Remove the battery cable, remove right front tire, unbolt strut from hub assy, remove the cv axel and spline shaft, there will be 2 bolts on bottom and 1 bolt on top 14mm, after getting the alternator off there are 3 10 mm bolts on the mounting bracket remove the bolts and mounting bracket then remove the alternator through the gap between the frame and the engine. it takes about 3to 4 hrs to remove and install so have fun its a job

Typically, the alternator has three connections. One is the ground, which is provided by the bracket that you bolt the alternator to. Second is the main power terminal, and is connected with a bolt to a high power cable that goes directly to the battery. CAUTION: Make sure you disconnect battery ground before you put a wrench on the alternator stud, just in case you touch ground while turning the wrench. Third is a two or three pin connector that goes to the harness, providing regulator power and connection to the warning light. Some older alternators have an external regulator, and they will have a smaller bolted connection to the regulator. Its easy to see which is which, due to the terminal size.

test our your alt. by starting your car and removing pos+ive terminal if it still runs you still have a working alt. if the car dies then alt is bad and if alt is still working make sure batt. terminal are clean and tight. still no charge then you have a bad or weak batt.

If the alternator output is too high, there is something wrong with the regulator. Often, the regulator is part of the alternator. There could also be issues with wiring. It is necessary to test carefully, following the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Something is usually on that you don't know about like an alarm could be draining the battery. However, If its not starting you should check the starter though. It will make you think the battery is bone dead.

Disconnect the battery, and remove the electrical connection and remove the bolts, and reverse to install.

Start the car, unplug the battery the alternater should power the car. If it dies the alternator is bad. You can also get it checked at any parts store.

An Ammeter would directly indicate a currents amperes. Simply attach it into the circuit you wish to measure and it will tell you.

Easiest thing is to take the car to one of the auto parts stores or repair shops that offer free testing. I just did this with my Windstar the other day, and Autozone ran a pretty comprehensive test on the alternator and battery (found a weak battery cell).

An alternator is controlled by a voltage regulator. The regulator can be part of the alt., the computer, or a stand alone unit. The regulator controls the amount of current in the field windings which then controls the voltage output.

1. Pull up on the grey lever to fold down the back rest of the back seat.

2. Pull up on the red lever and move the folded seat up and at the same time pull it out of the hinges.

It would help to know the year, make, model, and engine size as most cars take different routes to remove and replace

( r & r) an alternator. First, you need to know if the bolts and nuts are standard or metric so as to supply yourself with the proper tools. Even before that you can take the car to Wal-Mart or other light repair shops in your area to have the battery and alternator diagnosed before you start the r&r of the alternator. Even some auto parts stores will test the charging system for free. That is the very first place one would start, unless you know as a fact the alternator is bad. After the tools, you must remove either the negative battery cable or the positive battery cable. That is why the year, etc. of the vehicle is important. Then remove all the wires attached to the alternator. One should be a plug in and the other will have a nut attaching other wires to it. Next, the alternator belt has to come off. This is either a single, specific belt or a serpentine belt that attaches all the vehicles accessories. If it is the serpentine type you only have to loosen the belt just enough to slip the belt off the alternator pully. There is a large nut which is on a idler pully. This is what keeps the serpentine belt tight. The idler pully is a spring loaded pully that is smooth with no teeth. It is slick and chrome looking. It is mostly found at the top of the serpentine belt assembly in just about every vehicle. Then you will loosen the two or three bolts/nuts holding the alternator to the mounting bracket. Replace the old alternator with the new one and reverse the sequence of events. I would still like to know the 411 I asked in the first sentence. That way I could do a better job of guiding you through this process. Also, buy some gloves, the kind doctors wear. It will really save your hands. Believe me, I know. depends if you return the core or not. $80-$180. You will receive some money back if you return the used one when you replace $20-$70 depending on where you go and what type you buy.

First is the battery good? Next, when the bike is running did you check the volts with a volt meter? Need above 14 volts at 2000 rpm. At idle you will have about 12.4 or a little more. So, check the battery. If the battery is good, and all the cnx. are good, then possible stator problems.

If you can't see it easily(i own one), then you arent qualified to replace it. Very easily spotted if you know what one is. If you can't identify it, you can change it. Find a professional.It on right front below PS pump pulley back a few inches.

That's completely normal, should only happen at start up and for a few minutes after though. Just your grid heater cycling

Yes, most have to turn clockwise, looking at the pulley end. There a few Honda's that turn counter-clockwise that I know of.
