Coolant is getting into the ATF possibly through a hole in the oil cooler

you need to check to the plug, not the car...

depending on fuel, turbo boost (if any) weather and engine wear

a good number is somewhere between .0028" and .0043" for NGK,

.0030" for Bosch, and .0036" for Denso Iridium.

One is the Head Temp sensor, other is either a knock sensor, or on the throttle body it's the cold start injector

Usually when it backfires it means thath there is some kind of Spark problem! Sometimes a sticky intake valve! The first thing I would look at is the ignition system! Has it had a tune up in a while?

you should check the fuel pump relay, it sounds like it is getting overheated. Replace that relay and your problem may go away. It is a lot easier to replace then the fuel pump and filter which live in the gas tank.

Change out the flasher relay located under the dash. Not the brake light switch which is activated by the brake pedal. Replacing the relay should solve the problem.

ive seen this answered on another site, but i will do my best to basically tell you what to do-im going to attempt the same thing this week. I guess it was a dumb spot to put these wires, since the tailgate arms basically crush the wires on all these wagons. the solution i saw said you unhook the headliner, it comes un clipped and fish the wires out and splice them back together, recommend you disconnect the battery first. then electrical tape them all the way up and down ro protect them. i saw that the headliner wont fall, it will stay pretty tight, just have a set of wires coming out of the back. I guess you could also try to cut a small hole in the liner, near the edge and then slip the headliner back in place. Either way be careful you dont break the clips that secure the headliner..you also might find you need to replace bulbs in the tailgate licence light etc. .. New wiring harnesses for both hinges is available from IPD. They are just plug and play. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I went the replacement route myself. I purchased the two harnesses from IPD and did the job with the help of a friend. The headliner just unsnaps off and is not difficult to snap back on. The hard part is the instructions from IPD have you remove the rear gate. This is where you'll need a buddy to help. It is actually not too bad of a job; the worst part is feeding the wires through the gate. I also had to use some of the plastic connectors from the old wiring, but it is pretty much plug and play as stated above. New 240 Owner

The 1988 Volvo 244 utilized the Bosch LH 2.2 Jetronic fuel injection system. There are two fuel pumps; a lift pump to which you refer is mounted inside the gasoline tank. There is a second, high pressure pump under the car next to the gasoline filter. To remove the tank pump, you remove the "bung" which also has the fuel sender connected to it.

The flasher device for the hazard lights and turn signals is located to the right of the driver's right knee. Remove the bolster panel at the left of the center console. The flasher is normally a black box about 1"x2".

disconnect the battery for 1min or so the light will go off

This procedure will work with any model 240. First take a plastic knife and pry the cover off of the top of the manual window handle to expose the screw which holds it on. Remove the screw and then the handle. Next pop out the round plastic plugs in the armrest using a small screwdriver. This will expose the screws which hold the arm rest to the door. Remove the three screws and then pivot the arm rest on its top anchoring shaft about 90 degrees. The shaft has little wings which must be lined up with slots before the armrest can be completely removed.

For the map pocket there are three small plastic pins with slots in their heads which must be turned 90 degrees before they can be pulled out. Once these three pins are out. Gently lift the pocket up to unhook it from the two screws which it hangs on.

Now, grab an old butter knife and slide it under the panel at one of the bottom corners. Then slide it up until you feel it hit one of the plastic clips which holds the panel on. Then pry the panel away from the door until you hear the clip "pop" out. Then slide the knife up the edge of the panel until you feel the next clip. Then just pry and "pop" the next clip. Work your way around the left, right, and bottom edges of the panel until you have popped out all of the clips. Finally unscrew the knob on the door lock to remove it, then lift up on the panel to unhook it from the door. If it does not move up, then go back and check to see if you may have missed one of the clips.

The exterior door handle is attached by only two screws. Remove these, then the handle will be free to be removed from the outside. It will take a little finesse to get it out, but pulling up on the lever will make it easier.

Get a copy of "Haynes Motor Repair Manual"---for your model they"re really good. The books are published in England but are available. in the haynes manual for the 1980 thru 1983 is very hard to read it leads to a alot of dead ends and leaves you asking more questions then you started. if you can get a "Chiltons" manual is more helpful or a dealer diagram is more helpful.

There is abolt on the bottom of the alternator that holds the alternator to the engine. There is another bolt and bracket on the top that adjusts the belt tension. There is a ground wire, power wire from the starter and a wire that connects to the dash light. There are also one or two belts depending on the year and model of the car.

Yes I believe actually the 1986 to 1992 Volvo 240 4 doors are all interchangeable parts but I'm not sure for 1985 and earlier models.

I know its not a flywheel but I just replaced the rear main seal on my automatic 1990 240 DL and I did not index the flexplate, everything runs just fine after the work was done.

There is a small "pre-pump" inside the gas tank, and the high pressure pump is located under the car on the left side, just forward of the rear tire.

Not necessarily... there are two fuses for the fuel system

My sources say it is in a "basket" (fixed with three bolts) on the left side under the car, next to the fuel pump.

the coolant goes in the reservoir on the passenger fender. use a 50 percent water to 50 percent green coolant to fill it.

relay is inside the gas tank by the fuel pump

the fuel pump relay is found in the fuse box behind the front ash tray it is white are blue most are white cost in the UK £18 in the USA do not know. one of two fuel pumps one in the tank the other is under the car in a small cage one is a fuel filter and the other is a pump. goggle Volvo relays to see it.

It is in the center dash, behind the panel in the left side footwell.
