I'm not sure why it does that. I have an '84 Fiero and when I got on the highway and hit over 55 it made a loud pop and then the engine shuts off. After that day I realized I blew the muffler. So try checking that. But after I replaced the muffler its still giving me problems. :( I love the car though. I'm not sure why it does that. I just had mine replaced and it was $140.00 at a "mom and pop" mechanic. If you go to the dealer then I am sure it will be about 200-250.

you should gently press the brake pedal and gently press the gas pedal, the increase friction will dry the brakes.....

The front o2 sensor is just to the left of the battery. It's a little tube with a wire that is plugged in right before the exhaust pipe.

Try the Automotive Section at your local public library. Look for a Hayne's or Chilton's Repair Manual for your vehicle. You will find most information you are seeking along with repairs, etc. If you prefer to buy a manual, your local auto parts store will usually have one for about $11-$14.

The crankshaft position sensor is located on the rear of the engine. It is mounted just above the oil pan on the engine block.

Seperate the engine and transmission

It is at the front of the engine under the power steering pump. It is the 1 1/4" plastic nut you see facing up at you. It will be black. Unscrew that and the filter will be snapped onto the bottom of that. If you don't know where the power steering pump is just look towards the front and right of the engine. The nut will be under some wires but still easy to see.

Also known as PCV, and commonly associated with a PCV Valve. What is it? A method the engine on your car uses to ensure there is no excessive pressure build-up in your crank case (By allowing it to vent when needed); And also (More important for pollution control) - Redirects that vented gas back into the air-intake system to be burned off as combustion during normal engine operation. The PCV Valve is just a little (usually plastic) one-way vent tube. It allows the engine to release pressure, but does not allow the engine to "Pull" or "Inhale" for lack of a better word, through the same valve. If the engine could not vent excess gas, it would cause all kinds of problems, from stalling to moisture-contaminted oil. If one were to remove the PCV valve, the excess gas would be released into the open air, more causing pollution. The engine it self will continue to run without the PCV valve installed, but there are some down-stream issues with this; Namely the ability for moisture and other pollutants & particulates to re-enter the engine's crank case and mess things up.

GO TO YOUR AUTO PARTS STORE AND BUY A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL FOR THE CAVALIER. IT HAS PICTURES AND DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS. PROCEDURE IS DIFFERENT FOR EACH TYPE OF ENGINE

With my car, it was Heater matrix clogged with radiator sealant. The workshop cleaned it and it's start working fine!

For the 1.8L & 2.0 L OHV Engines (For diagrams e-mail me: LanceRViolator@aol.com) <From a Chilton's> ON Chevrolet V6 models the distributor body is involved in the engine lubrication system. The lubrication circuit to the right bank valve train can be interrupted by misalignment of the distributor body. (Know your firing order to have correct position)

The '87-92 Chevy built 4 cyl 2.0: & V6 2.8L engines do not have a distributor. (They are DIS)

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Tag and disconnect all wires leading from the distributor cap. 3. Remove the air cleaner housing as previously detailed. 4. Remove the distributor cap. 5. Disconnect the AIR pipe-to-exhaust manifold hose at the air management valve. 6. Unscrew the rear engine lift bracket bolt an nut, lift it off the stud and then position the entire assembly out of the way to facilitate better access to the distributor. 7. Mark the position of the distributor, relative to the engine block and then scribe a mark on the distributor body indication the initial position of the rotor. 8. Remove the holddown nut and clamp fro the base of the distributor. Remove the distributor from the engine. The drive gear on the distributor shaft is helical and the shaft will rotate slightly as the distributor is removed. Note and mark the posistion of the rotor at this secod position. Do not crank the engine while the distributor is removed. 9. To install the distributor, rotate the shaft until the rotor aligns with the second mark you made (when the shaft stoped moving). Lubricate the drive gear with clean engine oil and install the distributor into the engine. As the distributor is installed the rotor should move to the first mark that you made. This will ensure proper timing. If the marks do not align properly, remove the didtributor and try again. 10. Install the clamp and holddown nut.

--> You may wish to use a magnet attached to a extention bar to position the clamp on the stud.

11. Installation o fthe remaining components is in the reverse order of removal. Check the ignition timing.

1.8L and 2.0L OHC Engines ( For Diagram e-mail me)

1. Disconnect the battery ground 2. Mark the spark plug wires and remove the wires & coil. 3. Matchmark the position of the rotor, distributor body and cylinder head. 4. Disconnect the wiring from the distributor. 5. Remove the two distributor holddown nuts. 6. Remove the distributor. 7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the holddown nuts to 13 ft. lbs.

It can be a long job, and maybe slightly more than a first time do-it-yourselfer would want to undertake, but with all things car-related, if you have the manual, the right tools, and good organization, just about anybody can do this repair. Get the repair manual for this car, a basic mechanics set (sockets and wrenches), and a torque wrench, and just take your time making notes (and maybe pictures) along the way, and your repair should go smoothly.
