How do you change the rear shocks on a 1991 Chevy Cavalier?

All you need to do to replace the rear shocks is open the trunk and you would see 2 black caps one on the left and one on the right and they are located unde rthe speakers. Once you have found these remove them by hand or with a flat headed screwdriver and you will see i large nut on the top and two smaller ones on the side. Remove the two smaller ones on the side and this will free the shock at the top. Do the same on the other side. With the car jacked up and the wheel off you can see where the shock attaches to the wheel assembly and then from there all you do is loosen the bolt that holds it and then put the new one in and attach it to the bottom bolt and then using a jack jack up the wheel assembly and then put in the top mounting bolts that you took off earlier.

How do you replace the head gasket located on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier?

Hey Karen==Get a shop manual from a parts store and it will give you the information and it has pictures also. GoodluckJoe

If you've never done this before it'll save you time and money to pay someone else to do it.

It's way to expensive at a shop or a dealer. Is there anywhere we can get simple "how to" instructions on how to do it?

Replacing the head gasket on any vehicle is a long and complicated process, however if you wish to see basic step-by-step instructions go to the related question on the right side of the page "How do you replace a head gasket?"

Two very important tips with the 2.4L... when installing the cams turn the crankshaft 90 degrees (3 o'clock position). This puts all the pistons half way, which leaves room for the valves to open until you get everything in time. Then when it's time to put chain on and the cams are set in time turn the crank backwards that 90 degrees to 12 o'clock ... and, make sure the cam followers(lifters) are spongy and not pumped-up solid. They will not let the valves close and will destroy the open valves, piston, and possibly the head

Where do you find the flywheel on an 86 Chevy Cavalier?

The flywheel- or in your case- it is really called a "flex plate" is bolted to the crankshaft, and it is what is used to bolt the torque converter to the engine. The starter's ring gear is also welded to the flex plate. If in the rare instance you do have a manual transmission, then the flywheel is used to transmit power from the engine through the clutch/input shaft of the transmission. In either case, it is located between the engine and the transmission.

Why does a 92 Cavalier rs 2.2 have gas to the injector but not to the throttle body and you can smell gas in the oil?

If you can smell gas in your oil that is a bad thing. If you take off your oil cap and look at the inside of the cap if you see a greyish milky whitish color than you more than likely are on your way to a fully blown head gasket. When the head gasket seal starts going it leaks gas into the motor causing it to mix with your oil. After a short period of time your oil/gas mixture will cause and overload in friction inside the motor and this will "blow" out at the weakest point that being your already damaged head gasket.

How do you replace the belt tensioner?

This is not a easy job what engine do you have. You need the service manual without it it could be a impossible task.ps it a 3.8 engine

AnswerSupport the car with a jack stand and then support the engine with a jack under the oil pan (use a piece of soft lumber between the jack and the pan or you'll be removing the pan to fix it). Remove the passenger's front wheel. Remove the push pins holding the weather shield. Remove the shield. Remove the upper motor mount. Remove the belt. The belt tensioner is held in by two bolts. Raise the engine with jack carefully until you can get your hand in to remove the top tensioner bolt. Lower the motor with the jack very slowly until you can access the bottom bolt and remove it. The tensioner will come out through the fenderwell. Put the new one in the same way. Put the bottom bolt back, raise the engine, top bolt, level the engine, attach the belt, reinstall the motor mount, weathershield and wheel. If you forget the weathershield your belt might squeak when it rains. If this sounds like a pain in the neck, take it your local shop.

Make sure you look to see that the same fuse doesn't run anything vital like your tail lights or turn signals. if they aren't labeled u can look in youre owners manual or any chiltons guide on your car.
