To put brake fluid in a 1997 Ford Explorer, you must locate the brake fluid reservoir. Once you locate it, unscrew the cap, and replenish the brake fluid.

The reservoir with the lesser fluid capacity is for the rear brakes since the front calipar pistons require more fluid therefore they require the larger of the two.

Look at the master cylinder on the driver's side next to the firewall. Only add fluid if it is at the add or low mark. Only add the exact fluid as listed on the cap. If it is low, you either have a leak or your brake pads are worn.

You will probably slam in the back of some old lady stoped at a red light. It is caused by a vacume failure, a rebuild kit is available I will try to find a link for one.

The brake fluid reservoir is usually located in the engine compartment next to the firewall close to the steering column. Remove the cover from the reservoir and fill to the proper level with your vehicle's recommended fluid type. If the brake pedal feels spongy or goes all the way down to the floorboard, you may need to bleed the brake lines.

Change the brake pads. I have had good luck with PBR Deluxe and PBR Metalmaster. They are quieter and dust a lot less.

Open the bleeder valve on the 1990 F150 wheel that needs a line replaced. When the fluid stops flowing, loosen the line connections and remove the line. Install the new line, and bleed the brake lines after the reservoir has been refilled.

Tractor hydraulic fluid is usually an ISO 68, dextron III is equivalent to a 56 so it is probably too thin.

Tire repair can be done easily at any bike store. Take the bike to the retail store and often they will fix the tire free when buying the repair kit, you also can repair it yourself on the premises with the aide of the store employee instructing you so that in the future you can do so easily.

In my 1965 Corvair, it is in the Front Hood (Cargo trunk), on the driver side by the windshield.

According to the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer Owner Guide :

( DOT 3 brake fluid , meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A )

It gets added to the master cylinder located drivers side of the firewall

The only other thing I can think of is a problem with the master cylinder. Something inside that isn't holding the pressure as it should.

More than likely DOT3. Look on the top of the master cylinder fill cap. It is listed there.

no, brake fluid is not the same as power steering fluid, make sure you actually get the right stuff. and double check what type of brake fluid you have (dot 3/ dot 5) because there is a difference there too

You may have to change the sensor, it's a $9.00 part at autozone.

Brake fluid added must meet SAE recommendation J 1703 and conform to Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 116. Brake fluid should be changed every two years.

You check the brake fluid LEVEL in the brake fluid reservoir in the engine

compartment . It is on the drivers side of the vehicle , near the firewall

( that's the metal wall that divides the engine compartment from the passenger compartment )

It is a plastic reservoir that allows you to check the brake fluid level just by

looking ( you only need to remove the cap if the brake fluid level is not up to

the full mark and you are going to add the DOT 3 brake fluid that is required

DOT 3 or DOT 4. DOT 3 is standard for Japanese cars; DOT 4 has higher boiling point but stops the car the same way as DOT 3, so it's a better fluid.

You need to get the trans fluid changed immediatley

yes,,,, all brake fluid is synthetic. EXCEPT Dot 5 which you CANNOT mix only because it is silicone based.
