Alternators

To make a dynamo, a small hobby motor is needed. The small hobby motor is then mounted on a board of wood and then connected to a bigger wheel. The handle is then fixed and the motor connected to a voltage regulator.

In salient pole alternator Xar is unequal in D-axis and Q-axis, due to non uniform air gap where as in non-salient pole Xar is equal in every axis due to uniform airgap between stator and rotor. Xar is armature reaction reactance.

About 350 bucks total( Labor plus parts) . Ford dealership here at Rochester NY. Actually you can do it by yourself. It takes around 20-30 minutes to replace it. It only cost around 100 bucks for a brand new Remy alternator.

Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. Use a DC volt meter set to the 20 volt scale. You should have a reading of between 13.5 & 15.5 volts. If the reading is significantly higher or lower than this then you need to drive it to the nearest auto parts store and have it checked professionally to be sure. But more than likely the alternator has failed.

It is possible that the alternator caused damage to the PCM. Best to have diagnostics done on the car to see if and where the problems are.

Alternator require extensive work to be repaired. On a 2004 Hyundai it is best to replace a broken unit with a new part.

You need a voltmeter. A fully charged battery is 12.6 volts. With the engine running the voltage on the battery supplied by the alternator should be 13 to 14 volts. A few auto parts stores will do the check for you if the battery has enough charge to get you there.

While I never replaced the alternator on my 1993 Caravan that I used to have, I did begin attempting it, but it became more extensive than I wanted to get into at the time. Since then I have gotten rid of it and never completed the job. But I may be able to validate some of you issues that you may be having. While it looks very visible and easy to get to, I found that the only way I was going to be able to get to it was from underneath the car and only after taking off the exhaust from the manifold. It was just too large to get out any other way. As I said though I never completed the job. Hopefully someone else will have some better advice for you. I found that vehicle one of the hardest that I have ever owned to work on. GOOD LUCK.

It converts the mechanical energy of the rotating engine into electrical energy to charge the battery. It as also powers accessories.

The battery light stays on when the alternator is over or under charging. The red brake light stays on when the parking brake is set or the fluid is low. The abs light stays on when the abs computer detects a malfunction and sets a code.

If it is a gas golf cart it has an alternator and if it is electric you have no need for an alternator. An alternator would require more power to turn that it would return to the batteries. So, you would get less distance out of the cart with an alternator installed. That is why electric carts do not come equipped with an alternator.

They rotate the armature coil.

A diode is a semiconductor that passes current in one direction only. The stator of the alternator generates three phase AC in a delta configuration. The six diodes are connected in a full wave bridge configuration that converts the AC to DC. At any instant of time, only two diodes are conducting, one to ground, the other to the battery. As the alternator spins, each phase takes turns, and the diodes turn off and on in turn as well. The result is a DC voltage with relatively little ripple.

Take the car or even just the battery to your local auto parts store. They can test it and tell you what you need for zip as long as you purchase the parts to repair it from them.

for 4cylinder engines, the Alt. is located near the bottom of the engine on the passenger side..

for v6, it's located behind the front passenger side headlight.

You'll find an idler/tensioner pulley, which rides on an adjustable arm. First you have to loosen the locknut(14mm?) of the pulley , then tighten/loosen the adjuster rod (8mm?) to adjust the belt tension. Afterwards, tighten the locknut.

go to the store and get a new plug for your year of car cut the wires hook them up to the same color tape or shrink wrap exposed wire plug into alternator good to go

On the front of the engine.As you are looking at the front of the engine it will be on the upper left hand side, attached to the block and head.

It uses a spring loaded belt tensioner I believe. The tensioner is automatically set. IF there is not enough tension, then replace the tensioner. The belt may be stretched and need replacment however.

are you sure it's bad, what is the volts showing on your gauge? if you do not have a good charge on the battery it takes a long time to recharge. Autozone will check it for free and tell you what you need to know.

You will need to jack up passenger side and remove passenger front wheel. From above remove belt tension bolt. underneath remove bottom bolt, disconnect wiring. wiggle out from above.

loosen the bolt on the tension pulley. then insert a 3/8 ratchet in the square hole on the pulley that will loosen the belt

The engine computer is the voltage regulator. It is the large black box behind the battery.
