Was Hernando Cortes a liberator or oppressor?
Most websites that i've looked at don't give a lot of good information on this subject. However, there are two ways we can look at it. We can call Hernando Cortez a conqueror because he brought down the Aztec empire, which ultimately was an end to a culture. The other way we can look at him is like this: Hernando Cortez was not out to seek wealth, fame, and glory. Cortez' mission was to bring Christianity and claim this new land in the name of Spain. Let's look at the Aztec culture itself. Human sacrifices were almost too common to the Aztec. They captured warriors from other tribes and would sacrifice them to their gods. They would claim that the universe would be unbalanced if the sacrifices didn't take place. This culture practiced cannibalism, they tortured, ect. Pretty gruesome to say the least. So i view Hernando Cortez a liberator, because he brought down such an evil empire, brought Christianity, and "liberated" oppressed tribes.

The Israelite city of Jericho was built with two human sacrifices. Hiel made a sacrifice to God of his oldest son for the foundation of the city and of his youngest son for the gates to the city.
1 Kings 16:34: "In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun."
Other human sacrifices performed in Judah are reported, for example, in the time of King Ahaz (8th century BCE; 2 Kings 16:3) and King Manasseh (7th century BCE; 2 Kings 21:6).

The legend says that the Aztecs were a tribe that came from the northern part of Mexico (Aztlan). One of their gods (Huitzilopochtli) told them that they should build a city in the place where they found an eagle eating a snake, on top of a cactus. The Aztecs found this sign in the Lake of Texcoco. Therefore, they built their city on the top of the lake. Nowadays, Mexico City.
