Where did the 345 infrantry fight?

The 345th Infantry was one of the three infantry regiments in the US 87th Infantry Division. The Division landed in France December 1-3, 1944 and moved to Metz, where, on the 8th, it went into action against and took Fort Driant. The Division then shifted to the vicinity of Gross Rederching near the SaarGerman border on the 10th of December and captured Rimling, Obergailbach, and Guiderkirch in short order. The 87th was moving into Germany when Von Rundstedt launched his offensive in the Ardennes. The Division was placed in SHAEF reserve, 24-28 December, then thrown into the Bulge battle in Belgium, 29 December. In a fluctuating battle, it captured Moircy on the 30th and Remagne on the 31st. On 2 January 1945, it took Germont, on the 10th Tillet, and reached the Ourthe by the 13th. On 15 January 1945, the Division moved to Luxembourg to relieve the 4th Division along the Sauer and seized Wasserbillig on the 23d. The 87th moved to the vicinity of St. Vith, 28 January, and attacked and captured Schlierbach, Selz, and Hogden by the end of the month. After the fall of Neuendorf, 9 February, the Division went on the defensive until the 26th, when Ormont and Hallschlag were taken in night attacks. The 87th crossed the Kyll River, 6 March, took Dollendorf on the 8th, and after a brief rest, returned to combat, 13 March 1945, crossing the Moselle on the 16th and clearing Koblenz, 18-19 March. The Division crossed the Rhine, 25-26 March, despite strong opposition, consolidated its bridgehead, and secured Grossenlinden and Langgons. On 7 April, it jumped off in an attack which carried it through Thuringia into Saxony. Plauen fell, 17 April, and the Division took up defensive positions, 20 April May, about 4 miles from the Czech border. On 6 May 1945, it took Falkenstein and maintained its positions until VE-day.

The Division received credit for three campaigns - the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe.

The full name of the 345 Infantry is "345th Infantry Regiment". But when a soldier spoke of his regiment, he would say "I'm in the 345th Infantry". If he meant to refer to his division, he would say "I'm in the 87th Infantry Division". There were 3 infantry regiments in a US infantry Division during WW2.

The 87th Infantry Division was in the US Third Army for most of the campaigns in France, except for a brief time in the US 7th Army, and the last few weeks, when it was in the US First Army.

Do disc bulge go away?

This is caused by age and loss of bone thickness. Think of making 's'mores. The marshmallow is pushed out by the two crackers. Pain meds will help but over time things will get worse.

What was Germany's course of action in the battle of bulge?

Germany's course of action in the Battle of the Bulge was a more defensive one for them than their usual offensive attacks. Belgium was the last territory that Germany controlled before it would have to retreat to withing the Fatherland (Germany). The German commanders knew that if they could not win the Bulge, then the defeat of Germany would be soon to follow. Though Germany had a slight advantage, being that they were more hidden in the forests than the Americans were and that they had more experience with the cold weather than the Americans did, they did not fortify their positions well enough to where they could hold off a full-frontal assault for more than a few months.

Why did the battle of Chalmette Plantation take place in the location?

Many plantations below New Orleans had drainage canals, running east-west, to keep their land dry. Generally emptying into Lake Ponchartrain. When the British entered the Lake Jackson ordered all these canals blocked. The owner of Chalmette ignored this order, and the British found his unobstructed canal and used their ships' boats to travel through the swamp to the east bank of the Mississippi just below Chalmette house. They went into camp as their full force was ferried through to the River, and Jackson moved his force down and built barricades to stop them heading north into New Orelans.

Can you identify 29th Infantry Regiment during World War 2?

When the United States entered World War II, the 29th Infantry moved to Iceland, where it defended the rocky coastline until shipped to England in preparation for the invasion of Europe. In December, 1944 the Regiment deployed to France where it provided security to the "Red Ball Express", the supply route which kept the armored thrust rolling into Germany. During the "Battle of the Bulge", the Regiment secured and defended river crossings along the Meuse River in the vacinity of Namur and Liege, Belgium. The Regiment saw heavy combat near Jemelle and Rochefore, Belgium and was then deactivated in October, 1946. The 29th was not attached to a division instead it had assignments requiring only the manpower size of a regiment rather than a division.

Is there a list of the names of everyone who fought in the Battle of Hastings?

No. In those days only aristocrats had family names. Most people were just known by one given name. Please also remember that soldiers didn't have a metal disc or any like that to identify them.

There is a list of Normans at the Battle. It is almost certainly accurate but it seems, to me, unlikely to be exhaustive. :

Normans at the Battle of Hastings

This list was copied from a posting on the Usenet newsgroup soc.history.medieval by William Addams Reitwiesner. He explained the derivation of the list:

The list of persons actually known to have been at the Battle of Hastings on the side of William the Conqueror is printed in the second edition of Cokayne's Complete Peerage, vol XII, Part I, Appendix pp. 47-48, as part of Appendix L. Numbers 1-12 are recorded by William of Poitiers, number 13 is portrayed in a battle scene in the Bayeux Tapestry, and 14 and 15 are named by Orderic. 16-19 were in William's army and almost certainly at the battle (16 named by William of Poitiers, 17-19 portrayed in the Bayeux Tapestry), but there is no direct statement that they actually were at the Battle of Hastings. Number 20 is stated by Orderic to have taken part in fights in the English war before William became King.

Here's the list as it was posted:

01. Robert de Beaumont, afterwards Count of Meulan and Earl of Leicester

02. Eustace, Count of Boulogne

03. William, afterwards 3rd Count of Evreux

04. Geoffrey of Mortagne, afterwards Count of Perche

What is a well-maintained Browning 16 gauge serial OKG844 made in Belgium worth.?

Serial number should actually read 0K6844, with that first character being a zero. Indicates a standard-weight 16ga shotgun built in 1960. Please note this is not a 'Sweet Sixteen,' that was a very specific model and differs from the standard weight gun. Factory such as vent rib or solid rib (or plain barrel), how the gun is choked, and what percentage of bluing remains are huge value factors. Guns are typically graded on percentage of original blue remaining. 98% is a gun with virtually no wear, deep dark bluing with no scratches. Your gun in 98% would bring $500-$1000 depending on the buyer. Your gun in 80%, which might be 'well-maintained' but the bluing has faded to gray in areas, would only bring $400-$500 or so. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Yes. Typically the thinner you are the faster you will begin to show in pregnancy (Sometimes as soon as 7-8 weeks!). This is because there is less fat covering the stomach region and your "baby bump" is more noticeable!

What were the effects of the Battle of Atlanta?

The Battle of Atlanta signed the unstoppable decline of the Confederate military power in the West. The seize of the city and its destruction deprived the Southerners of the most important strategic point in that sector and opened the gate to the deep Union penetration developed in November 1864 by Sherman's Army, by the start of "the March to the Sea", the decisive factor which sped up the collapse of the Confederacy.
