Do you use the same dot 4 brake fluid for a bike as you do for a car?
The manufacturer should specify the type of fluid that should be used. If it says DOT 4, then yes it's the same DOT 4. I don't think bikes generally use DOT 4, though: it's too moisture-sensitive.

Does water effect brake fluid?
Break fluid has the ability to absorb certain amounts of water.
You do need to change it after a year or two due to electrolysis. It will eat away the metals in your breaking system and cause further damage
What happens if you put brake fluid in the power steering system?
Bad juju. Don't do it. If you've already done it, you'll probably have to have the power steering system flushed; brake fluid has significantly different characteristics from power steering fluid.
Agree with above. It's pretty caustic, flush and get it out of there before you have problems.
You top off brake fluid when the brakes are changed. If the brake fluid is low there is a reason. Get them checked out at that time. Most auto technicians will not top off brake fluid for this reason. The fluid lasts as long as the breaks.
Can you add brake fluid to a half full fluid reservoir?
Yes. But it is really important to find out WHY the reservoir is only half-full!
Brake fluid doesn't evaporate as fast as water and anyway, if the reservoir cap was fully tight - so it couldn't spill out - it won't just evaporate away so there must a leak somewhere in one or more of your brake pipes or brake cylinders.
If you don't get it fixed, every time you press the brake pedal some brake fluid will be forced out through a hole in the brake pipe or out past the seals in one of your brake cylinders (or wherever the leak is) and you could suddenly run out of brake fluid and your brakes won't work any more. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION!
So by all means top it up with more of the right brake fluid - you must find out which type is right for your braking sytem - but also be sure to take your vehicle to a repair workshop to ask them to look for the leak.
Brake inspections are usually done free of charge, so go and have one done today.
Getting an inspection and any necessary brake repairs done could save your life and/or someone else's life if you were to suddenly find you can't stop because your brakes have stopped working!
What happens if you put power steering fluid where the transmission fluid goes in a Chrysler 300?
Similar products should not be a problem
Can brake fluid supplement power steering fluid in an emergency?
No, they are not compatible and it will cause damage.
Can you use transmission fluid as brake fluid?
This question has appeared here before, and the answer is still no!
Transmission fluid and brake fluid are two differentfluids. One of them (tranny fluid) works as a hydraulic agent like brake fluid, but also works as a coolant and lubricant, and it helps your transmission to grip the bands to transfer power. If it is low, the transmission will slip.
Brake fluid is basically just a hydraulic fluid (though it does lubricate a bit), and it pushes caliper pistons which move brake pads against the brake rotor or brake bands which move against the inside of the brake drum. Brake fluid eats paint for breakfast, so you don't want that on the finish of your car. Keep reading 'cause there's more.
Note: The real issue here is what the fluid does to the seals in the transmission or the brake system. These seals are specially formulated rubber, and the wrong fluid in them will work for a short while, but will permanently damage those seals. At that point, they will leak and all the seals in the system will have to be replaced and the system flushed and filled with the correct fluid. (If it's a transmission, you'll have to replace the bands and a few other parts as well as the seals. The bands are somewhat porous and absorb fluid.) It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the issue here. Be smart. Consult a car expert or even a competent parts supplier for the correct fluid for your brake system or transmission.
PS: M-Eight
Totally true my friend if put brake fluid in tranny simple way to say it is all seals will get eaten up by the toxics in brake fluid and tranny will leak like crazy, but he is asking about tranny fluid in brakes which will cause leaks like mad because of tranny fluid is alot thiner then brake fluid.
Dont do it kids ! LOL
Why would front brakes lock up?
Your brake calipers have pistons that can after years of driving and not properly flushing the brake system become frozen. You may also want to replace the brake hoses at the same time as they can sometimes produce locked brakes as well.
IN the master cylinder.
drivers side against the fire wall you'll see a big round thing with a retanglular tank bolted to it, the round thing is your power brake booster, the retangular tank on the front is you matser cylinder, which holds the brake fluide, just remove the top to add fluide, there should be a visable line on the side to show you where the level should be, easyest way to find it is open your hood stand near the hood hinge on driver side and you can't miss it, harry
How do you add brake fluid to a 1990 Toyota Camry CSI Twin cam?
You add it to the master cylinder mounted on the firewall, drivers side. Do not overfill, and only add fluid from a sealed container. Use the proper fluid as listed on the master cylinder cap. If it is low of fluid it means that you either have a leak or the brake pads have worn down, and they should be checked. You may need to have your pads replaced. Fluid does not evaporate and those are the only reasons it will be low. This car is 16 years old, and if you have not had the fluid changed it is way over due. Have the entire brake system flushed and fresh fluid installed. Brake fluid should be changed at least every 3/36. This is an often overlooked service.
Why are brake lines in cars filled with an oily liquid?
That is brake fluid. The brake system uses hydraulics to apply the brakes.
they are bled to remove air out of your brake system. bleeding prevents you from having mushy brakes or your pedal going to the floor. it also makes the pedal tight and more sensitive to your feet.
DOT 4 fluids have borate esters added which raise the temperature of the boiling point for better performance under extreme racing conditions.
Why is it advisable to change brake fluid?
Over time brake fluid absorbs moisture. The more moisture in it the more likely it is to freeze if you are in cold weather, and the more the seals break down.
