Belt worn out, too loose, or the pulleys are out of alignment or bent. Another reason is you have bought the wrong kind or size belt for the application. The belt must match the pulleys or it will not stay on.

The generator

Connect a battery charger to the battery and let it fully charge. Do not charge it with the cars alternator. If it will not accept a charge the battery needs replacing. Connect positive (+) red cable to positive post and black negative (-) cable to negative post.

Trickle charge the battery do not fast charge it as the charge won't take. Sure it will start the car a few times but a good charge to a battery is one that is done slowly

The engine computer is also the voltage redulator.

About ten minutes if you've done it before. Not much to it. Disconnect the battery, remove the mounting bolts and wires. Installation is the reverse, except for tensioning the belt.

A bad belt, a bad regulator in the alternator or bad brushes in the alternator.

could be something wrong with the distributor. This happened to me a few months ago. My 2001 Honda prelude was only running off the battery for a day or so and I took it in to get the alternator replaced. They did that, but it still was only running off of the battery and my gauges weren't working. I took it back and they replaced the distributor and everything worked again.

Or the alternator could be loosely connected.

this is a guessing game with electrical ,i assume you've taken your alternator to get checked ,you could have a loose electrical wire or a blowen fuse also check your battery cables they may need cleaning , good luck.

just another way to bypass the regulator to see if the regulator is bad. I dont recommend doing this just in case you have bad wires it might pump the 13.9 volts directly into your system which might cause a electrical fire. Just check the voltage with a mulimeter and see if its pumping out volts. if it isnt.... replace.

yes, the right axle needs to come out, even then its still a tight fit... but the alternator fits out that hole with a little finness

The 2003 Hyundai Sonata was equipped with a VALEO alternator as the original equipment manufacture brand.

Pop the hood and look to see if you have any naked pulleys. If your belt is broken, you will probably lose more than your alternator. Modern cars have serpentine belts that run everything: power steering, water pump, air conditioning, etc.

The four main parts of a car's alternator are the regulator, rotor, stator, and diode bridge.

This is all the way over on the passenger side, its the top/frontmost thing touched by the drive belt, you need to remove the bolts holding it on and throw the new one in, and then put the drive belt back on, easier than you think

look for a tensioner pulley, if you don't know what it looks like. then go to the nearest auto motive store and buy the book on your car. there should be a diagram on how the belt goes around the other pulleys if it is just one big belt, if not then look on the alternator bracket there should be around three bolts that need to be loosened. be sure the belt is tight before you tighten the bolts,put some pressure on the altenator. Now.. not knowing what erratic is to you, but with personal experience, you very well could have a cracked head gasket, or you could need a new water pump, or your thermostat could be in need of replacement.

I recently replaced the alternator on my 99 Malibu. It is fairly easy. First loosen the belt using a 3/8 breaker bar on the belt tensioner. Using a 15mm socket, remove the bolt from the front and side plus a nut on the side/rear (use deep socket or wrench). Remove the single wire bolted to the back of the alternator and unplug the wire harness and the whole thing should be ready to remove. Installation is simply the reverse. With the right tools, it only takes 10-15 minutes.

Unfortunately this is a dirty job. You will need to raise the vehicle and support the front end as you will be working underneath for a portion of it.

You will need to pull the front right (passenger side) wheel. Than remove the 2 piece plastic inner fender pieces (mud guards). Be careful removing these as the locking tabs can break very easily.

Disconnect the battery.

From the right front where you removed the wheel and mud guards, you'll be looking at the bottom of the alternator which is directly under the power steering pump.

There is a plastic dirt shield over the back of the alternator, remove this. There are 2 bolts, one which is hard to find but working from the top down, rotate the power steering pump pulley so that it's on a hole and you can look through to the top bolt.

Remove the bolts holding it in place and lower down. Carefully remove the wires from the alternator, main battery wire (10mm?) and than a smaller one. Than you can pull the alternator out through the mud guard in the front right wheel well.

Reverse to install.

This job will take you roughly 45min - 1.5hrs.

You must loosen the nut on the tensioner pully the from under the car there is a tensioning bolt 12mm you will tighten it and it will pull the pully down then take the belt off, new one on, then loosen the tensioner bolt til the belts tight and tighten the bolt in the middle of the pully then your all done

Loosen the bolt that holds the alternator to the bracket. Tip the alternator toward the enginge. Place a new belt on, making sure you catch all of the pulleys. Pivot the alternator away from the engine to tighten the belt. When belt is tight, re-secure the bolt you loosened earlier.

If by over charges you mean that it produces to much current then you can fry sensitive electronics and blow fuses.

You have to remove the front passenger tire, then the axle drop the engine mount about an inch to remove it. I have Pictures but I cant upload them.

To make a dynamo, a small hobby motor is needed. The small hobby motor is then mounted on a board of wood and then connected to a bigger wheel. The handle is then fixed and the motor connected to a voltage regulator.

In salient pole alternator Xar is unequal in D-axis and Q-axis, due to non uniform air gap where as in non-salient pole Xar is equal in every axis due to uniform airgap between stator and rotor. Xar is armature reaction reactance.

About 350 bucks total( Labor plus parts) . Ford dealership here at Rochester NY. Actually you can do it by yourself. It takes around 20-30 minutes to replace it. It only cost around 100 bucks for a brand new Remy alternator.
