I had this happen and it was because my gas cap wasn't on tight enough. Check that and see if that is/was the issue. Next time you fill up just twist the gas cap (until you hear it click) three or four times.

You might have a problem with the orientation but it will work.

This is going to depend on your mechanical ability as well as the car or truck in question. In short though, the transmission will have to be removed from the vehicle to install. If you are inclined enough to remove the transmission than the rear main seal isn't much harder at all.

It should be on the drivers side between the motor and the firewall. Check the differential oil on the passenger side in about the same place. Subaru transmissions use both transmission fluid and 90 weight gear lube.

If you are not experienced or very mechanically inclined this will be hard. Start out by getting a Haynes Or Chiltons, then follow the direction. You have to take the transmission out,then remove and replace the clutch. It is not as easy as it sounds, and the tranny is heavy.

The speedometer is fed by two wires (one black one white wire) from VSS 2. This pair works its way through multiple connectors to pins 2 and 3 on a 3-pin connector in the back of the combo meter (i11, all three pins next to each other). The wires maintain their color all the way to the instrument cluster according to the shop manual. The speedometer then feeds a green wire with black stripe that exits the combination meter. This wire finds its way to both the TCU and cruise control according to diagrams. This wire is on pin 10 of connector i10 (light gray, 16-pin, each pin next to the other) at the combination meter. There is a wire that leaves the speedometer circuit for ground, for four connections in total.

The short answer is likely not properly maintaining the transmission. The Subarus run hot and breakdown the transmission oil. If they're not properly maintained the transmission can start to have problems quickly. The car probably will tell you what the problem is if you run through the self diagnostic system. This will trigger the car to blink a code on the dashboard which will narrow down the problem. There may be a cylinoid in the transfer case that has gone bad that moves the car into and out of four wheel drive. If one of the cylinoids goes bad, it can cause the vehicle to stay in four wheel drive when you don't want it or not go in four wheel drive when you need it. Your best bet is to take it to a transmission specialist, as opposed to a typical auto mechanic.

Your power mirrors(if equipped) would not be working either. On my 98 legacy GT, to the left and below your hood latch release, is the box. On mine, it is top row, the third one away from you. 20A. Hope this helps.

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

Does the (check engine )stay lit when you start from cold if not then check the engine oxygen sensor may need replacing or the turbo has been replaced and could be blowing out the spark
