actually, the LS1 has a 4 cylinder engine, and the LS2 has a V6. All Saturn 4 cylinder engines uses a timing CHAIN, and the V6 uses a timing belt. So, verify that your engine has a 4 cylinder engine, and if it does, it has a timing chain.
How do you replace a front wheel bearing on a 1993 Saturn SL1?
the front bearing are pressed in. so you can do one of two things take the whole car to a repair shop, or you can remove the whole assembly buy bearings and have a shop press then for you. most auto part stores sell them for about $40.00 and shops charge around $25.00 a side to press. as i said if you pull it apart.
Rock Auto (no I do not represent them) sold me a Saturn Front bearing assembly kit which includes a wheel spindle with a pressed on bearing for Approx $56. My unit was not assembled and they graciously credited me with the cost of pressing the bearing on the spindle. The spindle looks like a top hat with at tiny top. The bearing gets pressed on over the top so it is sitting on the rim of the top hat. The wheel studs are aiming down in this analogy. The kit includes a new drive axel nut which should always be replaced on any and all model of cars. The kit includes an internal expanding circlip approx 4" dia. The hardest part of this job on a 1995 SW-2 is removing the disc brake rotor from the wheel hub...especially if car used in a salty environment like central New York State. Good luck!
Why does my cars exhaust smell like exhaust. it also smokes at start up.?
Is this a trick question?? This is wat i sound lik: "why does my cars EXHAUST smell like EXHAUS?its also SMOKES at START UP... Ima leave that as that
For a 1999 Saturn SL2 is 10W-30 motor oil okay to use?
